Brainy Posted 19 January 2012 Posted 19 January 2012 Looking at three days instead of the past 18 months. As I said, typical purpleronnie optimism.
purpleronnie Posted 19 January 2012 Posted 19 January 2012 Looking at three days instead of the past 18 months. As I said, typical purpleronnie optimism. I'm only interested how were playing now, the past is just that, we did well ,celebrate it, but don't keep harking back to the past, we should be moving forward and trying to improve but it doesn't look like its happening. Realism.

Realism. Yeah, doesnt look like it's happening after one test match in a place we've never played a cricket match before. Im not gonna bother saying it for a 3rd time, we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Im not gonna bother saying it for a 3rd time, we'll just have to agree to disagree. So because we havent played there before thats an excuse for the number 1 test nation being outplayed? I just compare player to player to other nations and i believe a few of the other top nations have stronger squads. I hope I'm wrong and we remain on top for years but I cant see it happening. Guess we'll see who's right, see you back here in a couple of years.
Brainy Posted 19 January 2012 Posted 19 January 2012 The 4-0 hiding England dished out to India last summer looks a little less impressive, now it seems Australia are about to do the same. This has been a tour too far for several of the Indian old guard, including Sachin. He's been one of Indias top scorers on that tour Only off the top of my head, mind.
purpleronnie Posted 19 January 2012 Posted 19 January 2012 It's one test match ffs Crikey it's a good job you arent like with City. I'm used to us failing. p.s. I repeat its not based on this match.

Australia have loads of youngsters coming through right now and have done well against the likes of NZ and now an embarrasing India team. Im not trying to knock them but we'll see in a few years if they're still performing to the level they've started at cause there's still time for the opposition to work them out. England pretty much wrecked Phil Hughes' intl. career after having a really impressive start in South Africa. England have a relatively young bowling attack and have been consistently strong and performing well for a few years now, so its not a case of Bresnan and Broad coming onto the scene and opposition not being fully aware what to expect.
Brainy Posted 19 January 2012 Posted 19 January 2012 I'm used to us failing. p.s. I repeat its not based on this match. So what is it based on? Perth 2010?
purpleronnie Posted 19 January 2012 Posted 19 January 2012 So what is it based on? Perth 2010? I already said, meh, I base it on the strength of the squads, I believe teams like Aussies playing at their best are superior. And maybe history does play a part we often have highs in our sports but they rarely last before were overtaken and we go into freefall maybe its that aswell that influences my opinion, its how I feel and like I said before we'll wait and see.
Alexikokopops Posted 19 January 2012 Posted 19 January 2012 He only times we've lost under Flowers (before today) we've lost three by an innings, one by 327 runs and one by 4 wickets. Add in today's 10 wicket loss and it's fair to say that if we lose we tend to get spanked Given that a lot of the dismissals (first innings especially) we're down to players misjudging flight it stinks of rustiness, especially when you take into account our last test was in August. It'd be easy to criticise the build up but we struggled to arrange those two warm up games in Dubai as it was. Anyway, let's see how the next test goes before jumping to any rash conclusions (this isn't aimed at you purpleronnie, or anyone else in here)
Corky Posted 19 January 2012 Posted 19 January 2012 So because we havent played there before thats an excuse for the number 1 test nation being outplayed? . Yes. It's not like going to Pakistan or India, I'm sure there are differences that will take time to adjust to. As long as we don't panic we can get back in the series- the bowling wasn't too bad, the batting needs a massive improvement.
Guest MattP Posted 19 January 2012 Posted 19 January 2012 I'm used to us failing. p.s. I repeat its not based on this match. Not trying to pick a fight here but what on earth else can it be based on? We've got argubly the best batting line up in the world, the best wicket-keeper batsman ( at 7obv because Sangakarra is that damn good) in the world, the best opening swing bowler in the world and the 2nd best spinner. We bat down to number 9 and we just lost our first test match for 14 months. We've lost one match after a huge rest, the whole way we batted looked like players who hadnt spent time out in the middle, lets take a look back after we have played these two series on the sub continent.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 19 January 2012 Posted 19 January 2012 Watson will come back in for Cowan though won't he? Add Haddin and that's still 5 of the top 7. I like Warner but he won't be teeing off like last week agaisnt a decent attack that moves the ball early. This has been absolutely pathetic from our batsman this week, I nearly went to the first test here, so glad I decided not to. Cowan will stay, Watto will come back in for Marsh if he is fit in the short term or Ponting if Wattos injury keeps him sidelined. Haddin will be out if he fails in this test and replaced with my man Matty Wade. I take it you haven't seen much of Warners career, he only knows one way and that is attack Doesn't matter if it's Ishant Sharm and Zaheer Khan or Stuey Broad and Jimmy Anderson he will go for it. In Warners innings the first 15 overs the ball was swinging but Warner was just seeing them like Beach Balls.

When he made that 80 odd, thought he was very talented but I'm reserving just how good he is until he bats outside of Aus V a decent attack, he struggled last season in England playing for Durham. Don't get me wrong he looked fantastic last week but the bowling India were serving up was absolute dross. He won't be doing that in England with a duke cricket ball swinging everywhere (the swing Ishant and Zageer got was nothing like what you get here). See Virinder Sehwags record over here. He'll need to develop patience to be a top test match batsman, thats a certainty.
Corky Posted 19 January 2012 Posted 19 January 2012 Who are these Aussies? The best one they ever had was Andrew Symonds and he was born here. Fook off.
Guest MattP Posted 19 January 2012 Posted 19 January 2012 Who are these Aussies? The best one they ever had was Andrew Symonds and he was born here. Fook off. Remember three years ago they all raving about this left hander Phil Hughes who was going to tear us to pieces......
FoxyPV Posted 24 January 2012 Author Posted 24 January 2012 Aussies recovered well after a poor start. Ponting and Clarke dominating. I know almost every English person hates Punter but I'm glad to see him reach 13,000 runs and batting well. Some of the Indian fielding has been atrocious.

You can add batting and bowling to that list.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 Clarkes innings was really good averages over 65 since being made captain.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 25 January 2012 Posted 25 January 2012 Another Double ton by Clarkey great effort. Ponting also got a double ton. Was a shame Clarke wasn't there with Ponting when Ponting reached the double ton
Alexikokopops Posted 25 January 2012 Posted 25 January 2012 Classic Monty. Drops a (admittedly difficult) c&b chance and then bowls him next ball
Guest MattP Posted 25 January 2012 Posted 25 January 2012 Why are we bowling Monty so much here? It's bizarre.
Guest MattP Posted 25 January 2012 Posted 25 January 2012 Really dont understand this from Strauss today. MS Panesar 33 9 91 1 2.75 GP Swann 18 2 52 3 2.88 Starting to go backwards calling players like Panesar back. There was a huge reason why he was dropped in the first place.
Corky Posted 25 January 2012 Posted 25 January 2012 Decent day for England, need to bat well when we're in.
