Tired Footballers

The players just aren't good enough. Ferdinand has had it. Terry is going that way. Johnson is shocking - why, oh why, Micah Richards isn't in the squad I don't know. Parker isn't the solution to the midfield. Lampard and Gerrard are both knackered. Walcott has no end product. Would prefer Aaron Lennon who has only a marginally better final ball. Milner is not a winger and was hopeless until he was moved in-field.

I remember pre-game in the build-up Andy Townsend saying he liked the 4-3-3/-4-5-1 formation of England, but when I thought about it, the lone striker would be Rooney - so essentially, we would have no striker on the pitch as he'd run back to defensive midfield to pick the ball up. The tactics of Capello leave a lot to be desired, but the players themselves aren't good enough.

Although i agree with alot of what you have said, i dont agree with the quality bit. Ferdinand has been solid at club level with vidic...best defensive pair in the world at club level. A.cole is consistently performing for both club and country. Terry has had a poor season, but he still remains a classy defender. I agree with micah richards being put in. Parker has had an outstanding season, even though w.ham got relegated. Lennon, walcott and young have had great seasons...been good. Lampard and gerrard have been quiet this season - but we all know what they are capable of. Wilshere - already a star, best english player this season. Rooney - outstanding 2nd part of season.

This brings me on to the tactics...well the world cup.showed why we cant play 4-4-2...outnumbered in midfield so i think 4-5-1 system is the.way forward.

My england team would be

Hart

Richards. Ferdinand. Terry. A.cole.

Parker. Gerrard

Lennon. Wilshere. A. Young

Rooney

Yeah i agree, but we have one of the best teams in the world i believe, only spain have a better squad IMO, we should be doing better then we are for sure!

I don't know how you can say you agree that we expect too much and then say our squad is second only to the best team in the world.

A little contradictory and more to the point it's one of the problems. To me, that stinks of arrogance and is typical of many England fans who have this idea that we have this god given right to do really well. I'm not making a personal judgement about you being arrogant or whatever, but I really question anyone who thinks we're that good.

Cant agree with you there mate. Our squad isnt THAT great. Our strikers are average at best (aside from Rooney), for a start, and we have no depth in goalkeepers as they are all dropping out of the squad like flies.

I wont go in to how i would solve the problem because its been said by many people, many times before, and i could write a stupidly long essay haha.

You contradicted yourself anyway, by saying you agree that supporters expect too much, then say you think we have one of the best squads in the world....that doesnt make sense.

My general feeling when numerous threads of this nature come up seem to equate not just professional football, but professional sports in general as 'easy' which i think we can all agree is not the case.

The fact that they play professional sports, and get paid well, does not give an immunity to tiredness.

Its pretty convenient that we always highlight the premiership players too who make up an absolute decimal fraction of the population and we never talk about the league two and conference footballers who are probably on less playing football that they could have been on doing something else. The top 1% in any profession will make big bucks, these guys are at the very top of the profession and so rightly make big bucks

These big bucks earners must plough thousands into our economy in tax too, so im grateful for that for sure

And this typical shit always comes up about 'ohhhhhhh get a real job do 40 hours a week im tired blah blah blah become a nurse become a policeman go in the army and get shot blah blah blah' these comments have got no reference to tiredness or the profession of football, its merely these people saying that they hate their jobs, they DO enjoy football and are envious of the opportunity to earn money from something they enjoy, and want to do something else. Fact is you havent got the skills to do something more rewarding and your stuck with your 40+ hour a week job you hate.

I went off topic, but i think my points valid

I think you're missing the point. Refer to posts about other top international teams and whether they're making excuses about being tired or not. These are elite athletes who, from what I've read about modern training methods, aren't training at maximum or anywhere near it during the playing season.

Are they going to be saying this at the end of every year? If you hadn't noticed the 2 major international championships are at the end of the season. It's another pathetic excuse that is unacceptable if we're to be a top 10 nation.

Nope, didnt know anything about the Euros or the WC. Arse.

Im not missing the point at all. Fact is if Spain didnt beat Venezuela last night then the same would be being said about them. Most footballers have young kids to look after, some have their sponsor events or whatever you want to call them to attend, some have both. They train three or four days a week, play one game a week or sometimes two, they have alot of travelling to do especially the players playing in European comps, and this is pretty much for 9 months straight. Personally I wouldnt be surprised if its more a mental thing than physical. Some of the players probably do find it difficult to enjoy playing for their country when they read some of the shit the media write when they dare concede a goal to a team like Kazakhstan.

