Fox in a Box Posted 6 June 2005 Posted 6 June 2005 Getting rid of SAV to brum?.... Buying Zel Kalac? or bringing back Tony Cottee from the far east.....or even signing Lee Marshall Theres just 3, but what happens to be the best bit of business youve seen in your lifetime. Personally it was letting Fatty Mark Magee go to Wolves, opening the door to MON. so whats yours??
Cobbo Posted 6 June 2005 Posted 6 June 2005 Why was getting rid of Sav good business? We didn't exactly get an amazing transfer fee. I don't like the guy, but Bassett signing Dickov for tuppence was a helluva deal. Cottee goes without saying, cracking signing that. Getting Phil Gee and Sticks in for Kitson has to be right up there too
Katy Posted 6 June 2005 Posted 6 June 2005 Taking a chance on Muzzy and Lenny was a shrewd bit of business I reckon.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 6 June 2005 Posted 6 June 2005 Playing-wise, Neil Lennon. I don't think any of our achievements under MON would have been possible without him. Just look at what we've been like ever since he left. Brilliant player.
Cobbo Posted 6 June 2005 Posted 6 June 2005 £11m for Heskey 119676 Which we spent very wisely.
Ric Flair Posted 6 June 2005 Posted 6 June 2005 Claridge. If it wasn't for him, you can forget the so called glory years at this club. No premiership football, no silverware, no europe, O'Neill probably would have walked after another season in division one. Super Stevie Claridge.
City Fan Posted 6 June 2005 Posted 6 June 2005 Transfer fee for Matty Piper was a good bit of business!! Signing Stephen Hughes for peanuts as well.........

Fox in a Box Posted 6 June 2005 Author Posted 6 June 2005 Transfer wise, getting £1,750,000 for Steve Corica after about 10 games did it for me. He cost (if I can remember rightly) £150,000 thats 1000% profit and we used it to buy Muzzy and lenny.
Scarby Posted 6 June 2005 Posted 6 June 2005 After weeks of talks getting collymore for next to nothing
Durnerz Posted 6 June 2005 Posted 6 June 2005 The O'Neill signings for peanuts for me, Izzet, Guppy and Lennon.
Newcastle_Fox Posted 6 June 2005 Posted 6 June 2005 The most shrewd bit of business was signing O'Neill add with his talents of finding the correct players and motivating them well. Brought us a good few seasons which we will struggle to reproduce for a long time!
TornadoShaunUK Posted 6 June 2005 Posted 6 June 2005 Selling Heskey for £11m to Liverpool has got to be up there... he was good for us.. but has been nowhere near as good ever since..
Louise Posted 6 June 2005 Posted 6 June 2005 matty elliott for peanuts a great servent for city 119767 £1.6 million?
Jimmy Posted 6 June 2005 Posted 6 June 2005 compared to what most centre backs of his quality would have cost at the time, yes
Wellman Posted 6 June 2005 Posted 6 June 2005 Getting Izzet, Lennon and Savage! Oh those were the days :(
Nationwider Posted 6 June 2005 Posted 6 June 2005 Alan Smith from Alvechurch for about 7p. O'Neill taking a risk and going for Matt Elliott when plenty of sides had turned their noses up at him. O'Neill again for persuading the board to part with £650,000 on Izzet - someone who'd never even played a first team game before.
Jimmy Posted 6 June 2005 Posted 6 June 2005 O'Neill getting muz on loan to start with so the board knew that spending only £650,000 on him would be a steal

Also sacking Peter Taylor, we could have been in an even worse position if we let him sign more players to keep us up or get us back up
Ultra Posted 6 June 2005 Posted 6 June 2005 O'Neill bringing in Gerry Taggart on a free has to be right up there!
stez Posted 7 June 2005 Posted 7 June 2005 one of the best was bringing in brian little. after years of pleats' diabolical football. little came in and on a budget far smaller than o'neill ever had he eventually got us up (then cleared of ) but that promotion started the increase in finance that mcgee and then more importantly o'neill enjoyed
