Sidibe Transfer Was Close...

Sidibe was probably promised a first team place from the off by Pulis.  IF (and I'm not convinced) Levein wanted him, he wouldn't have been able to make the same promise.

Levein has three experienced strikers that he rates highly (love them or hate them) and Big Mama probably didn't fancy being on the bench. Therefore, he chooses Stoke.

Spot on.

isnt it a good sign... we didnt no any thing about this till he announced it.. That means levein isnt just sitting back and waiting.. he is quietly trying to get players... for all we know Danny Webber could be taking a medical at the ground now (doubt it but lol) .. i think we will see something happen in the next few weeks :)

I would sooner he didn't sign players if they are going to be of Sidibes quality, give youngsters a go instead.

Nowhere near as bad as 1 in 10 though - Have you seen Sidibe play?

Dickov was still fans favorite at Man City though and he a far better goals to games ratio than Sidibe.

Shocked and stunned a) we were linked with the gangly load of pants and B) Stoke won him!

An average player in a relegated outfit? Suck a lemon you dick washers.

A lot of you are moaning about his goals to game ratio but when we were linked to Forster a lot of you said he's too old, you wouldn't want him and his goals to games average one every 2.5 games. We have to either take a gamble on a raw young striker to work with and improve or you take an older striker who's record is good but might not be around for much longer. I'm much more happy to be linked with Sidibe than I was when we signed Nathan Blake.

I'd rather have Nathan Blake thank you, and that is saying something! At least Blake has scored goals in his career...

If we are resorting to being intrested in players like Mamady Sidibe then something is seriously wrong. We should not even be considering signing people like him even if we are desperate for goals. Surely Louis Dodds / Chris O Grady and even Tommy Wright have more to offer than Sidibe. Jesus.

Lets put things into perspective, for one, from the comments made by Pulis it only says we showed an interest, which could have just been a tentitive enquiry about the player it doesnt mean we made a serious bid or offer to the player. Secondly maybe Pulis is playing a bit of spin to convince his own supporters that this guy isnt a bad signing and therefore has stated our interest to prove other teams were interested or thirdly we used as a smokescreen by Sidibe's agent to hurry a deal through with Stoke and maximise his wage.

But why are we worrying, we havent signed him and it seems to me the club have been pretty open and honest if a bid for a player has been unsuccessful like Scott Robertson for example, IMO we were never a serious contender for Sidibe.

The point is, why would we even show a slight interest in someone cack like Sidibe? Thank frig we weren't in contention, but it's not promising.

What type of striker would you like us to sign? Give a specific name if you want? Don't just say one that's scored goals at other clubs and at this level because Nicky Forster has but I'm pretty sure you were one of the people that turned their noses up at him because of his age.

A striker with pace, as we currently don't have that in the squad.

If someone like Ricardo Fuller was available and injury free, he would be a fantastic purchase - Someone with pace, strength and skill.

As for Nicky Forster - I wasn't keen on him, but it wasn't just because of his age - Look back at my posts and you'll see my reasons behind not wanting him...

To be fair, Connolly isn't a snail. At times I think he doesn't use the pace he has wisely though. He chases after the wrong balls or into the wrong areas. If he could use his pace more intelligently he could cause defenders many more problems. His timing isn't the best either. He's caught offside a lot. Maybe it's too late for him to improve upon this or maybe he just needs to create a better understanding between a strike partner but I think he has the pace if not a footballing brain.

I feel we lack someone who has a real goalscoring instinct. Sidibe is not that player admittedley but I don't think we're going to be able to sign a player like that. We might have to pick up a younger striker that is more impressionable and can still learn things or promote one of the academy strikers to the first team squad. I realise people seem unsure about Chris O'Grady but he looked much better than Tommy Wright towards the back end of last season. They also seem to be putting him forward as one of the 'talented three' in club publications. Stearman, Sheehan and O'Grady seem to be tipped as the youngsters that will come through for the senior squad next season.

Good decision Sidibe:

Tony Pulis has vacated his position as manager of Stoke City.

Pulis took the reins at The Britannia Stadium in November 2002, replacing Steve Cotterill, and after a season of consolidation he guided The Potters to mid-table finishes in each of the last two seasons in The Championship.

Along with director of football John Rudge, Pulis had set about strengthening the squad this summer and the Welshman's departure come as a surprise.

Rumour has it, the reason they've got rid of him is because of his inability to sign foreign players! So what's Sidibe then? A Local Stoke On Trenter?? :D

I knew it. All a bit of smokescreen before CL pulls back the curtains to reveal the star prizes. I hope.

A bit odd that Pulis is off. Maybe it went as follows:

Stoke chairman: You've done WHAT!!!???

Tony Pulis: I've just signed Sidibe on a 3-year contract.

Stoke chairman: Never darken our doors again.

Stoke chairman & Alan Sugar: You're fired!

Rumour has it, he's had his contract cancelled with Stoke and his agent is trying to tie up a deal with us or Leeds!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGHHHHHHH
