topharry123 Posted 27 October 2011 Posted 27 October 2011 You seriously comparing that Barca side that finished 14th to the one now??? Some great players yes, great team no. Reziger and Saviola arenf fit to lace the current crops boots. Only Cocu, Rivaldo and Luis Enrique out of that lot would get near the side now. And how many of the Valencia players in the 2001/2 season would even be on the bench at either Barca or Madrid now? Reizeger and Saviola were quality players who were good in their day. Maybe they wouldn't get in to the squad now, but they were of far better quality than the players at Valencia back then. There's no point in comparing them to the teams now, i'm comparing the Valencia squads that Rafa won the title with to the squads of Barca and Madrid of the same seasons. And i'm saying that Madrid and Barca were far superior on paper to the Valencia squads of them seasons, showing that he did a fantastic job with them which no other manager has matched since.
RedHux Posted 27 October 2011 Posted 27 October 2011 Here's the thing with Billy, it's all about brand Billy. He'll almost certainly get you promoted but there will be a lot of away draws, a lot of time wasting and a whole lot of grinding out points. This is something a lot of Forest fans forget preferring to focus on the short period of time we were frankly unstoppable. He will spend a fortune and still claim to not have the full support of the clubs money men. That season we were nearly relegated we'd brought in a sack load of loans to keep us up and then bought most of them and more for the following season spending around 10m in the process and still he whined about needing "..one or two stellar signings".
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 27 October 2011 Posted 27 October 2011 Dont want Ian Dowie / Billy Davies / Neil Warnock / Steve Mclaren / Bryan Robson / Peter Reid / or Junior Lewis
SpartakAnj Posted 27 October 2011 Posted 27 October 2011 No Billy Davies, no Steve Mclaren and no Ian Dowie. And no Roy Keane!
Skullfisher Posted 27 October 2011 Posted 27 October 2011 Roy Keane I would prefer 10 years with Peter Taylor than 1 year with him.....

The whole of that Valencia defence, it was probably the best defence I had ever seen put together. Vague memory but didn't they win the league with Mista as top scorer with 6? That spine of Canizares, Albelda, Baraja, Ayala and the other centre half I can't remember was what won then the league. But that style just isn't going work on getting a side out the championship, that phase of football where Benitez was effective has now passed by in the same way it did here to people like George Graham and Howard Wilkinson.

Reading this post, I think my point is kind of muted anyway as you don't seem to be disagreeing with his achievements, only with how he would do for us and his current effectiveness. Based on the last couple of years i do agree, i would just like to see if he could perform that way with us like he did back then. However, the likelehood of him being our manager is very slim so it's probably all just speculation anyway
cc_star Posted 27 October 2011 Posted 27 October 2011 Don't want to rule anyone out like we did Warnock Except for McLaren... He's a useless c word
Leicesterpool Posted 27 October 2011 Posted 27 October 2011 The fella I dont want... Looks like he's doing a mel gibson impression
Guest Col city fan Posted 27 October 2011 Posted 27 October 2011 Looks like he's doing a mel gibson impression Thats one crazy beard thing going on there..
topharry123 Posted 27 October 2011 Posted 27 October 2011 The worst name possible would be Roy Keane. I would never want a thug like him managing our team.
NeilyBoy Posted 27 October 2011 Posted 27 October 2011 Many people have said his name already but if Billy Davies comes to the KP I'd feel very conflicted. The man's a greasy weasel.
Zingari Posted 27 October 2011 Posted 27 October 2011 my next door neighbour's son and the woman at 98 across the road . other than that i'm fairly open minded

Fjällräven Posted 27 October 2011 Posted 27 October 2011 Anyone who’s blatantly tactically inept, which would include most English managers. Give me a mastermind!
iancognito Posted 27 October 2011 Posted 27 October 2011 I mentioned him because he's a total tit to the press and has managed 2 of our rivals. He's managed one of them to promotion and the other one to the play offs twice in two years on a shoestring. As someone else rightly pointed out, if it weren't for Newcastle that season he'd have got them up automatically. It's a good job Forest supporters didn't turn round in the 70s and say they didn't want that Clough bloke because he'd managed Derby (not comparing the two managers but the principle's the same). And also wouldn't it be great for him to get us up, not them and stick a V up at the red side of the Trent?

Fjällräven Posted 27 October 2011 Posted 27 October 2011 Magnus Magnusson ? As far as I know, no Icelandic manager or TV host fits the bill
Zingari Posted 27 October 2011 Posted 27 October 2011 Alan Latchley. He wouldn't take it , I think he's still got his eye on the big prize aka Scunny job
LcfcBoy09 Posted 27 October 2011 Posted 27 October 2011 If they appoint Iain dowie i will genuinly throw my season ticket away. On the other hand i think the fans need to support who ever comes in, take the pressure off and support the players. The championship is never a walk in the park and loyal fans can boost morale a lot. Martin O'neill wont come as he doesnt like foreign ownerships (the reason he departed from villa)
