Leicester City have today (Monday) completed the signing of defender Sean St. Ledger, who joins the Foxes from Preston North End for an undisclosed fee.

Sean, 26, has signed a three-year deal with City and becomes the Club's fourth new arrival of the summer, joining Lee Peltier, Neil Danns and Kasper Schmeichel among Sven-Goran Eriksson's new recruits.

One of the Championship's most consistent and sought-after defenders in recent seasons and capped 18 times by the Republic of Ireland, Sean joins the Foxes after five years in Preston, whom he joined from Peterborough United in July 2006.

Leicester City manager Sven-Goran Eriksson said: "I am very pleased that Sean will be joining us. He expressed a real desire to play for Leicester City and I believe that he will have a positive impact here at the Club.

"Sean is a very good defender and has proven this in league football, but also on the international stage for the Republic of Ireland.

"He fits the profile of hungry players, eager to impress and work hard for their place. He is strong and is a reliable defender. I am certain that alongside our other new signings, he will help to improve our team."

A regular in Giovanni Trapattoni's Ireland side since making his international debut two years ago, St. Ledger's reputation has soared in recent seasons.

Preston's Player of the Year in 2008, St. Ledger played exactly 200 games for the Lancashire club, but was crucially ruled out of last season's run-in through injury as the Lilywhites were relegated to League 1.

Born in Birmingham, Sean began his career with the Posh and made nearly 100 appearances in four years as a professional with the London Road outfit, before Preston paid £225,000 to take him to Deepdale in July 2006.

The move was a huge success, with St. Ledger crowned Player of the Year in his second season and starring in the side that reached the Championship play-offs in 2009. He joined Middlesbrough on loan the following September with a view to a permanent switch, but resumed his career at Deepdale three months later.

At international level, Sean was an automatic selection during the Republic's qualification campaign for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, scoring twice as Trapattoni's men reached the play-offs. He earned widespread praise for his performances in the two-legged defeat to France and has remained the regular fixture in the squad, most recently appearing in last month's 2-0 win over Italy in Liege.

Sean's home debut in a Foxes shirt could be in this summer's historic fixture against Spanish giants Real Madrid on Saturday July 30. Tickets for the game are currently on sale to Season Ticket Holders and prospective Members. Click here for more information.

Am I the only one who won't believe anything until he's on the OS holding up an LCFC shirt with a big cheesy grin on his face. ;)

Welcome to Lestoh City FC, Sean "Babyface" St Ledger!

Very surprised to see the OS react that quickly.

Now all I need is a couple of more signings this week and the OS getting a complete overhaul (à la Manchester City) and we're set!
