davieG Posted 30 April 2011 Posted 30 April 2011 Merc - http://www.thebluear...l/article.html? Portuguese defender Miguel Vitor wants to stay at Leicester City, manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has revealed.Eriksson said he is trying to secure the services of all six of his current loan signings for next season's promotion push. Vitor, who was brought to the club by previous manager Paulo Sousa, has pledged his commitment if parent club Benfica allow him to stay in English football. "I don't know if Benfica want to take him back but Rui Costa (Benfica director of football) is one of my contacts in my phone to call," said Eriksson. "But I know Miguel wants to stay if Benfica don't take him back. What he said, which was very nice, was that the biggest surprise was how good the football was for a second division. He said it was fantastic. "The qualities of the teams are very high and it is very competitive. It is good. "Vitor (inset) has learned a lot this season and has really enjoyed himself." Ben Mee and Jeff Bruma have also expressed their desire to stay at the Walkers Stadium for an extended period, if Manchester City and Chelsea respectively agree, and Eriksson said the loan players had fitted in well. He will also try to secure the services of Yakubu, Patrick van Aanholt and Diomansy Kamara, but changes to the loan laws may prove a problem. It is expected that the number of loan players allowed in the 18-man squad will be cut from five to four. "I think the loan lads have enjoyed it and they have been good to us," he said. "Maybe some of them have a lack of experience and some mistakes come from that. But that is not their fault, it is more my fault. "I am sure they have liked it here and I am sure they have learned a lot. "It has been good experience for them because many of them have no experience of league football. "It has not really been difficult to integrate the loans because they are clever guys and good players. They have a good mentality." Eriksson added: "There has been no case of them coming in and being snobbish. "They don't feel they are above the others. They are good people. That is very important. "I think a decision will be taken in the middle of June and the rules might change so we will only be allowed to have four in our 18-man squad, and we will have to have that in mind."

Ben Mee still keen to impress Leicester City boss SvenSaturday, April 30, 2011, 09:30Comment on this story
There may not be a lot riding on today's fixture at the Keepmoat Stadium for Leicester City in terms of promotion, but for players keen to show manager Sven-Goran Eriksson they should be part of his plans for next season it is vital, says defender Ben Mee. Mee is keen on a return to City next season when his loan from Manchester City expires because he is keen to continue his football education under Eriksson, and he said several of the other loan players feel the same. Also, Doncaster Rovers are trying to secure the vital point which will ensure their Championship survival, so Mee is expecting a tough encounter. "Doncaster are still down there scrapping and they are not quite safe," said Mee. "There is still something riding on it so we can't treat it like a friendly. "I know I want to impress the manager and a few of the lads want to stay here, and it is important for the lads who are here. "I am not going to be taking it lightly, that's for sure." Mee said he would like to return to the Walkers Stadium for another loan period and said Manchester City had been pleased with the way he had developed under Eriksson. "Yes, I would be open to it," said Mee, who is trying to shake off a groin injury to face Doncaster Rovers. "I don't know what is going to happen in the summer. There are a lot of players at Manchester City and they are probably going to bring more in. "The manager here is a good manager, there are good players here and it is a big club. You can see the number of fans who follow us as well. "For a young player like me, it is a good experience to be around a club like this. "Manchester City are really happy with the way it has gone and how Leicester have handled it, so we will have to wait and see."
Guest Col city fan Posted 30 April 2011 Posted 30 April 2011 If that be the case the loanee I'd relinquish would be PVA
ian_marshall Posted 30 April 2011 Posted 30 April 2011 If that be the case the loanee I'd relinquish would be PVA Why not just sign them permanently instead?
davieG Posted 30 April 2011 Author Posted 30 April 2011 Why not just sign them permanently instead? Perhaps he'll try with some of them but it will depend on whether the clubs want to sell them and the costs involved, I'm guessing he's still talking about them as loans because that's what they are and he's too polite to assume he'll be able to sign any of them without first talking to their clubs.
Lord Fox Posted 30 April 2011 Posted 30 April 2011 Ok I'm waiting for the " are you a idiot " but the Yak would be the first to go for me, ok he scores goals, but that's it, and IMO he's a bit on the lazy side. Vitor - yes Naughton - would love to sign perm.- but will take back on loan. Mee - yes Kamara - Sign perm. as out of contract PVA - No, Yak - over priced and Lazy Get Cunningham back when fit, for PVA
Kitchandro Posted 30 April 2011 Posted 30 April 2011 Why not just sign them permanently instead? Ok. But then lets get rid of PVA anyway.
Finchy Posted 30 April 2011 Posted 30 April 2011 the Yak would be the first to go for me, ok he scores goals, but that's it haha
cairnsy Posted 30 April 2011 Posted 30 April 2011 Would love to see Naughton, Vitor, Mee and Kamara to stay, if we get who we are linked with then kamara and Maynard up front is a strikeforce to fear.

