Atmosphere at Home/Away

Recommended Posts

So people in L1 at 2:55, can you be as loud as you can, and sing 'when your smiling' at a slow pace so everyone else in the stand can join in. I know you may think I'm off my head but I just want some bloody atmopshere at home games, would make it much more enjoyable. :scarf:

load of rubbish..

i love how people always try and blame the poor atmosphere on families... families have always been at football.

Maybe not to blame completely, but hull Saturday, most stood, and it was only because the old biddies, whent to the stewards, some had to sit down!!

I wouldn't say they 'don't allow families in', but in the sections of the ground where there is an atmosphere (like K and L at our ground) there will be barely any families. In general, Kids don't sing, women don't sing, and men with women and children are less likely to sing.

Spot on

Ok, here is how you sing it, well it's the way I remember it in the late 60's and 70's anyway. Remember, do it SLOWLY- IT IS NOT A RACE

When you're smiling

When you're smiling

The whole world smiles with you

When you're laughing

When you're laughing

The sun comes shining through

But when you're crying

You bring on the rain

So stop your sighing

Be happy again

Cause when you're smiling, when you're smiling

The whole world smiles with you, (La la, la la la - this is sung slowly with slow waving of Max Bygraves style hand waving, also known as Jazz hands - ask someone if not sure)

The whole world smiles with you, (La la, la la la - as above)

The Whole (slight pause while hands go up then down)

World (slight pause while hands go up then down)

Smiles (slight pause while hands go up then down)

With Yooouuu ( both hands up doing Jazz hands)

Oh and one last thing, DON'T LET THAT FAT DRUMMER JOIN IN

I've actually given up any hope of atmosphere now at home. It's absolutely pointless. Whatever people try and do the club will kill it.

I agree on our away support as well, it's average at best for a following of our size. Fans like Leeds put everyone to shame.

Is the 'fat drummer' Jobber? Really any need for that comment? All he tries to do is help the atmosphere, yet people slag him off!

The KP stadium sickens me to the point where i've buggered off to Stevenage to stand on a terrace instead. I refuse to spend 30 quid on the train, 20 quid on the ticket for the match and the inevitable 50 quid on booze and food, to just sit quietly for 2 hours. I'd have gladly doubled that price for a trip to Filbert Street.

Our away support particularly in League 1 was fantastic and I still make the effort to get to as many away games as I can but I won't be returning to the KP anytime soon.

That's why I don't go to home games, just not worth the effort. I think we're great away though.

i sit in sk2 and have said for to long it needs to be swapped with the family stand.

then with kop 1 side L1 K1 the other side of away fans thats where we will get atmosphere until then it will always be crap.

Exactly. At Filbert Street, there was a kind of self-segregation amongst the fans - lads in one area, families, etc. in another. At the new ground there's none of that, everyone's mixed together and the atmosphere, as a consequence, is diluted. It's the same at most new grounds tbh.

I have to agree.

Listen I've no issue with letting families in. There is a family stand and this is where, if I had a family, I would take mine.

The thing that I've been getting so annoyed with recently, is the families sitting in the Kop. Hey, again, I dont think that is wrong in itself. Its the looks people are given when they try and sing, shout etc.

One lady asked my mate to "tone it down" when he called the referee a "useless c*nt". Even though the "c" word is not one I am fond of, people should not come and sit with their family in the Kop and expect to hear clean language all game. There is one gentleman who sits near us and brings his daughter. He always sings and shouts and when people use bad language he will cover her ears and laugh. I dont think hes a bad parent hes just being realistic. The football, more traditionally was somewhere the working class man could go and "let off steam" while enjoying himself at weekends.

At Portsmouth, A family (one gentleman two children), were infront of us and moved at half time, after giving a disrespecting look at the group of us behind when we were giving it to Mattock. I dont understand what he was expecting? How can people be so niave.

You can call the people who shout and swear morons but they are often the people generating the most atmosphere. Anyone who argues we have an equal proportion of families in our stand, especially in the louder areas, has really not been too or watched a game at a lot of other stadiums. WHL is an example. WHL is full of blokes, standing. Upton Park. Elland Road. Im not saying they dont have families in attendance because they do.

