Joe. Posted 30 April 2011 Posted 30 April 2011 I think we'll sign Mee and maybe Cunningham, get Bruma and Van Aanholt back on loan and possibly get Yakubu in on a permanent. Got a feeling that with Luiz gone, Benfica will probably want Vitor back. He's welcome to stay though, he's had a good season for us.
sdb Posted 30 April 2011 Posted 30 April 2011 Get Cunningham back defo. Would be happy for Yak to stay. He scores goals.
21st Century Fox Posted 30 April 2011 Posted 30 April 2011 This could be a stroke of genius! If we kept them for another season, we have continuity, they develop. If we were to then get promoted our chances of signing them permanently would increase considerably and we'd have the nucleus of a young, consistent side in the Prem!
davieG Posted 30 April 2011 Author Posted 30 April 2011 Yak now 10 in 19 - you can't argue with that.
sphericalfox Posted 30 April 2011 Posted 30 April 2011 Yak now 10 in 19 - you can't argue with that. I'd say there are a few on here who could.
ajthefox Posted 30 April 2011 Posted 30 April 2011 Yak has 9 goals in 18 games this season, and that is in a team where everyone - not just him - was useless for 4 or 5. Keep him and pair him up top with another proven Championship goalscorer and we'd be looking at 35 - 40 goals between them next season. I'd sacrifice his work-rate for that sort of return, frankly. As for the rest, if Benfica will allow us to keep Vitor, then that MUST be done. He's a class defender and after I slated him for the Pompey away game, he hasn't really put a foot wrong. Everyone knows we should keep Naughton, but it'll depend on what Spurs are doing with Walker and how much QPR will inevitably offer in the summer. Mee is a quality defender and I'd happily take him back here on loan with an agreed purchase price. Keeping him solely on loan would be less ideal than keeping Vitor on loan seeing as we're less likely to come up against Vitor playing at Benfica than Mee at an English club. PvA provides pace out on the left, so I can't see that keeping him would upset me. He's better than any left back we've had in my recent memory and will only get better in a defensive capacity. If he is actually seen as Cole's successor at Chelsea odds on signing him are slim, but if we got him for another season-long loan it wouldn't be the end of the world. Bruma is definitely a good player, but started playing in a side that was losing, and then became completely out of, form. He's naturally the easiest scapegoat of all the loanees for our recent slump, but meh, he'd be a good acquisition for the squad. Alongside an assured CB, he'd provide adequate backup there, and he can play (arguably better) as a defensive midfielder. Would be a nice option to have. Diomansy would depend for me on whether a) his heart is in it to play in our league, b) whether he wants to play for us and c) what his wages would be. If he is out of contract next season and wasn't asking for scandalous wages, then he may be good to bring in. Would suggest that if we do want to play 4-4-2 after the summer that he may struggle to find a place, especially if we're looking at Yak + another up top and 2 out-and-out wingers. Agree with everything here
oxford blue Posted 30 April 2011 Posted 30 April 2011 Quote: "It is expected that the number of loan players allowed in the 18-man squad will be cut from five to four." Apologies if this has been raised earlier in the season, but how can the 6 loan players discuused above be in the same match squad as they have recently- and all started against Forest? Regarding the loanees: Assuming he'll be fit, I'd prefer Cunningham to return than PVA. And I'm not convinced Premiership players past heir best, expecting Permiership wages, offer value for money compared to buying a proven goal scorer at a lower level whose wages would be much less.
cairnsy Posted 30 April 2011 Posted 30 April 2011 Yak now 10 in 19 - you can't argue with that. 'But he only scores goals, he didn't put the effort in like our brilliant waggy' who scored 12 goals in 41 games last season! Hmm.. 10 in 19 or 12 in 41. I think I know who I'd rather have!

Earlydoorsjones Posted 1 May 2011 Posted 1 May 2011 Exactly. Using that criteria, then Linekar was crap. I know exactly what point you are making, (you do not intend to be disrespectful to Lineker) but Lineker made runs for himself and runs to provide space for others. Lineker is widely recognised as a very hard working and intelligent striker. No, he did not take two or three players on, but he did work the flanks and became involved in a lot of link up play out side the box. As I said, I know the point you are making, but it concerns me that there is still a conception amongst some Leicester fans that his game never developed beyond the age of 20. He was criticised by some City fans in his early days, but his game developed beyond just a box man. I would agree if you had used Tony Cottey instead of Lineker. I am a bit sensitive about Lineker - it could be rag week.
Haydos Posted 1 May 2011 Posted 1 May 2011 If you google 'foreign loans don't count' the first page that comes up is a FT one about Vitor
Ibbyfox Posted 1 May 2011 Posted 1 May 2011 If you google 'foreign loans don't count' the first page that comes up is a FT one about Vitor I actually did ........... and it didn't. God I'm soooooo gullible!
