Why is it when an artist/musician dies, people start becoming a fan when they never were before?

I'm seeing loads of friends on Facebook "liking" her page now all of a sudden. It bewilders me that now she's dead why they didn't like her when she was still here.

i only like her now cuz i've just realised how much she looked like a gippo ( both in the "before and after" druggy stages )

It always happens, when MJ died, all of a sudden I was surrounded by MJ's biggest fans everywhere. I guess it's "fashionable" to like someone when they die <_<

Michael Jackson was a prime example of this!

It's no longer enough to simply say "oh dear, that's a shame".

Media has foisted upon society the need to openly demonstrate grief to absurd degrees, hence the sadsacks placing bottles of vodka outside her flat.

It reminds me of the Bill Hicks sketch about Jesus & crucifixes.

And tobacco

Do all people who lead less than a perfect live deserve to die

Think how much the nhs would save if we simply shot fatties with heart disease, smokers with cancer, people with melamoma who hadn't used the proper SPF etc

I'd vote for that.

I have to cycle past her house every day on the way to work. I swear today it's added about ten minutes onto my commute. I did some good aggressive bell ringing as I ploughed through people standing in the road. 'KOKOPOPS DON'T STOP FOR NO MAN!

Seems a bit inappropriate given she was a raving alcoholic.

Why not just empty the sharps bin from St. Guy's on her front lawn and have done with it?

given the pictures on beeb news earlier showed lighters & needles next to the bottles of vodka, I'd say they've already started on that.

'people placing bottles of vodka outside her flat' bloody wish I lived nearby!

I live about five minutes bike ride (or 15 minutes walk) away. When I mentioned about the vodka the first thing he mentioned was a trip down there lol

What I don't get is why sales of her music have gone up. I find it exciting and bizarre that there is a group of people that didn't buy her records when she was number one in the charts, or when she won loads of awards, or when they were being played on the radio ALL THE TIME, or when she was in all the shit newspapers all the time, but when she's found dead they suddenly go, I know, I'll go down Tesco and get 'Back to Black'.

Mind you, when Bernard Matthews died I ate so many Turkey Twizzlers I needed to have a heart bypass, and when Rod Hull got killed I watched the Pink Windmill Show until my eyes bled and I didn't even know who he was, so who am I to slag these people off
