ajthefox Posted 22 July 2011 Posted 22 July 2011 Pearson and Sousa asked Oakley to play roles (i.e. winger) that he wasn't comfortable playing. This wasn't due to a lack of desire or effort, but due to the condition of his knees from the injuries he's received throughout his career, most notably in 2003 with Middlesbrough. Sven, however, has put him in a role where a lot less is asked of him physically. In games where we get a bit more time on the ball he can be superb. I actually thought he put in a lot more effort than most of our other players towards the end of last season too. I'd keep him. He's decent back up, and a good role model for the kids. So what, he didn't clap us at Derby... I wouldn't have clapped us either. I felt embarrassed to be a Leicester fan in that away end due to the stick he was getting that day. Can't really comment on the Derby thing but that aside I totally agree.

Totally agree with this, apart from the fact Oakley has never played for Middlesbrough He was with Southampton in 2003. He's only played for them, derby and us.

Stevie Synex Posted 22 July 2011 Posted 22 July 2011 I think Oakley was misunderstood that day at Derby - as a professional he was enjoying the unusual experience of being supported by both sets of fans and when he was substituted he just happened to be facing the Dierby fans when he started applauding. My recollections were that he turned to all four sides of the ground and applauded everyone, the majority of Leicester fans had got the serious arse that day because of the dreadful mistake by Wheale that was to ultimately cost us all three points on the day.

My recollection is that he acknowledged the Derby fans before his half hearted clap to us but yeah Weale hardly helped the mood
