You really don't see much.

My boss doesn't have a beard OR glasses.

No I suppose you shave that off before you go down a coal mine ;)

I think you may have quoted the wrong post

I'm sorry I can't remember your original question.

My point was that ,contrary to popular opinion, high earner are making a contribution. The top 1% who are so often vilified pay more than 20% of all personal income tax.

My original point, before you started harping on about tax, was that these cuts will affect the poor more. Would you agree or disagree?

And I appreciate the figures, but can you put it into context by telling us how much the top 1% earn in terms of personal income, so this can be compared to the 20% tax they're paying?

MattP - what do you do for a living?

And why did you choose that over a job in the public sector?

What does it matter what they are earning if you are not paying it?How would you benefit if Wayne Rooney's wages were cut in half? If Richard Branson was put on minimum wage would you be any better off?

Well like I said earlier in the thread, I can only comment on the teachers pension offered from 2002-2004 as a close friend was offered it. I was working in pensions at the time and i was genuinely astounded at what they offering, how they thought they could give away schemes that were in reality worth about 600,000 with a pay in ratio of around 45% I still have no idea. Even more so that they could do this for ten million people retiring at 60-65 under the assumption that the average age would be around 84-85 when we get there anyway.

It doesn't surprise me as its just another example of Labour's kamikaze clueless fiscal policy. They were generally just interested in getting people dependent on them and to hell with the consequences.

Gullible? Maybe, I don't blame them, if you see a good thing you would be mad not to sign for it, I'm genuinely surprised at how many actually seriously thought it was possible though to be paying this out in 20 years, that's probably why they are in the public sector, apart from coppers and firemen they do seem to live a fantasy world. Like Thrac said earlier, the grammar I see from most kids nowadays you can tell the standard has slipped, teaching used to be respected profession based on discipline, dignity, education and decency. People you looked at and really respected. The ones I speak to now come across as glorified social workers.

I write for sports websites and work in other website development. I also work in accounts for certain time periods if necessary for myself.

I do it because I'm good at it. I never had any interest in the public sector, I have high aspirations and I don't believe anything I've seen in the Public Sector encourages that.

You're not even tempted by the lucrative pensions?

Not if they aren't going to be paid.

I'm fairly confident there won't even be a state pension when I get to 70. Start saving.

You do realise you were the one who put in the top 1% to show just how much tax they contribute to the country (20%). If that is relevant then obviously you have to see it in relation to how much, as a percentage, they earn of the national wage... do you know what... forget it - you're so evasive there's no point talking to you

You sit at home all day on the internet don't you?

I can pretty much do what I want yes. I work hard though. You don't earn money if you don't.

Ah, the self employed contractor - the bitterest of the bunch. They're jealous at the fact that we even get a payslip

I'm sorry I thought I was answering your question, I've obviously misunderstood. Please list all your questions and I'll try to give you my opinions on each.

We can move onto other ways of helping the government, but let's first establish - will these across the board cuts affect the poor more than the rich?

What are your thoughts?

If it wasn't for IR35 you wouldn't even be paying your own contributions you cheeky git!

I'll be honest you are probably right :D, I get a raw deal as I have to pay some tax in Australia as well for one of the websites I work for on top of here. I'm helping the public sector across the world. ;)

Well obviously if you are relying on the govt for your income you are more likely to be affected than someone who isn't.
