Happy Fox Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 I wouldn't boo him, i'd probably give him a clap as he helped us get out of league 1! I would clap him as well I am just worried that some fans won't appreciate what he did for us, and just treat him like shit for playing for a rival team having left us
Haydos Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 Exactly, it's not like he's leaving for more money or anything.. he would hardly play this season if he stayed and he's no spring chicken! Warm round of applause would be fine. Oh, who's that lady in your profile picture? USA goalie by any chance? Even leaving for more money wouldn't be a problem. It's football, I don't buy into all this loyalty crap, if they say thank you to the club but they've received a better offer elsewhere then fair enough. He doesn't deserve booing by any means but I'm sure there'll be a fair few simpletons that do, god help them. Hope Solo Great name, great smile!

I'd be more than happy if he did leave, i'd rather see him playing regular football elsewhere than warming the bench at the King Power (oh, I hate saying that!) Ooooo!! Hope Solo, that's the name I was looking for, what a babe!!

General Smuts Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 tried hard, showed good experience and leadership... but the right time to move on. All the Best , Matt Bang on. Shame he were pants most of the time but he can be safe in the knowledge he was always better than Stephen Clemence. Enter Matt Mills I'd rather enter his missus.

Lillehamring Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 make sense, i really don't wish to see him play for us in front of the other options we have. he wasn't good enough last season, and even his 'good' games towards the end were games we struggled in, it was no coincidence that his replacing Abe marked the downturn in our results - not the only factor but surely significant. i wish him luck tho, but time to move on, because the club certainly has...
Charl91 Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 He had some good games towards the end of the season. Some good goal-line clearances and an awesome goal vs Forest. Maybe not what we would have needed to mount a promotion push, but good back up. I wish him well <3
leicesterisme Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 If it is true which obviously it must be for Sky Sports to report it then good luck to Matt and I hope he does well at Derby, although not at our expense. Don't really understand the hate on him though, he's been a great servant to our club. Just because he clapped to Derby fans he's regarded as a sheep shagger amongst some fans.
sdb Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 If this happens then NRC becomes a more interesting proposition. We learnt 4 central midfielders in a sqaud aren't enough last season (if playing 4-3-3). Personally I thought Oakley was a good player to have as 5th choice, he'd come in and do a job when required.
Lcfclee Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 Let's face it when he signed he was supposedly our answer to Neil Lennon he never really impressed me now I'm not saying he was shite but from what I saw of the player at Southampton and the player here .... Well he never really showed up as 1 of the passionate types did he
ScouseFox Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 He's decent enough back up, if he doesn't want to be 5th or so choice, and Derby love him like it seems, and we get a fee, and a better option coming in, I can't see who loses. Good luck Matt.
PeterTaylorsApprentice Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 Good luck to him, always gave his best, didn't seem to be liked by many city fans.
cc_star Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 We're supposed to be building a capable squad, players who may look on the fringe now, will be needed... there's plenty of deadwood to get rid of but players like Oakley will be needed, its a long, very hard season Plus we've heard loads from the club about what a positive influence he is off the field too
Happy Fox Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 Good luck to him, always gave his best, didn't seem to be liked by many city fans. I don't know but I just cannot seem to like the guy it's his personality that bugs me and the fact that he is a messiah amongst the sheep
I am Rod Hull Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 People forget he's been a decent servant to this club. He may have not always played particularly well, especially in the latter part of him being here. People can be very harsh. He's done alright for us in his time here in my view. Agreed.. I cant believe some of the crap that some so called "fans" come out with...
J.Lisemore Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 Got us out of League One. Hes shit now, but good luck to him.
Happy Fox Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 Agreed.. I cant believe some of the crap that some so called "fans" come out with... Oakley is a sheepshagger you have just got to hate him do you concur
leicesterisme Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 I don't know but I just cannot seem to like the guy it's his personality that bugs me and the fact that he is a messiah amongst the sheep Sorry but that's stupid. I'm guessing you've never met him? He seems a really nice genuine guy, he's also a great professional (Coming first in the pre-season bleep test shows that) Also it's not his fault that Derby fans respect him so highly for leading their team to the Premiership.

I was being sarcastic
Staff Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 not his biggest fan tbh,but i would rather have him here for this season.just for his experience and the extra depth to the squad.i understand he is pretty far down the pecking order, but he will definately be needed if we get an injury
leicesterisme Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 Oh, haha. Thats what you get for not reading the thread fully!!
Leicester_Loyal Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 Thanks for the service Oakley, your a decent player, probably won't be able to play 50 games a season, but you'll manager just about half of them. Your not as crap as everyone makes out, but you'll be right at the bottom of the pecking order this season now. Its been a pleasure having you at this club. Goodbye.
Heskey2011 Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 Sorry but that's stupid. I'm guessing you've never met him? He seems a really nice genuine guy, he's also a great professional (Coming first in the pre-season bleep test shows that) Also it's not his fault that Derby fans respect him so highly for leading their team to the Premiership. Shows that he can run, but he doesn't want to in a city shirt, One of the main reasons (imo) why we went into the 3rd tier was his lack of effort and leadership when we have needed it most, the manager then the captain have to take the lion share of responsibility. Just because someone has been at the club a reativley long time doesn't equate to a player automatically being someone i should support, espicially when he's on the verge of leaving for one of our biggest rivals. I won't be booing if he does return in a derby shirt anymore than if it was a derby team without him. (unless he does an adebayor esq celebration after scoring and then i'll be searching my pockets for quids) - not really before people get offended, i'm honestly not a yob or hooligan.
funkyrobot Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 I think derby are gonna struggle this year. If I were them I'd be about as enthusiastic about Oakley signing as I was when Pearson gave Ajdarevic a years contract