If you are talking about England then the players are tired.... of Fabio Capello.

The bloke is a dead man walking, lost any respect the players had for him in South Africa and should have gone after that tournament.

His inability to communicate effectively and the way in which he treats the players like little kids has left most of them looking past the Euros and to the new coming era.

This would be my England team

Hart

Richards

A.Cole

Terry

Ferdinand

Lennon

Young

Wilshere

Gerrard

Rooney

Carroll/Crouch.

Our defenders can't distribute the ball to save their lives, Terry and Ferdinand seem incapable of passing it to a midfielder anymore.

Ashley Cole at centre back?

Ashley Young in the centre of midfield?

Aaron completely brainless no quality whatsoever Lennon?

4 4 2 When South Africa clearly proved that the rigid 4 4 2 does not work at international level

Schoolboy error, you listed the wide players before the central players, my apologies kiddo.

even so, i dont like aaron lennon, or 4 4 2

There are plenty of jobs where people work hard physically, sometimes for hours on end and then get up and do the same again the next day.

It's just an excuse.

They are both past their best.

We dont have a team at its peak, half arent ready yet, half are on the way down

Players like Aaron Lennon, Carroll, Baines, Downing..............theyre the best weve got, but you can only get so far on 'decent' players

At what point can you legitimately say you are tired? please dont give me the 'they only play football' blah blah or else i know the post isnt serious

Can a professional footballer ever be tired without being remarked on?

The way I always do it. I just think Lennon is more consistent than Walcott. In a few years I'd say Addm Johnson will have his place anyway.

And often in these jobs 50-60% of your best in enough.

Whilst as a football you have to give your all and more every game.

Id personally perfer Walcott but i think both of them have very little end product unfortunately, and for sure i could see Adam Johnson in the future, think hes more complete than the other two

If they are they certainly shouldn't be telling the media. For Cappello to say that was plain stupid, a fact JT quickly dismissed.

Absolutely! im glad someone can finally see the point!

People who go on about tiredness and footballers do so because 'woes me ive got a crap job and i want to play football'

To those who bang on about tiredness as an excuse......see how much money you make from professional sports. And see how 'easy' it is

lol

Stick to the point and look at the arguments posted here and here. Sports scientists have said numerous times that elite footballers are far from being among the elite athletes. They do not train as hard physically. Yet this 'tiredness' excuse is very prevalent in football. I don't believe these guys (the England NT) are physically tired at this stage, but I do believe they lack motivation to give themselves 100% in these matches. These are valid arguments so don't go and talk such patronising crap as "people think it's easy" and "they're unhappy because they have crap jobs boohoo". Unless you're just trolling in which case I'm sorry I wasted a few minutes of my life typing this

Youre probably right about sports science

99% of the population couldnt give a monkeys toss about what sports science says, and it comes back to my point that you cant be a professional footballer and be tired........it just cant happen.......youre immune damn in! the money makes you immune to tiredness!

and they lambast the england team based on blind patriotism, complete over exuberance and wild optimism over the team. We cant 'expect' to roll teams like the Swiss over, fact

Ive hit the nail on the head, people grow up in England with a blame culture and for someone to be seen in a position of being fortunate like a footballer means you cannot be tired, and if you are tired, it simply fuels the fire for those that are deeply envious of them and then they can trot out their usual speil

such as

1) 'How can you get tired when you get paid a fortune!?!?!?'

2) 'He earns more in a week than most in a year!?!?!?!'

3) 'Try getting a REAL job then youll know what tired is'

and so on and so on

NO sportsman has an inbuilt sense of NOT wanting to give 100%. Its inbuilt in you as a human being.....you dont actively want to lose...... theres players in that England team on sat that are going to be the backbone of that team for years to come and damned it if they arent motivated to show that and become global stars

Did people say, or not say on here that towards the end of the season Andy King was looking tired, and perhaps needed a rest?

whats the difference between that and the England lads then?

tired or not we should have beaten the swiss comfortably. Also i saw that the average games the spanish team played conpared to england this season was greater, and so we should not really use it as an excuse. Players do get tired through the season, both mentally and physically, kets not be stupid, but the players should be motivated by wanting to do well for the country and this should override any tiredness!
