Safe standing areas

Out of interest (well i think its interesting) after having attended games back in the 60s and not again until this season, i was most concerned that i would not be able to stand, however... every game that i went to, that i wanted to stand at...i did. I also noticed the LBlock stands every game

You book tickets along the back, dont pi$$ the stewards off and enjoy the game... seriously, every game home and ..Leeds, forest, cardiff, derby, coventry..etc etc...were all standing for me.

I think the problem is being overblown.

Not really. There are people that don't go to games anymore because they can't stands. There's limited space in l and k block and in waiting til that barclay bloke comes and puts an end to it. Plus why should you buy a season ticket just because you want to stand and get some atmosphere?

I think if standing was brought back clubs would find their grounds getting fuller again, albeit with the type of fans the FA think they've got rid of.

We're lucky to have lenient stewards in l block. Some grounds aren't as fortunate. Wait til you go Leeds away or wembley

Was on same trip as mentioned by Maybes and it is as it looks, fantastic. Lots safer than we currently have. The barriers in front of every seat stop tumbling which many know occurs after big goals and IS dangerous and very painful (my knee is still in a bad way after Kings 1st at west ham.

Still from a standing fans point, the game is pretty much won. Everyone can if they get their tickets in the right places stand at home and bar a horror trip to Boro, South Wales or a souless place like Donny as we saw on saturday 80%+ will stand away. All this would do is make what currently occurs safe and possibly increase it at home games, I'd love half the kop and Land K of the east stand to have 5k terrace places between them and it would attract people back down the City no doubt. But as said they are fans the government, FA and even our own club do not want.

scotland is serious about it, it wont ever happen here, great for scotland though.

This is why I can't see it happening here

'Scotland is not bound by the law which banned standing areas in top-flight football in England, which came into force after the Taylor Report into the Hillsborough disaster in 1989.'

Scotland does seem to listen to their fans, maybe thats because they dont have the large attendances we do, there are so many other reasons why scotland can and we won't but I'm sure they have been discussed in this thread.

Scottish fans have been pressuring their clubs, even after it was announced that safe standing could be allowed in, of course they have huge advatages over us but it does seem scottish fans are more proactive.

They are only listening because their leagues are going tits up.

Definately a reason no question, but theres plenty of empty spaces at grounds at various levels in england, so theres more to it than that.

it wouldn't be difficult to make standing safe - sensible barriers to stop surging - careful monitoring of numbers (the lack of which was the sole cause of the hillsborough disater)- members or season tickets only, any trouble membership o

r season ticket recinded.

I hate having to stand up during a match to let someone shuffle past for a pee.

the sooner the better, ther's no valid artgument

against it

The lack of control of numbers was not the whole cause of the Hillsborough disaster.

Have you not read the Taylor Report.. Hillsborough happened due to a catalogue of errors including poor public announcement

systems, the police failing to see there was an emergency situation, the other fans and the grounds staff believing it was crowd unrest etc etc...

True, there were far too many Liverpool fans there, and the gates were opened to let them in, but this was not the SOLE cause of Hillsborough..

True. However if you look at it bluntly, if there weren't too many Liverpool fans in the ground it wouldn't have happened surely?

Obviously the events you've described added fuel to the fire so to speak.

Needs to be allowed imo. It is not as if the whole of the stadiums would be safe standing, I guess it would be a section at one end to start off with. One things for sure, it would always be sold out.

To anybody who has seen the roadshow or experienced the safe standing: what's it like compared to L1 as it is now? Just less shin scraping?

I'm well up for this idea! Would be a massive V's to all anti-terracing people and the blind, uneducated people in so called 'power' at the FA, government and Police who always link terracing to hooliganism and hide behind Hillsborough as a constant excuse.