All in all I am saying that families should always be allowed in. The youngsters of today will hopefully form the hardcore fans of tomorrow and we should encourage this especially in a society where they are being pressured into supporting one of the mega rich champions league clubs. Like I have though, I think they should graduate through the family areas and move into the more "hardcore" areas, when they are more inclined to generate and accept the surrounding atmosphere.

Thats just my opinion anyway.

As i say to my 12 year old, and hes been going since he was 5, whats said at football stays at football.

Absolutely top posts from Manchester Fox and MattP.

Can't add anything to MF's, absolutely spot on.

MattP, I hate to have to agree there. That's the difference for me, our club you can blame a lot for our lack of atmosphere too. I don't know who's behind it or whatever but your best evidence is the Fosse Boys - love them or hate them, they were treated like absolute cvnts by our club and for what? Trying to create an atmosphere.

Whilst they continue to employ the likes of Kevin Barclay, nothing will change in favour of it, I wish we had Palace's club at times where it seems they're allowed to stand in decent numbers and create an atmosphere without any trouble. Seems to have done their support the world of good.

lol what? I go to Selhurst all the time and the place is absolutely dead. Apart from the Holmesdale Fanatics jumping around in the corner the place is a ****ing morgue.

It's right isnt it? Everything down there seems to be trying to stop any sort of atmosphere now, banners being removed because of no fire certificate. The music so loud before you kick off you can't hear the songs from the other sides of the ground, they want a family of five sat there who will do nothing pre match except visit "winter wonderland" and be coached into spending some cash in the club shop, clap along all game with Filbert, buy some pop and crisps and come back next time for the "matchday experience" again.

It's an absolute nonsense. A day at the football used to be what you worked all week for, feels like a chore now, last 3-4 seasons I've woke up saturday morning and though of other things I could have gone to but out of blind loyalty I have to spend the day down here. :trumpet:

This comment just shows how reputation distorts the truth with this subject. I personally think our home support is too harshly criticised when you compare it to other grounds in this league. I can't remember ever being impressed with the home support when at an away game, and I've been to grounds like Elland Road, St James. Park, Hillsborough, The Den, The City Ground etc.

That's not to say ours couldn't be greatly improved, and I agree with quite a few of the posts on here. I'm not sure the old chestnut 'withcing the Kop with the family stand' would work but there does need to be sections for families and sections for people who want to create an atmosphere. No ground in England creates noise all the way round it all match, but if you put all the singers together it can at least be loud in about a 3rd of it. L, K and J are good but the Kop is poor. Those in the top 3rd of the Kop who are stifled by the others should move to J and try and spread the atmosphere further along or even down the East Stand, for a start.

If the Kop was swapped with the family stand I can't see it working just like that though, as the Kop is not much different to the family stand, as there are a lot of families in there. Families need to be strongly encouraged to sit at the opposite side of the ground to the away fans if that was to work.

How is it a morgue. lol You're either just plain biased or totally deaf.

Like them or not, they're a growing group or people getting totally behind their team, and the club have allowed that. Would anyone seriously turn that down in our ground?

Agree with Manchester Fox as well.

The thing is, the Kop will now never be moved or swapped with the family stand. The club spent what I imagine quite a bit of money over the summer redeveloping the club shop to allow those sitting in the family stand to access the club shop at half time - why would they undo that and put the Kop there? (other than there being lots of families in the Kop).

It will take a huge shift in the behaviour of the fans rather than the club to improve atmosphere. The only group to attempt this (fosse boys) were criticised pretty heavily rather than embraced.

Exactly and whilst I know Leicester are abiding the law, it just fvcks me off when you compare it with certain clubs.

Take Man City, I'm sure I read somewhere that their head steward (or someone like that) decided he'd allow standing in the sections near away fans as it's not a problem, it's just a problem when trouble gets caused, you'd never ever get that kind of attitude from someone at our club, well maybe not never, but you just don't hear of it.

It is just a family-orientated business nowadays, the main thing keeping me going is sadly the likes of the Bundesliga, in the hope that one day it may be like that in England, I just don't see it any time soon.

I'm going Bayern V FC Koln next friday night, I can't wait to be able to stand up, sing and watch a game of football with a pint in my hand. It will be depressing when I come back here for the boxing day fixture after it.
