Why do people want to kill Neil Lennon?

Didnt realise how bad lennon has had it and thought this was a great readTHE GUARDIAN

For the past decade Celtic's bellicose manager has endured death threats and physical assaults. Sectarian prejudice could explain it, but some say he brings it upon himself. Kevin McKenna meets the most victimised man in football

Because is a total cock.

Leicester legend yes and one of the best midfielders I have seen for us, but his behaviour on the pitch towards people in Scotland and on the touchline since has been disgraceful.

Here he is giving some sectarian abuse out himself followed by spitting on a Rangers scarf on the way to a corner, very classy guy.

I'm sure it's more complex than that, certainly the article suggests that he didn't start or ask for all the antagonism.

I actually think (and this is incredible for someone born in Lurgan) he underestimated the hatred in Glasgow.

You can't turn up on either side, start calling people fenien/orange bastards, spitting on other clubs colours and expect to live it down. He seems to celebrate every single goal by goading the home fans as well. :dunno:

If i remember, when he was at Leicester, he got loads of abuse from the Northern Irish fans (they found out he was a fenian) when he turned out to play for them, which caused him to quit international football...

Maybe it stems from those days ?

If you read the article it suggests that the hatred for him started first before he ended up retaliating. MON came from NI and was never treated the same way.

I'm not defending him just feel it's more complex than something he did or said which is what your suggesting. Have you read the article?

Yes it was typically Guardian to be honest, one side of the story and quite boring by the end of it.

What I find bizarre is they have asked that question of "Why do they want to kill him?" and failed to mention the first 2/3 things every Rangers fan would say if you asked that question and both the incidents in the video I posted. They need to at least do some basic research if they want to find the answer.

I think it started due to religion and NI but he hasn't exactly helped himself.

This was my perception. We have to understand that he grew up in the midst of the troubles...

He seems not to have been told its over...

I have not witnessed a manager bring the game in to such disrepute and whip up such hostility. Of course you have the masters like Mourinho who play mind games with supporters but never deliberately flare up an already incredibly volatile situation like up in Scotland with the sectarian mindlessness. Lennon holds certain people with complete contempt and I remember hearing a radio interview that he gave where he stated that his hatred of people has fueled his depression.

The hatred began when Lennon signed for Celtic. There was little or no trouble in regards to him playing for Northern Ireland (his religion had always been known) until that point but because the loyalist scum couldn't have a Celtic player representing their six county shithole (thankfully things has changed immeasurably since).

Then his own actions at the Old Firm has further endeared him to the Gers' faithful.

It's a fucking joke regardless and the manner in which it has been accepted and normalised is a indictment on the Old Firm.

from the article :crylaugh:

At the end of last month a 26-year-old man admitted to Edinburgh's sheriff court that he had assaulted Lennon during a football match in the city in May between Heart of Midlothian and Celtic. The miscreant could hardly have pleaded otherwise; 16,000 spectators and millions more watching on TV had witnessed the incident. The perpetrator spoke of his remorse and told the court that he had written a letter of apology to Lennon. The jury, however, found that the assault charge was not proven and that he had merely been guilty of a breach of the peace. It is one of the few occasions in Scottish legal history when an individual is acquitted of a crime that he freely admitted carrying out. A joke rapidly emerged that Colonel Gaddafi had offered to surrender to Nato if he could be guaranteed a trial in Edinburgh.

Its not because he is a 'twat' or 'cock'. How can you say that when the man is a Leicester City legend? Part of the team that did so well under Martin which you may never see done again. Nowadays, people don't seem to agree with a manger or player being a character and showing a little bit of passion.

Lennon is from Northen Ireland were the majority of people are protistant I think, but Lennon is Catholic - or something like that. And this is why, he gets death threats mainly. Remember, retired early from International Football because he was constantly threatened. Its not just him though, that Paddy McCourt also gets threatened because of the same reason.

Their religion is a side issue - they play(ed) for Northern Ireland and Celtic and in some people's eyes that is a transgression of the highest order.

Show me footage where Lennon poked an opposing coach in the eye, like Mourinho did.

Lennon is right to hold certain people in contempt as they're bigoted scumbags who think they are entitled to success because they're white and Protestant. Unfortunately for him, such lowlife still have influence within the Scottish media. Hence the poisonous articles which appear before every Old Firm game and incite the death threats against Lennon and his family.

It's also sad to see that some posters on here seem to have a greater affinity towards Rangers than they do towards Leicester. Lennon does not deserve the abuse that some on here have given him.

But whether he is sufficiently experienced to meet the challenges that all Celtic managers face is an issue the article dodges. Celtic have been woeful in Europe during his time in charge, and last season threw away a league title that was theirs for the taking in the closing weeks.

Another failed title bid, and Lennon's time at Celtic Park will be brought to a close. He won't have to worry about the haters any more. As Mourinho may soon also discover, failure brings contempt rather than provokes antagonism.

It is because he's a twat, as good a player as he was for us, he is still a nob.

Since he moved north of the border he's brought a lot of stuff on himself, maybe if he wound his neck in he wouldn't be hated so much.

I've read some shit on here at times but this is up there with anything.

White protestants think they are entitiled to success, this is fcuk all to do with religion when it comes to the abuse Lennon gets, very simple question for you, answer it. "Why is Lennon treated different by all Scottish fans to MON?"

Martin O'Neill did exactly the same, he played for Northern Ireland as a catholic and went on to manage Celtic (exactly the same as Lennon), he was spoken of highly by fans of both sides, both sides saw him as a gentlemen of the game and a lovely man, he never recieved Sectarian abuse from anybody, he was never attacked. You want to know why? Because MON wasn't a twat of the highest order, he didnt celebrate Celtics goals by goading all the home fans behind the dugout, he didnt refer to Rangers players as "orange bastards" He didnt mouth off round the east end pubs about Rangers, he didnt spit on Rangers merchandise in view of 50,000 people, do you really want me to go on? I'm quite disappointed in you to be honest, you come across as an intelligent man usually and then you come out with this tripe.

Scotland has it's problems but it's nothing to do with him being a Catholic, even the presbyterian lot in Cowdenbeath hold him in the same regard as everyone else. :giggle:

What articles are you talking about? Can you provide a few examples?

Can't say I think he's a twat, because I think he is a legend and would welcome him back to Leicester as a manger or coach.

He's always been getting abuse, even when he played in England so I don't think he has any other choice but to get on with it. I don't watch Scottish football that much, apart from Celtic/Rangers games, but I haven't seen on the news or whatver that he has caused anything, he just always gets abuse.

Yes it is. He used to get abuse when he played in England. He retired early from the national side because of the abuse he got.

Then why didn't MON get the same?

Simple question.
