Joe. Posted 17 April 2011 Posted 17 April 2011 Fair play to you sir. I'd written him off like almost everybody else a long time ago, but I think he might finally have found his niche as a defensive midfielder. He's not good enough to spray passes around and be a box to box engine man anymore, which is exactly what he tried to do far too often last season. I make that three good performances in a row now, and two man of the match ones from our point of view from those. Keep it up, it's good to see.
MikeyT Posted 17 April 2011 Posted 17 April 2011 Oh thank God, i thought it was going to be another hate thread about him. Agree with you entirely Joe.
Kitchandro Posted 17 April 2011 Posted 17 April 2011 He's had a couple of good games. That does not make him the answer to our holding midfield problem.
Leicester_Loyal Posted 17 April 2011 Posted 17 April 2011 Hes been probably our best player recently, along with Vitor.
MikeyT Posted 17 April 2011 Posted 17 April 2011 He's had a couple of good games. That does not make him the answer to our holding midfield problem. With respect to Joe, he hasn't said that.
Kenners Posted 17 April 2011 Posted 17 April 2011 Totally agree. Can also communicate between the midfield and defense more because of his position, something that Abe obviously can't and brings that experienced head. Like you say I think he tried to hard to earn his place when Sven came but he is coming into his own now. I hope he keeps it up and keeps the boo boys at bay.

No! dont get carried-away... he's been good for three matches and was motm against Palace, so fair play to him.... BUT Oakley is not the future of the midfield of this club... tskkkkkkkkkkkkkkk please give this forum some consistency of opinion - wasn't it only a couple or three months back that the majority wanted Oakley to bugger off? or did I imagine this? He's had a couple of good games. That does not make him the answer to our holding midfield problem. thank god for some reality

All that goes to show is that the majority on here don't know what they're on about half the time.
Joe. Posted 17 April 2011 Author Posted 17 April 2011 Oh dear, I thought it might end like this. Not for one minute am I suggesting he is the future of this club. That would be ridiculous. I was merely stating that the guy deserves a bit of credit for his performances of late, and that he's been pretty useful in that position for a while now.
Corky Posted 17 April 2011 Posted 17 April 2011 We know he isn't the future of the club, but he's shown in the last week that he can step in when required and do a solid job, as Joe said. He gets plenty of stick when he doesn't play well (correctly) so it's good to see some praise when he's performed okay.
ajthefox Posted 17 April 2011 Posted 17 April 2011 I've not seen him in any of the last few games but generally I think he's done ok. It's not a glamour role and some people, as was the case with Abe early on don't really give him the credit he deserves.
Halfsy Posted 17 April 2011 Posted 17 April 2011 Likewise, i completely agree with you, Joe. I have been very vocal, and have also commented on here about Matt Oakley's recent insipid displays. But i hold my hands up, and Joe will vouch for this as we stood together yesterday, i have also applauded him when he has done well. Hopefully he can continue to play in this current vein of form next season, though i do think it is no coincidence that our poor run can be possibly attibuted to the fact that Yuki Abe has barely featured. That, and Chris Weale and the back-four, excluding Kyle Naughton, aren't good enough if Sven wants to play free-flowing, passing football.

Sorry Joe, I misunderstood..yes mate Oakley's played very well recently
lestajigs Posted 17 April 2011 Posted 17 April 2011 Sorry but still wouldnt play him against forest on Friday
Haydos Posted 17 April 2011 Posted 17 April 2011 Fair play to the bloke, glad he's proved a few doubters he's still got his worth. By no means the answer next season but credit where credit's due.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 17 April 2011 Posted 17 April 2011 He seems to have been given a role which suits him. He doesnt have the legs so cant keep the ball and run with it, whilst he now doesnt give it away as much. He is almost like a sweeper, but just not in the actual position. Everytime there is an attack in the oppositions favour he is there along with the central defenders, clearing up the mess. And he has saved a couple of goals with his goal line clearances too.

I'm one of his biggest critics but have got to say he has been playing well. Plenty of idiots on here these days will no doubt suggest otherwise.
iBleedLeicesterColours Posted 17 April 2011 Posted 17 April 2011 I've always been a fan of Oakley. Like his style of play. There is no doubt in my mind he is a good player, not everyone has 300 odd PL games under their belt. Been a great servant to the club over the years and was instrumental in our League One campaign. Starting to play well again recently, long may it continue!