If he can perform the way he did when he came on last week then I'd happily keep him, him and Nicky Maynard. Mmmm
Jakemoore Posted 30 April 2011 Posted 30 April 2011 They yak is lazy but he scores goals, he could eerily be top goal scorer next season so he's a must, I want them all back except PVA and Bruma, however I'd possibly take Bruma back if he plays two more blinders at CDM against Donny and Ipswich
Kent Posted 30 April 2011 Posted 30 April 2011 I don't get this argument of "fair enough Yakubu scores goals but that's it". Firstly, surely a strikers job is to score goals? Fair enough working for the team is a good asset, so why do the assists, link up play, clever passes etc get forgotten? Sure his work rate is shit but to be honest I think if he bombed around for 90 minutes like Rooney then he'd be playing at a decent Premier League club.
Kitchandro Posted 30 April 2011 Posted 30 April 2011 I'd argue his finishing isn't that good. Working for the team is important, but more concerning to me is that he plays amazing 40% of the time and terrible the other 60%. He's too frustrating and inconsistent. If he was scoring every game fair enough but most of the time he just pisses everyone off by being embarrassingly bad and a waste of space. I wouldn't mind that much but the problem is he wasn't dropped when he was playing awfully (until the last match, which seemed to work). In a run of games after Bristol City (and in a couple of games before that) he was absolutely useless, it was like playing with 10 men. If Sven could get the best out of him like the last match I'd have him, but he's going to have to be ruthless and not accept any pathetic performances.
Babylon Posted 30 April 2011 Posted 30 April 2011 Be good to keep a lot so that we can keep some continuity going and not change the squad loads again. Would prefer permanent transfers though.

Kitchandro Posted 30 April 2011 Posted 30 April 2011 I thought you were talking about Fryatt for a minute. Pearson dropped Fryatt couple of times last season - he subbed him at Forest cos he was having a shocker and dropped him for the next game, in which he came off the bench and scored. I'm not against the idea of Yakubu per se, but Sven has to manage him firmly so he's not resting on his laurels, and up until recently he hadn't done that.

lcfc_jme Posted 30 April 2011 Posted 30 April 2011 Yak has 9 goals in 18 games this season, and that is in a team where everyone - not just him - was useless for 4 or 5. Keep him and pair him up top with another proven Championship goalscorer and we'd be looking at 35 - 40 goals between them next season. I'd sacrifice his work-rate for that sort of return, frankly. As for the rest, if Benfica will allow us to keep Vitor, then that MUST be done. He's a class defender and after I slated him for the Pompey away game, he hasn't really put a foot wrong. Everyone knows we should keep Naughton, but it'll depend on what Spurs are doing with Walker and how much QPR will inevitably offer in the summer. Mee is a quality defender and I'd happily take him back here on loan with an agreed purchase price. Keeping him solely on loan would be less ideal than keeping Vitor on loan seeing as we're less likely to come up against Vitor playing at Benfica than Mee at an English club. PvA provides pace out on the left, so I can't see that keeping him would upset me. He's better than any left back we've had in my recent memory and will only get better in a defensive capacity. If he is actually seen as Cole's successor at Chelsea odds on signing him are slim, but if we got him for another season-long loan it wouldn't be the end of the world. Bruma is definitely a good player, but started playing in a side that was losing, and then became completely out of, form. He's naturally the easiest scapegoat of all the loanees for our recent slump, but meh, he'd be a good acquisition for the squad. Alongside an assured CB, he'd provide adequate backup there, and he can play (arguably better) as a defensive midfielder. Would be a nice option to have. Diomansy would depend for me on whether a) his heart is in it to play in our league, b) whether he wants to play for us and c) what his wages would be. If he is out of contract next season and wasn't asking for scandalous wages, then he may be good to bring in. Would suggest that if we do want to play 4-4-2 after the summer that he may struggle to find a place, especially if we're looking at Yak + another up top and 2 out-and-out wingers.

Using that criteria, then Linekar was crap.
Bilbo Posted 30 April 2011 Posted 30 April 2011 I want the next "massive" news from Stringer to be Sven signs Naughton on three year contract.
AdamN Posted 30 April 2011 Posted 30 April 2011 Everyone asks for a 20 goal a season man, and at the rate Yakubu is scoring, he'd be well on course for that if he had a full season here. 9 in 18 is a great return, and if he averaged that strike rate over a whole season he'd be looking at finishing on a league total of 23. He was brought here to score goals, and that's what he's done. Lets not forget that the majority of his time here has coincided with our run of bad form from February through to April. If we were playing well as a team at that point and giving him better service (feed the Yak and all that) then perhaps he would have banged in a few more. As for Vitor - He'd should be second only to Naughton on Sven's wishlist of permanent signings. Top player - would love it if he stayed.
FuriousFox46 Posted 30 April 2011 Posted 30 April 2011 We really don't need Van Aanholt. He's not that great. Especially if Sven is after Cunningham, Mee can always serve LB and if not Berner is more than good enough as a backup.
lcfc22 Posted 30 April 2011 Posted 30 April 2011 The YAK, alright he doesn't have the best of work rates but he's got a goal scoring record of 1 in 2 and holds the ball up well imagine him with Maynard running off him that would be prolific in this league
