Guest Col city fan Posted 14 June 2011 Posted 14 June 2011 Is anybody else starting to tire of the perceived need to sign Yakubu as our saviour up front? Yes he's a good sniffer in front of goal... But, it's becoming more apparent that his desire to be at city is becoming clouded by histhoughts of bigger wages and crowds in turkey... Is this the sort of player city need both for now and the future? I'd much rather pay the thirty grand a week and three million fee on a younger player with more desire to improve, to impress and to, most importantly, want to join city to improve himself as a player. I personally would much rather go for someone like MacKail Smith than the yak... He may not be as good a natural striker but would give more to the team, the squad and ultimately the club.. I for one, wouldn't care a monkeys toss if we don't get the Yak... Opinions please...

Doop-Doop Posted 14 June 2011 Posted 14 June 2011 He scores goals right? Who cares if his wages are high and he is a jerk on the pitch. Most teams have 1 or 2 players like this
Corky Posted 14 June 2011 Posted 14 June 2011 Well if we get him back then I'm pleased, he's scored 11 and made 6 in 20 games last season, plus he's scored goals for other clubs, so he has a good record previously. But if he doesn't want to join then we move on to someone else.
ajthefox Posted 14 June 2011 Posted 14 June 2011 As if starting this thread wasn't bad enough, you've gone on to compare Yakubu to Mackail Smith. Oh. My. God.
Guest Col city fan Posted 14 June 2011 Posted 14 June 2011 How do you know this? I, like most others, can only refer to media sources... Which claim that city have agreed a fee for him but the player is undecided as to where his future lies... See last nights mercury for example There seems no apparent yearning to put pen to paper...
ScouseFox Posted 14 June 2011 Posted 14 June 2011 He's so much better than anyone else we have. He's much better than anything else we can get for his price. I'd be gutted if we don't snap him up, but as long as we get someone decent as an alternative, and they score at just as good a rate next year, I'll be happy.

My two cents, he's probably on holiday.

I concede that yakubu is a more Natural striker, but a players personality and desire to improve is a part of the equation... Take dj Campbell for example... Probably the best finisher city have had at the club for some time, but his attitude stinks, or at least it did at city... I believe MacKail smith would give his all for the club, whereas I'm not convinced this is true of yakubu

As I read things, the article in Tuesdays Mercury seems to confirm what you say. He doesn't seem to be that keen to come back to City imo. Money seems to be his motivation, I would prefer someone that is hungry & wants to wear the shirt. I trust in The Mighty Sven, I for one am not panicking by the fact that we haven't signed anyone yet.

EDIT: In other words I don't think anybody liked DJ here. When Sousa tried to keep him half the squad asked to leave. Yak might be lazy but he seems a nice bloke, and from the videos and pictures I've seen he gets on well with rest of the squad.

The whole issue about laziness, passion, desire etc etc whatever the fook you want to call it isn't even relevant to these two. You're nuts if you think that that headless chicken would bring more to this team than Yakubu. And before you tell me to read your post, how about instead of being lazy and starting a new thread, you look through what everyone else has said in the Yakubu thread. You have not brought up any issue that hasn't been discussed in depth already.

I believe those quotes were attributed to his agent, can't think why he'd have a vested interest in increasing his wages and manipulating some competition from abroad. This could have gone in the current Yakubu thread though.

However, with yakubu I sense it is his ONLY motivation... This is not the case with all players, even in the mercenary arena of contemporary soccer, or at least I hope it isn't. I simply sense that yakubu himself wouldn't be bothered if he joins city or not

He hasn't really been quoted as saying alot since his loan was up and just because he hasn't signed yet doesn't mean he doesn't want to or is having second thoughts. He scores a goal every other game, which tends to win us matches. Running around and kissing the badge doesn't tend to.

kiwifox6 Posted 15 June 2011 Posted 15 June 2011 im only a newby, but did this really need a new thread? could you not have just posted this in one of the other yak threads? you are getting the same arguments.....
One Arm Babba Posted 15 June 2011 Posted 15 June 2011 I think around 100 members need to take a month off and stop speculating on non-information. WE ARE IN JUNE... Most players are still on holiday. I would imagine by the middle of July we will have 4 or 5 new players. I can wait til then to find out. Perhaps others should too.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 15 June 2011 Posted 15 June 2011 Can the season hurry the fook up so all the twats can fook off again!
B52 Posted 15 June 2011 Posted 15 June 2011 I am only interested in what the player can do on the pitch. I've seen a lot of players talk about how much they want to play for a certain club and then plays like shit. I rather have a player who wants to be in a Champions League-team and plays like a god for us instead. Words is just words.
Callabinho Posted 15 June 2011 Posted 15 June 2011 I've just opened my skittles only to find them all blue...... Tis a sign
