Parafox Posted 12 April 2011 Posted 12 April 2011 Just wondering how many Foxes talkers believe in a God, of any culture or type. How many footballers practice a religion. I guess a good many from South America or Eastern Europe are Catholics. Personally I don't have a religious belief. I think that humans can be kind, thoughtful, genourous of spirit, and all the things religion teaches, without belonging to any Faith. Do you think that religion can cause problems for humanity? I posted on another thread that if you believe in God (the Christian one) you're in a win-win situation. If something bad happens it's said to be God's way of testing you. If it is resolved then God has helped whatever problem or difficulty was being experienced. If something good happens to you then it's God's way of rewarding your faith. The terrible things in the world are God testing the faith of humanity, (so my Baptist friend tells me).

Finnegan Posted 12 April 2011 Posted 12 April 2011 Is there a problem I haven't anticipated? They're just anticipating El Empty and NSLL's arrivals and the descending mass of trolls.
MikeyT Posted 12 April 2011 Posted 12 April 2011 We all have our own beliefs. I have no problem with anyone believing in anything. Just don't like people shoving their beliefs down my throat. At the end of the day you can't prove God exists and i can't prove he/she/it doesn't.
Parafox Posted 12 April 2011 Author Posted 12 April 2011 They're just anticipating El Empty and NSLL's arrivals and the descending mass of trolls. I've just checked the meaning of "troll" as i am not au- fait with them in internet terms. Can I say here and now, that I am NOT one ! !
Trav Le Bleu Posted 12 April 2011 Posted 12 April 2011 I am religious myself, but am all too aware that internet forums are not the kind of place for these discusions. I think it's a case of too many people have too many different ideas (even more so than politics or who should be in the team) that it descends into a mass brawl. We're all cowering under the covers cos this has been dug over before. If you think that religion is the major cause of war on this planet, you ain't seen nothing yet!

Interestingly we have regular visits in our area from Jehova's Witnesses and I notice they have started to use younger (slightly) attractive women. Have they cottoned on to the potential selling points of the female flesh used so abundantly by TV advertisers?

I am pretty new to all this message board discussion stuff. I thought pretty much any legal topic was ok for use... I'd better apologise in advance SORRYYYYY
BoneDog Posted 12 April 2011 Posted 12 April 2011 It's kick off in 10 minutes, I need to concentrate on match commentary but will hopefully reappear at 10pm to tell you why you are all going to Hell for fornication and sodomy. You sinful apes. No offence. There's still hope for Wymsey and Narborough Fox but the rest of us are going DOWNNNNNNNNNNNN!!
Trav Le Bleu Posted 12 April 2011 Posted 12 April 2011 No need to apologise. Was just stating an opinion... but in many ways that's the problem with threads like these. People don't realise that whatever is said is merely an opinion. Of course, my opinion is always right. Guest Bilo Posted 12 April 2011 Posted 12 April 2011 We all have our own beliefs. I have no problem with anyone believing in anything. Just don't like people shoving their beliefs down my throat. At the end of the day you can't prove God exists and i can't prove he/she/it doesn't. It's impossible to prove a universal negative. For example, most adults wouldn't say Santa Claus exists, but where is the evidence that he doesn't? We just take an educated guess based on available evidence that it would be impossible for one man to do what ancient myth tells us he can, but we can never be 100% per cent because as I say, we can only prove that something does exist, not that it doesn't. We can do this with the small things but not the wider ones. We could for example say there are no aliens in a person's house, but we cannot extend that to the universe because we don't have the capability to scour the universe looking for them as we do in a house. In the case of a deity for example, we could look and find evidence of a 'miracle' that points to the existence of a God, we could say that the human body is too complicated to be made via naturally occurring evolution but if we spent the rest of time trying to prove that God doesn't exist and found no evidence of his existence, we would not find proof that he doesn't exist, merely a lack of evidence that he does. It's all very complicated and I give this thread 36 hours before being closed.

Guest Bilo Posted 12 April 2011 Posted 12 April 2011 The last one I definitely remember was the Israel one during the Gaza War.
