The Year Of The Fox Posted 22 October 2011 Posted 22 October 2011 Didn't anyone else watch that program last night where he hypnotises someone to make an assasination? It was one of the weirdest things I've ever seen! (never watched a derren brown program before) Is it real or one big con?

z-layrex Posted 22 October 2011 Posted 22 October 2011 Did you know Derren Brown was gay? I just thought he was really English. Anyway, I love him I need to 4od this. The thing he did where the whole country had to guess what was drawn behind the newspaper in that science museum really gave me the chills, great stuff.
FoxesAreBlue Posted 22 October 2011 Posted 22 October 2011 He does come out with some quality stuff, my favourite is the one where he convinces the shy lad to volunteer to land an airliner - you could seethe guys life change as he grew in confidence
purpleronnie Posted 22 October 2011 Posted 22 October 2011 I find it all really boring. Had to watch it though...unfortunately.
sphericalfox Posted 22 October 2011 Posted 22 October 2011 Look in to my eyes...not around the eyes...
marko Posted 22 October 2011 Posted 22 October 2011 Been to see him live a few times and it's unbelievable stuff.
Zingari Posted 22 October 2011 Posted 22 October 2011 I find it all really boring. Had to watch it though...unfortunately. Why ? Does he have some strange mesmeric effect over you ?
Jackirius Posted 22 October 2011 Posted 22 October 2011 Been to see him live a few times and it's unbelievable stuff. Yep i went in may, i had my doubts that it was all a con before i went, but you really cannot say that it is a con if you have seen him live. The way he randomly chucked things out in the crowd and whoever caught them he then guessed their job title was amazing.
Yojoe36 Posted 22 October 2011 Posted 22 October 2011 I though it was quality. I'd love to see him live sometime. I'm surprised the CSI hasn't stepped in on halting the production of the show
Yojoe36 Posted 22 October 2011 Posted 22 October 2011 Did you know Derren Brown was gay? Yes, he is gay Edit: Or Bi. I forget
Swalker Posted 22 October 2011 Posted 22 October 2011 It is actually quite scary to watch him live. Amazing, would recomend anybody to watch him live
Craig Posted 23 October 2011 Posted 23 October 2011 Yeah, I was a sceptic until I saw him live. Incredible. After that it seems pretty plausible that this could be real...
Charl91 Posted 23 October 2011 Posted 23 October 2011 I love Derren Brown. Howevever, don't be fooled, It's just magic tricks, albeit pretty impressive ones! He convinces a lot of people that it's all about psychology + misdirection. Ironically, this is the most impressive trick; it's actually not any different to any other magic show, if you read up on how he does alot of his tricks. The psychology part isn't true for most of the tricks, and misdirection is just another name for what normal magicians do. The real trick is the way he convinces people that he's doing it with the power of psychology, which is what makes him seem different to the other magic acts! But yeah, entertaining stuff.
Yojoe36 Posted 23 October 2011 Posted 23 October 2011 The hypnotising is real though. When he goes the shake someones hand, he immediately shocks them by shoving their hand in their face. For a second, your conscience goes "numb" or gets confused, needing instruction... I've so got to try this Other hypnotists give the participant a pull or a jolt of the arm, which also gives you a slight shock
Godzilla Gorilla Pimp Posted 23 October 2011 Posted 23 October 2011 Look in to my eyes...not around the eyes... pretty sure the guy this is based on is from lutterworth. he was on that wedding show where the groom does everything. he called himself a charity fundraiser or something but he's a hypnotist and does stuff in lanzarote etc. he looks, acts and talks exactly like that character/
Stay Positive Posted 24 October 2011 Posted 24 October 2011 He does come out with some quality stuff, my favourite is the one where he convinces the shy lad to volunteer to land an airliner - you could seethe guys life change as he grew in confidence The one I liked best was when he hypnotized a lad who was playing a video game at the pub, and then transported him INTO the game where loads of actors played zombies and so forth.
BoneDog Posted 25 October 2011 Posted 25 October 2011 Yep i went in may, i had my doubts that it was all a con before i went, but you really cannot say that it is a con if you have seen him live. The way he randomly chucked things out in the crowd and whoever caught them he then guessed their job title was amazing. I've not seen any Derren Brown shows for ages so I'm not having a go or owt and I'm sure he puts on a marvellous show but this trick is quite easy to pull off I think, what with all the snooping techniques available nowadays. I saw a programme years ago now where some American psychic was explaining how he got information for his shows. He said he got names and addresses from credit cards etc. when people booked their tickets and then paid some employees to do some snooping on the folk who were coming to the show. So the way Derren did this trick I think was thus - They got the names of the people in every seat when they booked tickets, did a bit of research on snooping sites or whatever it is they do to track folk and then created a list of seats, names and jobs. Then when somebody had caught the object on the night of the show, the spotlight went on them in the crowd, somebody on the crew then looked on his clipboard at the list and said to Derren through his earpiece "That's Mike Hunt and he's a gynecologist from Wetwang, Yorkshire". Or something like that
Rincewind Posted 25 October 2011 Posted 25 October 2011 Watching QI they other week and they were demonstrating the 'Find the lady' trick. The panelists were doing quite well and Stephen Fry was holding some mone when someone ran onto the set and took it. That explains how that scam works. The thief was in on it. Never seen much of Daren Brown. Put off by knowing its a trick but not knowing how its done well the complicated ones. Some magicians rely on memory. There is a system where you are able to remember lists by association. A lot of people are able to use it. Names can be a big clue to the person. So if he says 'Is there a Doris in the theatre?' he will expect a woman in her 60/70's to put their hand up. Then he will say I can picture a man and the letter J. and she will shout out that'll be John my son/husband. etc. This is how mediums do it so I suppose its the same for all acts of this sort. The illusions I dont know, mirrors or word suggestion maybe. I cannot get the enthusiasm and excitement over the tricks. There are some programmes on catch up TV I may give them a go.

Or something like that He wasn't wearing an earpiece or anything, he showed everyone at the start of the show (though i know it could have been concealed). He played 3 nights in a row at the Theater Royal in Norwich which must be one of the smallest venues on his tour but still holds a couple of thousand. So that's like 5-6 thousand people in three nights, and only about a months research, it would be pretty impossible to find a couple of hundred let alone a couple of thousand occupations. I dont know if you're kidding about or not so may just have made a tit of myself.
