shen Posted 3 July 2011 Posted 3 July 2011 Was watching the womens world cup when i saw this last night. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ESqZ5Ko0HaQ  What the hell was she thinking?! And how did the officials not react? Maybe they were too shocked and embarrassed to do anything, thinking this poor girl has no idea what she's supposed to do on a footall pitch Somehow it reminded me of this. Stupid beyond belief

Stupid beyond belief At least the ref was on to that one The ref in this match barely played blew her whistle tackles were flying in all over the place from EG and still no free kicks was a very heated match. Can't see the ref, ref another game in this World Cup
MC Prussian Posted 3 July 2011 Posted 3 July 2011 Thank fvck I'm not buying into this Women's Football hype. Besides, the most shocking handball decision in recent times is still
Finnegan Posted 4 July 2011 Posted 4 July 2011 Somehow it reminded me of this. Stupid beyond belief I'm sure I watched a documentary with a bit about this on it, somewhere. Must have been during a World Cup. I'm sure I read that the player was well aware what he was doing and that it was a form of protest because the players were being mistreated by their own FA or government or something like that. I can't remember exactly. I'd put money on Kokopops knowing.

I can't remember exactly. I'd put money on Kokopops knowing. They'd lost the previous match to Yugoslavia 9-0 and had been threatened by the Zaire President's guards that if they lost by more that three goals to Brazil they wouldn't be allowed to return home. Brazil were leading 3-0 at the time of the free kick. It wasn't quite a protest, just a moment born out of complete panic at the high pressure situation they'd been put under by an authoritarian director, and Illunga Mwepu's fear of not being able to return home to his country and his family. It's never quite as funny when you know the background behind it. I read it in a copy of When Saturday Comes a probably during last year's World Cup, so that could have been where you saw it.

Finnegan Posted 4 July 2011 Posted 4 July 2011 Not sure what you mean, Webbo. I only see divine intervention. And Alex, you big, predictable nerd.
The Doctor Posted 4 July 2011 Posted 4 July 2011 Close the thread. clearly just a header, nothing wrong there.
Alexikokopops Posted 4 July 2011 Posted 4 July 2011 And Alex, you big, predictable nerd. My housemate used to call me the Fact Elephant. I remain strangely proud of that nickname.
