thought he was immense today. i have said on here before that sometimes he seems a liability to us, but today when he had to defend he did it correctly, no dribbling in his own area, if it needed a boot into row z thats what he did. his best game in a Leicester shirt so far?

Posted

He was excellent today but the only thing that worries me is that when hes attacking from a throw in it leaves us very vulnerable on the break purely because of his pace, and the lack of Mills' when players like makail-smith are running at him.

Sol was excellent yet again but this time Mills played very well too, maybe they are finally starting to get their act together, Konchesky played reasonably well and Peltier was very good, only Pantsil worried me by being to lax with the ball when he came on.

Bamba has real presence but today he seemed to show a bit of discipline too. First he did the job that was asked of him extraordinarily well given that it's a nightmare for anyone having to contain CSM which is emphasised by the fact that the striker still worked a couple of glorious chances even though Bamba beat him in every personal confrontation I can recall.

But once he won possession Bamba played the game responsibly instead of putting team-mates out of position by dribbling in the back third or being unpredictable.

If he carries on with that atttitude and level of concentration he can be immense and I'm convinced we can plunder a whole stack of goals using Bamba, Mills, King, Beckford and Nugent at set pieces once we sort the most effective approach to their attacking the box as a group.

There were signs of it today (minus Nugent of course) and one particular occasion when we perhaps would have scored if there'd been more understanding and communication. Once Beckford learns to win free kicks with the same artistry as Heskey the crowd will warm to this aspect, I'm sure! lol

Times Beckford was fouled but stayed on his feet and got absolutely no sympathy from the referee. Heskey on the other hand could have been a wrestler. He had falling down to perfection. Indeed the weight and touch of a floating feather would reduce his massive frame to a pile of crumpled misery and we're going to need such skills if we're going to continue getting the refereeing injustice we've had to cope with this season.

It's a sign of the times I guess when you appear to be actively encouraging a player to fall over like he's been shot and that this will encourage fans to warm to him. If that's the sort of football you like to see ie. A player 'learning' to go down properly rather than staying on his feet and trying to continue then I'm glad you never coached me. Your posts are usually spot on but this one leaves a bitter taste in the mouth. Well done jermaine for trying to keep going IMO.

Or have absolutely no clue what they are watching.

It's laughable sometimes.

I can honestly say I never coached anyone to take advantage of the laws. In fact quite the contrary, I would even lambast a player if he restorted to fouling someone deliberately because it suggested he wasn't good enough to win fairly and it actually mattered how we won as much as the winning itself.

There was no arguing with referees either, no wasting time, no gamesmanship of any kind. I never had a player sent off and In fact discouraged players from talking to referees at all because it disturbed the concentration and clan spirit I wanted to engender.

But it was clear to me yesterday that the referee had his own approach to officiating and it had sod-all to do with the rules as i could see. City player kicks the ball away - booking. Brighton player kicks the ball away - ignore it. Guidelines say play advantage - refereee blows his whistle and denies us a goal. Defender fouls striker - ignore it. Striker clouts defender - foul.

Hell there were times in the last quarter when it looked like our players were steeplechasing. Every time they came to a Brighton defender they had to try to jump over an outsretched leg.

In the end I'd have just said to Beckford don't even dare contrive something but if you are fouled don't be a hero, just make it plain you've been fouled and take what should be a free-kick. Perhaps then the referee will start opening his eyes and the opposition will stop fouling you.

Condemn him if you wish but I think that was MON's approach with Heskey. Players couldn't get at him so they clobbered him. MON's attitude was to make them pay with what we were entitled to and, yes, that was often to our advantage but it was still the opposition's fault for fouling him in the first place.

He did his job without the luxuries- no taking on players in his own box, just winning the ball and moving it on quickly.

Mackail-Smith couldn't get away from him for most of the game.

I loved after the game Stringer asked Peltier if he'd still got CMS in his pocket in the dressing room and Peltier said "he's got a whole bunch of strikers still in his pocket from the other games this season".

He been great and yesterday it looks like him and Mills are starting to understand each other. Also having Kasper at the back gives him a bit more of a safety net than last season.
