Pulis reveals Foxes link

Stoke boss Tony Pulis has claimed the Potters beat off competition from Leicester to net new signing Mamady Sidibe.

The 25-year-old has signed a two-year deal at The Britannia Stadium and Pulis has told the Mali international he hopes to add another two strikers to his attack before the start of the new season.

Pulis said: "There was interest from Leicester and Gillingham actually offered him more money to stay but he chose Stoke City because he likes the feel of the place and he really wants to do well here.

"I'm not looking for him to come straight into the side as our main striker and he knows that. He knows I'm still looking for another couple of forwards with more experience."

Pulis added: "His attitude is fantastic. He came here for two days and had a good look around before signing. He was very, very keen to come."

Anyone think he would have been a good signing? i dont really know much of him.

Thank **** for that! He's awful, his goals scoring record is disgraceful.

I'm feeling quite pleased we haven't signed a striker yet after been heavily linked with wankers like Forster and Sidibe. Jesus christ has Levein lost the plot? If he thinks that duffer is the answer to all our prayers then he's having a bubble.

These links could just be smokescreen. A lot of contracts will be up at the end of this month. Maybe the club are just throwing people off the scent before 1st July?

Let's hope the club hasn't run out of ideas for a striker. It would be good to see something positive soon though.

Why would Pulis claim we were after Sidibe if it wasn't true? He's already signed him, so you wouldn't say that unless it was true?

I'm horrified we were interested in him and it perhaps shows how bad our situation is if that's all we can try and sign!

To show what a big Club we are. :D:D:thumbup:;)

This is worrying, if this is the type of strikers we're trying to sign. BORING and DESPERATE.

Doesn't say we were trying to sign him, just that there was interest ;)

Well it would be nice to be interested in players that we can actually get excited about. Mamamy Sidide from Gillingham?!?! This Summer has been horrible so far, the signings Levein made towards the end of last season were quality players that he told us he was going to bring in, it was looking so promising.

Now he obviously can't find any, so we're after below average strikers from relegated Gillingham.

I wouldn't worry too much about the Sidide report. I have faith in Levein to buy quality, although it is rather frustrating at this time of year.

Tony Pulis might be sounding and feeling smug but if he's "not looking for him (Sibide) to come straight into the side" then its hardly an adrenelin-pumping move and, far from preferring Stoke, he might just have figured out that he'd got more chance of some action there than competing against even the likes of what we have at present up front, namely MDV, Connolly and Dublin.

He might not be the greatest striker but there's nothing wrong with his thinking, :D

Meanwhile you all have every right to wonder why Levein even apparently contemplated signing the lad...

Might have been a bit of a smokescreen, of course, or the Boss might have spotted a genuine striker just bursting to get out when in the company of better players.

But, one thing's for sure. We don't want another striker just for the sake of it or because the people we've got have been less than convincing so far.

Indeed we don't want any signings in any position that aren't demonstrably better than we have right now or, if young enough, then potentially better by a distance.

We had enough dead wood in Adams' day to enjoy Bonfire Night every week. We don't want to be stacking the stuff up again.

Is he better than MDV? And i cant beleive that we lost out to Stoke! Anyway, lets hope Levien has got some other targets in mind.

Thank god we didn't sign him, but I hope Levein raises the bar a level or two with any new signings this summer. We can do better than Sidibe.

Surely we should be setting our sights higher than players like Sidibe, he is a average player in this division.

I'm worried.

But going on last season aren't we just an average team in this division too? Burnley, QPR, Stoke, Millwall and Preston finished above us.

I think some of us are worrying a bit too prematurley. Levein must see something in him and i think he can bring the best out of players. He did this with Connely at the end of last season and i think we saw improved performances throughout the squad since he came, bearing in mind it was MA's team. He used the resources he had well.

Yes on our performances last season we are but as a club we are not an average Championship side.

Also why should we aim to sign players who are mediocre in this division just because we were mediocre last season? We must push on and be ambitious or else we will become a permanant fixture in this division.

Forest as a club have won the European Cup twice but they're in League One now. As a club we're no longer in the Premiership and the way we're going to get back there is by taking a gamble on some lesser known players. Sidibe is in his mid 20s, is a striker who from what I remember can head a ball quite well and is hungry to play at the highest level. You can tell or he would've accepted Gillingham's offer of more money but played in League One. Instead he's accepted a lower offer to join Stoke who finished nearer to the playoffs than us last season.

Forest are a different matter because they have been in the second tier for a long time and their Premiership days are long gone, however we only got relegated just over a year a go so we should be aiming to get promoted and our signings should reflect that.

I'm not just looking at Sidibe and thinking he plays for Gillingham he must be crap, I've seen him play a few times and he hasn't impressed me.

Sidibe was probably promised a first team place from the off by Pulis. IF (and I'm not convinced) Levein wanted him, he wouldn't have been able to make the same promise.

Levein has three experienced strikers that he rates highly (love them or hate them) and Big Mama probably didn't fancy being on the bench. Therefore, he chooses Stoke.

Don't kid youself - Sidibe is cack.

I'm very concerned that Levein would even express an interest in Sidibe - What is the point when we already have MDV and Dublin, who are of similar style?

Yes and that's exactly why we need to be looking higher. You could sign some of what Adams bought us from the Leicestershire Senior League and not have to worry about paying. Like I said no point in signing people who are no better than those we've got.

Each addition must be a categoric improvement especially with a small squad. Patience, I think, is going to have to be the keyword. What we've got is not so bad we need to go panicking.

Well, if he thinks he's heading for the big time with Stoke, I can't imagine it.

One of my sons lives in Stoke and I had a shop there for a while. Never got the impression reading the Stoke Sentinel that they had the resources to be much better than where they finished last year.

In fact many fans were delighted that the club had pressed the "up" button on the lift at last and were absolutely delighted to challenge at the right end. Generally though there's an air of despondency around the five/six towns.

Major factories like Royal Doulton (and others) have shed local jobs to have their ware made in the Far East, the cross-Stoke transport system is seriously gridlocked now and for a long time to come and the club (good and honest though it is and with well committed fans) certainly lacks a financial Fairy Godmother. No, in my view, if Sidebe really chose Stoke over Leicester then its for his own reasons rather than reasons of potential.
