Amy Winehouse RIP

I can see where you are coming from, because she did actually do it to herself. But she has lost her life now, and in my opinion, it should not be compared.

it's not really comparing , it's just saying that the likes lcfc stu and myself are not going to shed crocodile tears over some celeb that overdoses on drink and drugs .

if she was an old waster on the streets of leicester who had done the same , i'm fairly sure you wouldn't give it a second thought

( pardon my assumptions on this ) but because she was a celeb we're all expected to be star sucking mourners

but i still respect your opinion if it's different to mine and stu's

I'm probably going to get a few rolled eyes for this but this thread really is depressing reading from some. About time she's dead, hope Doherty is next etc etc. Bullshit. And this isn't a bleeding heart liberal reaction, I do have less sympathy for her than the murdered in Oslo or a cancer victim who did nothing to bring about their own death. It is however, still the same for their loved ones who didn't ask to watch their loved one commit a slow and inevitable suicide.

Save your ire for the evil cunts who push this disgusting shit on thousands upon thousands of people, wrecking millions of lives around the world in the process. It's all well and good condemning those who take the stuff but imagine being close to somebody who self-destructs in this way, imagine what you'd want to do to the person helping them hit that self-destruct purely to service their own greed.

What all addicts are in the end are victims. Victims of their own stupidity in part but mainly victims of a trade that profits from suffering.

A lost life is the same as another. Any lost life is a tragedy, and should not be compared to others. Have some respect. She was an amazing music artist. A death should not be compared.

Okay.

Saddam Hussain dying vs Mother Theresa.

Or how about, a child in the Sudan dying of starvation against some kid smacked out of their head having robbed your gran, but they drove the getaway car into a brick wall?

Or Bambi's mum against Megatron?

Not so clear cut now?

This is what I was trying to say, just not as well.

That's just taking it out of proportion. You know what I mean. Bilo made an extremely good point about she is the victim of a sick trade of money making. She got sucked in and made mistakes, but that doesn't mean she should be shrugged off. My opinion of course. I respect yours, so please don't try and post back in a mockery fashion.

It's not out of proportion. I was using hyperbole to make a point. Some deaths are more tragic than others. I agree that it is a wasted talent, though in many respects the drugs had killed any talent she had years ago. In the end what she did was entirely self-inflicted - and from a certain perspective I can see how that might be seen as MORE tragic - but it wasn't like her friends, her fans and the media had warned her what she was doing.

I don't hate her or anything - but I do think that she was very selfish and that, to me, lessens the tragedy. She knew the consequences.

Celebrity deaths.. Hyper inflated.. Sad but expected..

My thoughts go out to her family..

27.. What a waste..

Yes......it's the family who are left to grieve unfortunately !! Terrible for them that their daughter ended up such a tragic mess !!!

There's a lot of good sense in what you say ( as always ) but as far as i'm aware no-one forces them to take it .

try this analogy

What you are saying is , blame the prostitute( the pusher ) and totally absolve the man who

hires a prostitute ( the user ) for the user's downfall because he's a victim of his addiction

again, i respect your and everyone else's opinion , i just don't agree with your sentiments

So you're saying that without the demand then nobody would supply?

that's about it , yes

i wish i could be as concise as you sometimes Trav :)

Everyone is responsible for their own actions. There may be social factors involved that interfere with your choices but ultimately you have to eventually bite the bullet.

A different instance in some ways, but the same in another.

The man paying for sex is an idiot for keeping the sex trade going but in this case the woman is most likely a victim of either the drugs trade or of sex trafficking and sexual slavery, so in this instance you blame someone higher in the scum food chain.

The pimp, the trafficker and the prostitute's drug dealer for example. If none of these three people existed, there most probably wouldn't be a prostitute and a user to worry about.

Nobody forces them to take it of course, and there can be no sympathy initially for anyone daft enough to start the cycle of addiction but human beings are weak, some more than others. We're always looking for that which we enjoy be it beer, ciggies or anything else that takes our fancy. You go looking for something harder then you are asking for trouble, but that does not in any way absolve the dealer.

It's not so different really , the person who first starts using the drugs / drink etc and the person that starts using the prostitutes are probably both a combination of weak and/ or stupid personalities that spiral into despair depending on their character ( and i take your point that the prostitute maybe a victim too, but not always, and the pusher may claim to be a victim of his circumstances too )

i just can't see this necessity to sob and blub over the death of some addict of any addiction or some perceived "tragic lifestyle "

i will stress again this is just my opinion and i don't mind if anyone does want to sob uncontrollably over her death

but i hope the likes of trav , stu and myself can have opinions of our own and remain untouched by this " tragedy "

I'm sure there are plenty of young female junkies that die every day due to drug abuse (assuming that id what's killed her). She's just another one that happens to be able to sing. Sorry to be unsympathetic but the hypocrisy from all the RIP messages are cringy.

It's not a matter of force though is it? Starts with peer pressure, in Amy's case, Blake whatshisname, allegedly; after that it's pure addiction.

Put it another way, how many of you are parents of teenagers? Who of you will blame the child if they start taking drugs? The people responsible are the pushers and the friends of the person who told them it was cool.

Nope and that's fair enough. Personally I feel little sympathy for Winehouse herself here, she was obviously a weak and selfish person who had the opportunities to kick her habit most junkies determined to kick the habit would kill for and squandered them. I feel much more sympathy for those who loved and cared for her with all they were forced to go through.

I respect your opinion completely because you've steered clear of the 'glad she's dead because she was a waste of space' stuff which was more than a little immoderate as I feel that directs the hate in the wrong direction.

yes she was a talented singer but it is not hard to say no unless someone is holding her down and forcing her to do drugs. we all go on about she was the victim and we should sympathise with her but the drug taking was her choice.

If i decided to take a shortcut to work across railway lines and do this everyday for 3 years and then suddenly get killed by an oncoming train it is MY fault for doing so.

The only people who deserve any sympathy are the relatives of Amy Winehouse who had to put up with her drug taking for years.

RANT OVER

yes indeed it does probably start with peer pressure , but so maybe does knife crime , burglary , racist hatred etc etc ,

i'm not trying to make light of it , but rather as foxy and trav have said , eventually the buck stops with the individual to stop the cycle

Basically , we are in danger becoming a society who first looks at blaming someone else for every thing bad in our lives before we consider our own part in the drama

again i'll stress it's just an opinion and i've had a couple of large "glenmorangies" before posting this so it may not be as understandable as i want it , so i'll bid you all , good night folks , hic :D:thumbup:

Ah the nectar of the gods truly beautifull drink. Altho i baught a bottle of it in Thurso in scotland and flying back the airline tried to charge me 20 quid to have it put on the plane the bottle only cost 27 quid.

So me and my brother drank most of it before we went on the plane slept like a baby all the way home lol
