Get it Right - Go for OGS

So you have just described ANY young manager starting out there with "up-to-date" ideas, willingness to learn fast"

Reputation as a football PLAYER does not often translate to Management. In fact, I would say it is rare!!

Experience of top level football, again, is a trait a lot of Managers have these days and doesn't seem to have a baring on their success.

Yet again, your post is full of general statements that fail to give any real evidence why OGS should be given a chance anymore than any other YOUNG manager.

I see your obsession with YOUTH in the playing squad has also clouded your judgement on chosing a realistic manager.

We will agree to disagree as I don't want to get in one of your long winded essay show-downs again.

Mark Hughes is my No.1 choice by the way as he potentially offers much more than any other candidate we have been linked with so far.

OGS is hardly just "any" young manager. His record in every way is outstanding. Truly exceptional managers are rare anyway, the trick is to pick who they are before others do.

"Youth" has nothing to do with it. I'd be perfectly happy with MON. But looking ahead does matter. Our manager needs to be capable of being successful at the next level as well as this one.

As for Mark Hughes it's not the daftest suggestion by a long way - for reasons that include some of those you seem to discount with OGS. But he's being OGS in my preferences. I'm just not quite convinced.

He never strikes me as having a great rapport with his players and, if anything, his level of success seems to have declined rather than improved for whatever reason.

That said he'd be about number four on my list. Cos I'm quite sure we'd compete.

How did that work out for you out of interest??

Not doing it now so I guess not too well

Unbeaten in 750 games as player and manager. Goals for 7564 goals against 2.

That is all really interesting but I would like to know (I am sure I am not the only one either) which professional club did you play for and manage? :dunno:

My flat mate is a big Molde fan (coming from Norway) so I have seen a few Molde games this year. At my friends admission Molde haven't played beautiful football (Pearson style) and have been very lucky with other teams in the division doing badly. The more I think about it the more I think

Brian MCDermott would be a good choice.

This pretty much sums it up, actually - there's no reason why OGS wouldn't be able to do a job here, but it would be a spectacular gamble and by no means the 'guaranteed' return to the prem that the owners are looking for. Molde are a very boring team - sitting and absorbing and then playing on the counter, not so dissimilar to the way fergie does it.

They have players that are a good unit, and good for the type of footy that has been played in norway this season (shit football). The fact is, all the big teams here have been shocking this season, molde are kinda top by default - both vålerenga and rosenborg have had periods of complete uselessness this season and are still pushing for top 3 finishes - it has been an anus horribilis for norwegian footy.

more than anything, i can't see him leaving Molde for a while, i wouldn't be surprised if he had a sneaky eye on ferguson's job in a few years.

But Henning Berg is available

Henning Berg. The master of the floated cross carrying no pace, spin, or threat whatsoever. Probably not the man to sort out our free kicks and corners then :P Thracian would have a coronary.

Just scanning Moldes results. They seem to have been involved in a few high scoring games. A 7-1 win, followed by a 5-0 defeat, followed by a 5-1 win. Nothing like a bit of consistency :)

If we're not going to go for experience of MoN, Hughes or Davies & go for someone up & coming then OGS is well worth investigation.

Taking a club to win their league for the 1st time in their history is an achievement.

Hopefully he's investigated & even spoken too to compare to other options on the table it would be criminal to simply over-look him.

Don't hold back now will ya Al! lol

I agree with you..

Thrac usually talks sense but OGS ain't what we need

Where did you get Thrac talks sence from, he hasnt a clue.

This is a man who thought Levi Porter would be a great player and Matty Fryatt wouldnt get goals in our League 1 season!

That aside OGS does look to have a good future, not ready for us yet though me thinks!

If you're going to be critical check your facts.

a) I never once said Porter would be a "great" player and his downfall had absolutely nothing to do with football.

b) Quite the contrary. I said that Fryatt was certain to get goals in League One but was limited as a striker at a higher level. He's scored 12 in 35 for Hull, almost exactly what I'd expected. And with his one assist for Hull this season he's confirmed my view that he's not quite good enough for our requirements as a striker - either now or if we finally get to the Premiership.

To be fair when you have a defence like's Hull's under NP, two strikers with that ratio would actually be more than sufficient.

Tell you what Thracian I take my hat off to you . All your detractors did not even know they where being took It's' the best thread I have read on here to date.

Hinckley Athletic (now Hinckley United). I was 22 or 23 and the youngest manager of a pro club in England apparently.

Didn't stop you picking potter3 over Maybes at centre back.

it's a pitiful league right now, just watched vålerenga play fredrikstad off the park and somehow lose, but it was horrible, FFK had 11 men behind the ball the whole game and some of their football was schoolboy, but the quality of defending is such that unless you use 11 men you'll concede... molde play the same game of sitting back and defending, which is enough sometimes to catch other shitty defences out and score a load on the counter, another day they are the ones being out-absorbed-and-countered.

If you want good football - do not employ a norwegian right now (cf. drillo)

I'd like to do my FA coaching badge one day.

Just to see if managing really is as easy as half the average football crowd seems to think.

Can you share any more info....

How long did you manage them for? Any stats??

How come you didn't stay in Management?

How come you were so young too? Injury forced a premature end to playing career?

I took Huddersfield from League 2 to the Premiership on Football Manager some years back :trumpet:
