Rincewind Posted 9 October 2011 Posted 9 October 2011 Had this come through as a job alert in an Email. No company name is given. Packing and checking shoes for dispatch. must have an eye for detail and be prepared to work on their feet all day. other duties will include checking deliveries off and general warehouse maintanance. hours are 10am to 6pm monday to friday with 1 hour lunch break pay = £150 per week Preferably someone who lives nearby or who has a car to travel to work. Please send your cv if you think you are suitable
Raw Dykes Posted 9 October 2011 Posted 9 October 2011 That's got to be illegal. Even on minimum wage, you'd get around £200 a week after tax for full-time work.
Salieri Posted 9 October 2011 Posted 9 October 2011 Should be taking home around £190 per week for 35 hrs per wk on minimum wage.
leicesterseddon Posted 9 October 2011 Posted 9 October 2011 Minimum wage: £4.98 - the 18-20 rate (£174.30 for 35-hour week) £3.68 - the 16-17 rate for workers above school leaving age but under 18 (£128.80 for 35-hour week) So depends how old you are really. Also if you're still of compulsory school age (i.e. 16 or under) you aren't entitled to MW anyway I don't think. Also it doesn't say on the email if that's gross or net pay - sounds like gross though as it's such a rounded figure. If you're over 18 though, it def. sounds illegal though.
somebum Posted 9 October 2011 Posted 9 October 2011 Probably some dodgy Indian factory somewhere, in the words of Prince Phillip. Apparently all those out of work for 12 months or more at the beginning of next year MUST take a 40 hour a week job with NO PAY to receive their benefits. Don't quote me on this as somebody I know was told this so it's 2nd hand info. Wouldn't surprise me with this Tory gov though.

Rincewind Posted 9 October 2011 Author Posted 9 October 2011 When you click to reply it goes to a reply page and there is a warning about checking companies out before you answer ads. I thought about reply telling them its illegal then thought I wouldnt know what would come back after giving them my email address Company name here. www.gumtree.com • 8 Oct 2011 Thats the site they advertised on but the alert was from rapido. They do not give the company name thats advertising. I'm not bothered as I wasnt going to apply anyway. Just wondered how it got through the site that take them on. Their credentials must be checked before taking them on. Just read the terms and conditions. Jobrapido are just a website where other agencies post and accept no responsibilities for salaries etc. So you reply to it and dont know who or where you are replying to

dave the caveman Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 Obviously a cash in hand job. Suitable for dodgy immigrants and ex-cons. But a job is a job, you can't afford to be picky, unless you're one of those people who actually can afford to be picky because they get paid so much in benefits.

The Doctor Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 Sadly, that's not true. Sadly? so you think for people to receive benefits we should force them to work with no pay? What purpose would benefits have then?
z-layrex Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 Sadly? so you think for people to receive benefits we should force them to work with no pay? What purpose would benefits have then? I have no idea, just doing a bit of afternoon trolling before I wash the car. :sge:

They wouldn't be working for free though, would they? They would essentially be working for money, just like the rest of us. The purpose of benefits is not to reward people for doing nothing.

The purpose of benefits is not to reward people for doing nothing. No, it's to support those who can't afford living costs for what ever reason (Disability, serious illness etc.) If you have them working a 40 hour week then there is no point in having benefits, they might as well just take home the basic pay from that job. That idea just stinks of Cameron's cronies in big business looking for a new form of cheap labour.
FoxyPV Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 The minimum wage isn't a living wage. There's at least £2 an hour difference between the two.
Webbo Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 People are paid on the basis of what they're worth, not what they need.If you put up the wages of someone in a supermarket by a third then the price of food will rise by a large percentage too making the rest of us poorer. If you put council workers on the minimum wage, wages up by £2. an hour all our council taxes will go up massively. If some factory worker doing a menial job has a large payrise then the price of the goods that that factory makes will become more expensive meaning demand will go down which will lead to lower/no profits which could mean moving jobs abroad. All these things are patently obvious, why do people pretend that we can all earn a fortune and no consequences will occur?
Rincewind Posted 11 October 2011 Author Posted 11 October 2011 You tried to apply then? I had no intention of applying. I wanted to know who was advertising so they could be reported for breaking the law. But there is no clue as to who thewy are and the site where they put the ad on take no responsibility for the content of the ad. I have applied for jobs working half the hours where I would earn the same. Why should I work my bollocks off for a wages that doesnt even cover the basic bills? Employers know that some people are desperate and basically are taking the piss.

I'm not saying that there won't be consequences but earning £7/8 per hour is hardly a fortune. Redistribution of wealth is the key
