MC Prussian Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 I don't know whether this has been mentioned before (if so, feel free to merge or point out the alternative thread), but BBC's 606 Forum has been shut down for good. They cite cost and maintanance issues. As you can imagine, most serious 606 users are not happy. http://www.bbc.co.uk...ure_of_606.html Personally, I don't mind this step. Most comments or threads that I've seen since I joined about a year ago were of such poor quality.
Guest Mee-9 Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 That means Foxestalk will see an increase of twats on here. And I don't mean me posting more regularly.
Corky Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 Used to be on there but got fed up of barely literate Coventry supporters hijacking every thread.
StanSP Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 Used to be on there but got fed up of barely literate Coventry supporters hijacking every thread. To be fair, it wasn't just Cov fans. Every fan of virtually every club would just spam each others' boards under different aliases. It used to be alright. But for the pas one or two years, you'd get like 1 intelligent and good-debated topic out of 10.

Guest Bilo Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 Tried it a couple of times but thought it was gash. Like others, it was the PUSB4EVA and <3NFFC teenage types with all the intelligence of mentally stunted fruit bats that ruined it. I can imagine it needed a huge amount of modding. Where these types will go now is hard to say, though Bentley's Roof does seem a popular destination for Blackpool trolls for some unknown reason and we get our fair share when a local derby is coming back. Of course we have a handful of resident trolls who just won't fvck off as well..... Still, my advice is always the same.
Super_horns Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 Some have set up a site called "not606" now... Our section who ok but in the Premiership stuff you just saw a load of WUMs and "banter" in the various rivals.
accessory Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 606 was good in the early days (02-03), but as more folk joined, the quality issues increased with them. Seems to be a familar pattern with message boards..

DB11 Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 They don't really cite cost and maintenance though. They say that user numbers have declined with the emergence of Facebook and Twitter, which you can understand. The 606 users can join a page on Facebook, or even set up their own forum. I don't think it'll affect the BBC too much personally.

I don't think it'll affect the BBC too much personally. One reason is the drop in user numbers, the other (although not stated explicitly) is that costs and returns were in a proper mismatch. In essence, the BBC dropped the project because they're facing a drastic cost-cutting phase and the peripheral media is first to be sacrificed.
