accessory Posted 14 August 2011 Posted 14 August 2011 Quality game on Sky Sports 1 right now. Both sides are producing football way above anything seen in the Premier League this weekend. Real should be 2 or 3 up, but wonder saves by Valdes and quality finishes by Villa and Messi (who else?) mean Barca are 2-1 up at half-time. Plenty of twists and turns to come, especially as there's a 2nd leg at Camp Nou on Wednesday. On this evidence, I can't see the Champions League leaving Spain this season..
accessory Posted 18 August 2011 Author Posted 18 August 2011 Mourinho rages at Barca victory On one level, he sounds dangerously unhinged. Barcelona are clearly anything but a "small" club. But behind this rant is a passionate manager who absolutely loathes and despises the very thought of defeat. This is why he's so successful and admired throughout Europe. Other managers take note.. Meanwhile the Barca-Real soap opera looks like running for a few more episodes to come.
Haydos Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 Anyone else and you'd probably call him a brat, like a lot of people do. He's the epitome of doing what it takes to win and yet has a go at Barca for something as petty as the ball bay situation. You ARE being hypocritical Mr. Mourinho. Grow up and take a defeat like a man for once, you're dangerously close to Arsene Wenger territory.

Meanwhile the Barca-Real soap opera looks like running for a few more episodes to come. He didn't call them a small club. He said that 'disappearing ball boys' are tactics typically employed by 'small' clubs in difficulties. And I don't think anyone likes to lose, but would you prefer a hypocritical petulant kid throwing toys out of his pram to someone who knows how to be gracious in defeat? He constantly accuses Barca of cheating, but his own team is just as bad if not worse. It's always mystified me that his teams go a good bit over the line whenever they meet some decent resistance. I think he and Real are better than they are showing, and a lot of that comes down to conducting yourself with dignity.
Bob Farley Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 What a game it was last night, glad I'm only a neutral haha
Jaspa Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 It's all a stage act with Spanish footie Only 2 teams fully capable of winning anything, which has made them absurdly good. And the fact they played eachother four times in a row last year, and now as soon as we start up again two in a row. Carnt wait till the German League catches up with them star-wise
Matt Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 And that's why Fabregas moved. 1 game and already he's won more than he did in the last 6 years at Arsenal.

Grow up and take a defeat like a man for once, you're dangerously close to Arsene Wenger territory. As they say in the USA, show me a "good loser" and I'll show you a loser. The history of the Real-Barca rivalry, which goes way beyond football, and Mourinho's personal issues with Barca, mean that these clashes are always going to be extra-spicy, certainly for as long as he remains at the Bernabeu. Other coaches (and indeed players) would face a long ban for poking someone in the eye, but Mourinho was cunning enough to know that as certain elements of the Spanish FA are in Real's pocket, he would escape scot-free, and so it's proved. As long as he can continue to win trophies (something Wenger of course hasn't been able to do for a while) the powers-that-be at Real will tolerate him if not admire him. Despite (or maybe even because of) the histrionics, a Mourinho-led Real are the biggest (perhaps only) challengers to Barca, not only in La Liga but the Champions League too. Success on either front would effectively suppress any concerns at least among Real fans about the methods employed to secure it. Indeed it could be argued that Mourinho is acting in classic Real traditions. Not all of the nine European Cup victories were secured through footballing efforts alone. The culture of corruption that flourished under Franco (and, as we know, persisted in certain areas of Spain long after his death) also had an influence. But right now, Real need Mourinho as much as he needs them.
Ashley Posted 19 August 2011 Posted 19 August 2011 Its an honour to watch the football Barcelona play, it excites me. I think our English acadmies should be looking to adopt ronday(sp??) As Barcelona call it(passing and closing down football) to our game. Teach them young like they do in spain. Let the ball do the work.
accessory Posted 19 August 2011 Author Posted 19 August 2011 Spanish coaches focus on improving and developing children's technical abilities. British coaches (such as they are, most of them don't even have a certificate) focus on teaching children to hoof the ball as quickly and as often as possible. Unless and until the FA makes the journey from the 19th century to the 21st, the quality of Spanish football will continue to outshine ours.
21st Century Fox Posted 19 August 2011 Posted 19 August 2011 Did anyone else see Mourinho poke Tito Vilanova in the eye. Surreal.
