Hack Posted 23 May 2011 Posted 23 May 2011 I see there is a topic on prem teams relegated to the champ as an option for our 2011/12 recruitment. But frankly I think most players we would have some interest in are likely to want to still play in the Prem than play in the championship either with their current team or us. It is more likely that would be an attractive option for those players with Sheffield U, Preston or Scunthorpe who want to stay in the championship. Players like From Sheffield Steve Simonsen G Neill Collins D Mark Yeates M Ched Evans F From PNE Andy Lonergan G Sean St. Ledger D Keith Treacy M Billy Jones M From Scunthorpe Joe Murphy G Eddie Nolan D Now I am not for one minute saying that all of these players, or any one else from there sides should be persued or are even better than what we have, but we are more likely as is other championship teams of etting players like this than those coming down from the permiership. I would be intersted in your views on players going down from our division you thihk we should have interest in.
dave_the_fox Posted 23 May 2011 Posted 23 May 2011 Ched Evans wow forgot about him - didnt he cost them like 3 or 4 mil!? Quite like Treacy as well - fancy left foot.
Bert Posted 23 May 2011 Posted 23 May 2011 Fair point, bit there's a reason these teams got relegated from the championship, mainly due to the players. None of the players are better than what we already have.

Coaching has a lot to do with performance as saw ourselves with Sousa!! Look at Blackpool, They never were a premiership team, but players like Adams and Vaughan are. Same would apply to the teams I mentioned.
dave_the_fox Posted 23 May 2011 Posted 23 May 2011 just one quick example, Southampton went down - nearly everyone on this board said they did not want Surman - he then went to Wolves, who were in the premiership. Granted he didnt get on too well, but, he helped to get Norwich promoted this year? So, was obviously good enough - it was just that Southampton were destined to go down that year, so i wouldnt be too quick to say "theres a reason they are bottom of the league"
Father Ted Posted 23 May 2011 Posted 23 May 2011 The only two players I would even consider there would be Sean St.Ledger and Billy Jones as cover. One player who you haven't mentioned is JORDAN SLEW from Sheff Utd, a very good young prospect who has already scored 2 goals for their first team. We should be looking at players like this.
Ric Flair Posted 23 May 2011 Posted 23 May 2011 Keith Treacy would be decent here as would Yeates as squad players.
Callabinho Posted 23 May 2011 Posted 23 May 2011 Fair point, bit there's a reason these teams got relegated from the championship, mainly due to the players. None of the players are better than what we already have. Here, here. Sheffield away was the worst example of football I have ever seen.
Finnegan Posted 23 May 2011 Posted 23 May 2011 Would take Ched Evans if he was free or dirt cheap but he'd be a risk to spend milz on.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 23 May 2011 Posted 23 May 2011 St. Ledger is awful. I'd definitely consider Treacy as cover, if the price was right. Bagged a few goals and assists from the wing in a pretty shite side.
