You are pulling my leg now aren't you, 'neither here nor there' - you can't fool me!

I got it... I'm just a grammar nazi, regardless of a joke or not.

would take him, a fit and motivated Alan Smith, would do a decent job for a bottom half prem side, wasn't he trying to break into the England squad when Sven was manager or am i wrong?

but non the less if he had a decent pre season and was fit and motivated yes please!!!

Smith Wellens King

midfield 3. thanks!

Oh, so he is better than Yuki Abe. Absolute TOSH! But then if you think Wellens is better than Abe, you probably do think Smith is good.

We get it, you don't rate Wellens.

No need to bring it up in practically every thread you grace with your presence.

I certainly would take a punt if his wages are deemed acceptable. I don't think he's the type of player to come and sit and drag a wage. The way he plays the game i reckon he'd soon become a fans favourite.

I'm not oakley's biggest fan but even I rate him higher than smudger. In his youth at leeds smith was a genuine talent up front and he has still got good technique. He lost his way at mufc due to the quality of the players ahead of him up front and due to fergie deciding he was better in midfield when clearly he doesn't influence much in that role. An awful leg break, loss of pace and total loss of an eye for a goal means he is a waste of money.

I am truly sorry about that. I do go on about him - but I am impressed with your powers of observation.

As for 'gracing' this forum, I can only assure you it's my pleasure.

if he'd take a drop in wages id take him without a doubt. he may be an arse hole but hes a leader who gives 110 % everytime. he was a regular for man united in midfield after keane left and did a good job. ferguson obviously seen something in him so thats good enough for me!! although i doubt this will happen and ive heqard no speculation what so ever.

He's not been shit for ten years at all. He was decent at Man United but has been a shadow of his former self since he went to Newcastle and got injured again. I'd take a gamble on him though if his wages are reasonable.

That's the stumbling block I guess... His wages and hes never really gotten over the bad injury.. We can do better

Somebody who played over 30times in one of the best sides The Championship has seen in the last few years wouldn't get in our side?

He may get into the side as it is now.. But in svens new look City team! No way...

(well maybe...) lol

As a holding midfielder he's a very good player. Yes there's better but, at the end of the day, we're in the second tier so we can't attract just anyone.

i agree i think we should be building a squad not just first 11 and someone who can play in more than one position would be very welcome

test booked for morning as would be a very good SQUAD player

What is a very good squad player? Someone who isn't good enough for the 1st team but looks the part on the bench? Surely, with limited finances in the championship, you build a squad of players who you feel might be able to stake a claim to a first 11 spot. Spending top wages on someone who is not going to play much is surely a bit flawed?

Btw I have no problem with having a utility player who can play a lot of roles. I don't think smudger is the man. Ten years ago I defo would've wanted him as a striker but he is no great shakes as a midfielder and I don't think you'll find many Geordie fans who will miss him on the pitch.

People on here think we have a god given right to sign anyone because we've got a few quid for the first time in about 10 years.