Haydos Posted 1 May 2011 Posted 1 May 2011 I actually did ........... and it didn't. God I'm soooooo gullible! Odd. I was being serious Just tried it again and it didn't Meh.
Gazza M Posted 1 May 2011 Posted 1 May 2011 I think for continuity of the squad it is important that we get most of them back. If none of them come back then you start with new players again and they have to blend in and therefore greater chances of another slow start like this season. If we can get them back with one or two suttle editions, we can hopefully hit the ground running. What I would do: Vitor- look to sign perm (2m?) PVA- send back Bruma- Season long loan. Mee- 1.5m Yakubu- 2m Kamara-Free Former Loanee: Greg Cunningham (Season long loan) I think that that some of the above are prone to the odd mistake, but they will learn through experience and a good pre-season together, they will improve.
cc_star Posted 1 May 2011 Posted 1 May 2011 Be good to keep a lot so that we can keep some continuity going and not change the squad loads again. Would prefer permanent transfers though. Yes, a 100% rebuild could mean yet another transitional season if he can get a couple or 3 of them on permanents, Yak, Mee & someone (Naughton? ) maybe it will free up a loan spot which we may need in Jan/Feb as its obviously very difficult or impossible to sign quality permanents then when we may need to replace an injured player or just cover a weak area in the squad

HowardsBulletHeader Posted 1 May 2011 Posted 1 May 2011 Naughton, Mee, Vitor & Yakubu would be the 4 main ones I would like to stay. PVA can go back as far as I'm concerned, he thinks he doesn't have to bother to track back after one of his marauding runs forward. Maybe as part of the Ben Mee deal we can do a deal for Greg Cunningham too, I was mightily impressed with him until his unfortunate injury. Bruma I would like to see stay, should we be unable to get Vitor or Mee.
nothin2seehere Posted 2 May 2011 Posted 2 May 2011 Odd. I was being serious Just tried it again and it didn't Meh. It's doing it now! Quick!
Scow Posted 2 May 2011 Posted 2 May 2011 The problem with the defensive loan players (Bruma, PVA, Mee, Vitor, Cunningham and Naughton) is that they're all young and inexperienced. I would be reluctant to take all of them because I believe that we need to inject some experience into the side next season. At a push, I would take Naughton, Vitor and Mee. However, it doesn't look likely we'll get Naughton, especially with QPR sniffing about. It has been said many a time but we have lacked an experienced head like Wayne Brown. Look at QPR this season – they’ve had this running through the spine of their team with the likes of Kenny, Hill, Derry and Helguson. Sven likes his quick and young full backs, but whoever is playing centre back (Bamba, Vitor or Mee), I think we need a wiser head alongside them, as well as a Derry type player in front of the back four. We need a new goalkeeper as well... Not too much to ask then.
MC Prussian Posted 3 May 2011 Posted 3 May 2011 They can all stay. As frustrating as it was to watch for large parts this season, given a proper pre-season and the use of a proper system, a playing philosophy by Sven, they can all be quality. But the patchwork squad and the rollercoaster start to the season that we've had always spelled surprise package from the beginning. Naughton and Mee stick out the most, Yakubu with his goals obviously (but he could use a fitness coach). Kamara performed really well in all the games I've seen him play - he's brought skill, speed and energy to an otherwise tame and stuttering midfield. Bruma and Van Aanholt are both still pretty young (19 and 20 respectively) and I believe with this enormeous six-month off-season of ours under Sven, they've now gotten a good taste of what the Championship is like. I would love to keep Vitor as he has shown his class and composure in the back since he came back from injury. Depends on how steep the asking price is, though. When you look at teams like Norwich, their big spine of players are in the region of 27, 28 years old, with a few bordering their thirties and a couple of young ones. It's all about the right mix. Given a proper summer camp and the addition of maybe one or two new players on a permanent (goalkeeper and midfielder), we can be a force to be reckoned with. We have goalscorers in the squad, we have one of the best scoring records in the league - it's the defense and the goalkeeping issue that need adjustments. Add one or two of our Academy lads in a game here or there and let them prove they're worth it. And someone should tell Andy King to take over real responsibility as a captain and act accordingly on the pitch, guiding the team as he should be - he needs a new approach, a new philosophy, the latter stages of this season have taken the toll on him. But he's young and he can still learn a thing or two.
Wymsey Posted 3 May 2011 Posted 3 May 2011 Hope the defensive trio of Mee, Naughton and Vitor (Another loan season) will still be here. By the way, Mee has been included in the provisional squad the Under-21 European Championship for England. He fully deserves it after making some fine performances for us.
