Jakemoore Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 He's been good for us I think....a real fighter who puts in 100% effort and would die for his team mates, having said that, he won't get many games with us so it will be in his best interest to move on; however Derby is just about as bad as he could get!
JohnnyB Posted 19 July 2011 Posted 19 July 2011 The Derby Telegraph are reporting that there has been no contact between the clubs about Oakley. OAKLEY: 'NO CONTACT' Tuesday, July 19, 2011 Derby Telegraph Follow.DERBY County say they have had no contact with Matt Oakley despite reports that they are in talks with the Leicester City midfielder about a return to Pride Park. Oakley captained Derby to promotion in 2006-7 and the Rams have been alerted that the 33-year-old might be available. They are looking to sign an experienced midfielder and Watford's John Eustace is their top target. Oakley could be an option if the Rams fail to land Eustace. Oakley spent 17 months at Derby before he was sold to Leicester in January 2008.
LestaFox92 Posted 19 July 2011 Posted 19 July 2011 Am I in here with the first "keep him just to piss Derby off" plan? That plus he seems like a good head in a dressing room when things aren't going to plan.
ithuriel Posted 19 July 2011 Posted 19 July 2011 Did his best while he was here, can't complain if he want's to stay in the midlands and we are moving him on because the squad needs trimming. Best of luck to him but not of course to Derby
Bezzanator89 Posted 19 July 2011 Posted 19 July 2011 There'll be no Savage-esque reception, he's done well. I say best of luck to the lad, helped us get out of League One.

Kilworthfox Posted 19 July 2011 Posted 19 July 2011 Oakley has never been anything special. Peopel can go on about nice guy or loyal, but its all a load of crap. He like 99% of pro sports people is loyal to his paycheck, & I don't blame him. As a player Oakley never pulled up any trees at LCFC, I can say he looked committed in the odd challenge, but that has been outweighed by lacklustre performances especially in the championship, where midfield dominence is very important, Oakley finds himself more often than not beaten by a younger more tenacious midfielder. LCFC are hopefully moving in a different direction to Oakley, Were off up the table & Matt might be off to derby

lcfcadam Posted 19 July 2011 Posted 19 July 2011 Don't ask me why I was looking at this, but what a little gem of a quote: Reading backed off in midfield and allowed Matthew Oakley, who on some days plays like the Xavi of the Championship, to dictate the game. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/apr/16/reading-leicester-championship

A little OTT don't you think? Probably a nice bloke and did ok for us but nothing more than that. At a time when the wage bill is going through the roof, it would be good to get 1 or 2 off it

Bezzanator89 Posted 19 July 2011 Posted 19 July 2011 Not quite as kind to vassell! Darius Vassell, once of England and Manchester City, should have given Leicester a lifeline three minutes just after the break, but he volleyed over from close range. Some things never change. Ouch.
iBleedLeicesterColours Posted 19 July 2011 Posted 19 July 2011 Always been a good servant to the club. Often made scapegoat when we haven't done well. Outstanding in League One for us, and put in some decent shifts at Championship level too. Actually quite like Oakley and would be sad to see him go. I must say though, now 33, fringe player for us. Shows Derby's ambition ..

Tinman Posted 19 July 2011 Posted 19 July 2011 Some things never change. What bit of this dont you understand? "DERBY County say they have had no contact with Matt Oakley despite reports that they are in talks with the Leicester City midfielder about a return to Pride Park".
Happy Fox Posted 19 July 2011 Posted 19 July 2011 What bit of this dont you understand? When in denial it means that it is likely, enjoy the return of the shepherd to guide your flock of sheep to mid table mediocrity
I am Rod Hull Posted 19 July 2011 Posted 19 July 2011 What bit of this dont you understand? "DERBY County say they have had no contact with Matt Oakley despite reports that they are in talks with the Leicester City midfielder about a return to Pride Park". Would YOU welcome him back though ?
Blinking Blue Owl Posted 19 July 2011 Posted 19 July 2011 Christ they have put up with that burnt out old has been Savage for long enough they should welcome with open arms another of ours who stayed up way past his bed time . all together now DERBY ARE GOING NOWHERE !
Simo86 Posted 20 July 2011 Posted 20 July 2011 Savage gave more to Leicester than Oakley. Savage also kissed the Birmingham badge when he played against us! Grade A clown!
