Where would we have been with Pearson?

Life has moved on, for reasons that I understand (football as a millionaire's bauble, Milan's desire to sell, the Thais' desire for a big name).

I'm looking to the future, hopeful that Sven will lead us to glory next season - and, frankly, relieved that this chaotic season won't be ending with the further chaos of premature promotion (and probably instant re-relegation).

However, flame me as you will, but I can't help wondering what the "alternative future" would have been if the Thais had opted to keep Pearson in post and give him a bit of money to build a squad.

We'll never know, of course, but I reckon we'd have definitely made the play-offs and had a better than 50% chance of promotion....all speculation, of course, but he made the play-offs last time - and isn't far off this time, despite having had to reconstruct a relegated and dysfunctional Hull squad...

I'll be interested to follow Pearson's career. It seems to me that he's at least a bottom-half-of-the-Premier manager in ability...possibly higher. Would be interested to see him with money to spend

Not sure where we would be. We probably wouldn't have players like Naughton and Vitor, but Pearson's/Steve Walshs' contacts/scouting network was good as well - look at players like Jay Spearing, James Vaughan and Mark Davies who all joined when Nigel Pearson and his background staff was here.

Pearson's football was horrible and not nice to watch at times, but at the end of the day we did grind out results, and get the win or draw. Its pratically impossible to say where we would have been.

Nigel Pearson was building a good squad, the defence didn't concede many (obviously Pearson was a defender himself) and we did pick up results. I might not like his character at times, but look at where he took us, and look where Hull City are sitting right now.

I think we'd have missed out on the play-offs like we did this year, it was going to be very difficult to be a successfull again this year, we would have ground out points away from home, won some games at home, played less exciting football and had a much more consistant and less frustrating season than this. I'm more optomistic about next season than I think I would have been if Pearson was manager, it's a pointless debate really though.

Being only 17 I missed the majority of O'Neils time mainly because I didn't care that much (how stupied of me) but under Pearson it looked like fans my age would have their own stories of success to tell in stead of wishing we had been born a few years earily, don't get me wrong I know he left and there is nothing that can change that but at least another season with money and Pearson manage we easily would have reached the top 6

I think we'd have improved on where we finished last season, I dunno whether we'd have been promoted but we'd have been up there, the only way Pearson was ever gonna stay, was if Mandaric sold the Club before Hull came in for him, people might not think it, but when Pearson failed to get us promoted, Mandaric wanted rid of him, if Hull had never came in for him, Mandaric would've paid him off.

Sorry to the poster of this thread but the question could be asked about Nigel Worthington, Ginger Mourinho etc. Therefor the question of whether we would be someplace - be it different to where we are - with Nigel Pearson is a redundant one. Why bother even speculating?

Hull got thrashed 2- 4 by an extremely under-performing 'Boro today. Hobbs & Fryatt played in this game.

So basically in summary, it's not so greener on the other side of the Humber. Why bother trying to guess what is totally irrelevant.

Whilst they are not completely out of the playoff race like ourselves it seems Pearson can't always make a silk purse etc.
