LCFC BEAST Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 IMO I think that he's still worth keeping. King, Wellens, Danns, Moussa are all attack minded where as Oakley is a good cover for Abe. End of last season he played some blinders for us and was our best player versus Palace and Forest. The Hargreaves saga seems as if he is going to West Brom and even if he does come he is still prone to injuries meaning not a suitable cover for Abe. He has been a good servant to the club even with the stick the fans have always given him but you have to remember as a CM, Megson, Holloway and Pearson used to play him RM and you can't expect him to play brilliantly out of position. He plays better sitting in front of the back four than running the wings and it even said on the OS that he was the best in the bleep test by far which shows his desire to stay fit and fight for his place at the club. If he stays brilliant, know need in wasting money on ANOTHER midfielder. If he goes, all the best to him. Great player, great attitude and all the best to him in the future.
Kent Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 I'd actually like us to keep him to be honest to at least set a good example to the younger lads if nothing else. Seems to be a model professional.

artursteppe Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 I've always liked him, better attitude than most in the squad, and he certainly doesn't deserve some of the sh1t he's getting from many in this thread.
absolutelegend Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 he certainly doesn't deserve some of the sh1t he's getting from many in this thread. very true
gazfox9 Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 Goodbye. No loss at all for me, quite the opposite as it will be another player off the wage bill, freeing up funds for players who'll make a difference.
Wherethefoxhat? Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 People forget he's been a decent servant to this club. He may have not always played particularly well, especially in the latter part of him being here. People can be very harsh. He's done alright for us in his time here in my view. .......as all LCFC fans with the slightest amount of sense and decency would agree !!! Unfortunately ......the dregs and tosspots don't have any of either ....and there's loads of them on this forum !!!!
acooling08 Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 If we can get a fee of £250'000+ then I'd sell. If they aren't prepared to pay then keep him as an old head for the younger players or a potential coach at a later date.
ScouseFox Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 Am I in here with the first "keep him just to piss Derby off" plan?
Guest shearfox Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 Oakley can still do a job for a lower championship side like derby, I wouldn't have a problem if he was to stay but he wouldn't get too many games here.
Al-aLondon-Foxile Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 I just wanted to say that I hate the term 'servant to the club'. Back in the old days this statement may have had some credence but not anymore. The likes of Matt Oakley may well have served the club well for the thousands of pounds they've been paid per week + bonuses, but that hardly makes them martyrs to out course, or indeed servants. Rant over. Cya Matt, and thanks for your efforts with us.
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 I doubt we will get a penny for him as he himself has said that it will probably be his last season.
Bayfox Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 As our squad stands I wouldn't be that bothered to see him go. However, I do wish ppl would take off their blinkers occasionally, Matt Oakley is a model pro who could teach the youngsters a thing or 2, he stayed when we went down and helped us go up, he even chipped in with a few goals that season as well. It seems anyone who signs from a local club is instantly disliked, had the same thing with Gareth Williams, I reckon Gary Mills was the last player to gain acceptance from our Fans. As for those slagging Derby fans for Bumming him, What like half our fans love Emile yet dispite all this talk of wanting to finish his career with us, at what point has he really showed he'd like to make that happen.
Guest Col city fan Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 Anything but a warm round of applause would be slightly odd IMO. This....
Guest Col city fan Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 I'd actually like us to keep him to be honest to at least set a good example to the younger lads if nothing else. Seems to be a model professional. Before his run in the side towards the end of last season I'd have let him go gladly However, he was consistently the best midfield man in the team at the arse end of last season and I reckon has got one more good season left in him.. Sounds like a done deal, if not, I'd keep him
lcfc_amie Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 Jason Bourne BBC Radio Derby's Colin Bloomfield says: "Derby say there's been no approach for Matt Oakley."
Wherethefoxhat? Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 If he does go to Dierby I wonder what type of reception he will receive at the Walkers on October 1st 2011, will he be vilified in Savagesque manner
The People's Hero Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 Wearthefoxhat would be better. If I had a fox hat, I'd wear it morning, noon and night.
