bald reynard Posted 30 June 2011 Posted 30 June 2011 With all this transfer activity IN, I reckon it's pretty likely that we'll be shipping OUT a few players very soon. I'm sure we've only kept the likes of Waghorn, Bamba and Howard (including offering him an extension to his contract recently) in case we need some 'bait' to get someone in - eg Waghorn going out to Brizzle, to 'sweeten' a Maynard deal, or Bamba to Everton to help a Yakubu buy. Now those deals are (probably) off - and we need some cash IN, I'm sure Waggie and Sol will be going out soon (somewhere - if not the 'original' destination). We know the Sheepsh***ers were after Waggie - probably not them now, but I'm sure there'll be plenty of others keen - and it's likely we'll have loads of strikers IF all these (reported) deals happen (CMS, Nugent, Evans, the Korean guy etc - plus Sschhlup). Same with centre backs (Mills, SSL, Mee, Vitor - plus Parkes and possibly Tunch) - there won't be much room for Sol. I'm also sure that Sven will want to dispose of players he's rarely started matches with - Bruno (if Masilele finally signs), Dyer (if Routledge or Whittingham come) & Oakley (now Danns is in) - and them fringe players who've never had a look-in - Moreno, Crncic, Logan, N'Guessan & Neilson (I don't think he's officially gone yet - 'cept in the head - has he ?!). Of last years squad, I reckon we'll only be left with Wellens, Kingy, Gallagher, Vassell, Weale and (probably) Abe & Moussa. I know the Thais don't really need the cash, but they are businesssmen - and they will like to TRY and balance the books a bit.

bald reynard Posted 30 June 2011 Author Posted 30 June 2011 Doubt we'll sell Bamba tbh. No, I think he will go if we get Mills and St Ledger - especially if Mills is the price that's being reported ! And we know that there was a bit of interest in him from a couple of Prem clubs a few weeks ago.

Yeah, but we know Sven IS (actively) looking for at least 2 new CB's - and a couple deals are pretty likely (SSL and Mee, I would suggest) and a couple more are distinct possibilities (Mills and Vitor). I said that I think Sol would go, IF we get Mills & SSL.

HangerLCFC Posted 30 June 2011 Posted 30 June 2011 I could see the likes of Howard, Waghorn (on loan) Oakley, Weal, Bamba going to other clubs, and I also think your right that a lot of these deals will be to help in pursuit of other players, like Maynard, 4m plus Waghorn on loan, I also think Dyer needs to go cause I think he can see with the players that we have been linked with and the reported bids we have put in its going to be even harder for him to get into the squad
MGLCFC Posted 30 June 2011 Posted 30 June 2011 Bamba would be a better holding midfielder - strong, confident on the ball, quick and good energy - this may be Sven's plan and then he can use him as back up as well. Back up centre half that is.

I agree with you - I think he's generally OK, but does have 'rushes of blood to the head' and (as a Hibs fan said when we got him), he can be, " a bit of a car crash at times" ! I just think that Sven will want a steadier and more dependable guy at the back - and, if there's (decent) money on the table from a Premier club for him , I reckon he'll take it. If the money's not good, or if no one is interested, or we don't actually get more than one of the buys mentioned, I'd be happy for him to stay. I think Sven would say the same.

I think your judgement is clouded by his positioning when he played on the left side. At right CB you have a hard time finding a better one in Championship. Plus he can play on the right side and in midfield. He would also fit a striker role if asked. He's too quick and too strong to let go.

He's a bombscare but Him, St Ledger and Mee (Mills aint coming is he) with Tunch as well would give solid CB options that can slot in at full back positions to. Dyer and Howard have little to no value and I can only see Waghorn going as a make weight if we go after Maynard.

ajthefox Posted 30 June 2011 Posted 30 June 2011 I think some have forgotten just how short we are on personnel, particularly in defence as we have barely anyone there. Selling Bamba would be a bad move and I'm pretty sure that since we've only made one bid for Maynard that the Waghorn sweetner deal is pure hear'say. Dyer played in 39 games last season and although many were sub appearances, I don't think Sven would've used him so much had he not thought he was useful, which I believe he still is. Wouldn't be surprised if Howard went but could quite easily see him here next season too.
