sdb Posted 4 July 2011 Posted 4 July 2011 he's a centre back - all this right-side CB or Left-side CB is utter rubbish. Debatable.
Haydos Posted 4 July 2011 Posted 4 July 2011 Debatable. It's not 'rubbish' but is massively less significant that some made it out to be with regards to Hobbs.
ScouseFox Posted 4 July 2011 Posted 4 July 2011 We had nobody capable of playing left centre back for large parts of last season, but quite a few who were more than capable at right centre back. There's clearly a difference.
Libertine Posted 4 July 2011 Posted 4 July 2011 We had nobody capable of playing left centre back for large parts of last season, but quite a few who were more than capable at right centre back. There's clearly a difference. Not necessarily. I think a lot of the partnerships just didn't compliment each other well. Bruma/Bamba are both decent enough individually but together rather a shambles. Whereas Vitor/Bamba did quite well despite both being right-sided. ( I think? )

There's clearly a difference. Not debating there's a difference. Just that a good player (Promotion chasing standard) should be able to adapt to play in the LCB slot if required. If there is an issue, gameplan should also be addressed. Positioning/depth of back line/priorities should be different. It shouldn't be more than a slight problem.
STUHILL Posted 4 July 2011 Posted 4 July 2011 Agree with what someone said earlier about underestimating this signing. I think because we are getting linked with players like Matt Mills and Maynard etc, but this is definitely a good signing. He will go right in at the back and knows the league and what's required. Only 26, which is a great age for a defender. Good balance of youth and experience which is needed at the back. Has been the stand-out player for Preston for a while now, which isn't easy at the back to always get noticed. 1.2million if right isn't a bad price either. Good work Sven. Fingers crossed for Mills and then we have a very tidy looking back four with that SA dude due to join too!!
Maybes Posted 4 July 2011 Posted 4 July 2011 £1.2m if the media are to be believed is a good price considering we got £800k for Hobbs. Good work Svenda.

Yes and I read Boro had a 4.5million pound deal agreed a while back when he went for that loan deal but fell out with Strachan etc. Also Ipswich bid 1.5million in Jan and got turned down. Good deal Sven!!
thybluefox Posted 4 July 2011 Posted 4 July 2011 On the OS now. Dam that pitch looks amazing! Every signing it gets better! I'm happy with St Ledge, not going to set the world alight but a solid player who knows what it takes.
irish bluearmy Posted 4 July 2011 Posted 4 July 2011 St Ledger is class well anytime iv seen him play for Ireland(and i go to all the games) he has been very good for us and i hope he puts his international form into a city shirt,be a great signing Blarmy
Alexikokopops Posted 5 July 2011 Posted 5 July 2011 There's not enought names with "St." in them. We just need to sign a few Jimmy's and Bobby's and we can pretend it's the 1960s again.
ajthefox Posted 5 July 2011 Posted 5 July 2011 Don't know an awful lot about him to be honest but he's got loads of experience in this division and that is something that will help no end. Solid signing imo.

The mums of the 1980's didn't like James or Robert for their masculine child, they preferred the likes of Alex, Kevin Danny and Antwan. Fortunately the 1980's mums are now past child bearing age so there's real hope. Come on Woollers we need a Jimmy Jr.
