Jimmy Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 Totally irrelevant. It's a completely different case, and if anything, that shows that it has been treated as such. Whether or not Evra has been reliable in other cases doesn't alter the fact that the testimony he has given is consistent with the evidence, unlike that of Suarez's. my overall concern is simply |I just don't trust the F.A. to handle something like this
Guest MattP Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 I find the convicted on probability rather than beyond reasonable doubt very worrying. If this was in court it gets thrown out. Racism must be the only offence in Britain where you are guilty until proven innocent.
accessory Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 so a panel of 3 people, 2 of which have connections to either MUFC or Alex Ferguson calls Evra, previously described by the F.A. as unreliable and exaggeratory interesting. Suarez should of got 4 games as what he said was wrong but he mean no malice, with mandatory classes about race relations in the UK to prevent this happening again Another scouse myth. The composition of the panel was agreed by ALL sides (including Liverpool) prior to the hearing. Attempting to smear it just because you disagree with its findings is pure sour grapes.
Mack Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 Huge bag of wind from Liverpool this evening. The bottom line... They wont appeal. And if there was any chink in the case against Suarez they would have. I wonder if Glenn Johnson is quite so keen to wear that T Shirt again now?
Captain... Posted 4 January 2012 Posted 4 January 2012 Huge bag of wind from Liverpool this evening. The bottom line... They wont appeal. And if there was any chink in the case against Suarez they would have. I wonder if Glenn Johnson is quite so keen to wear that T Shirt again now? It is generally accepted by both sides that Suarez is not a racist, even Evra said that, so I doubt Johnson will have any problem with it, as Suarez admits he uses the same language around Johnson and the other black players of the squad. Suarez has to learn that what he said is not acceptable, now I have read it I agree, there is a cultural gap, but like in England the term Gringo or Yankee is not really offensive but in Mexico and parts of the US you would be offensive using that, in England you follow the English laws, not the Uruguayan ones. I am not a racist, but if I went around calling people niggers and kicking people because they were black, I would expect to get punished as one. Having said that I think the punishment is harsh, the verdict is fair, but I think a bigger personal fine and smaller ban would be fairer maybe with some community work thrown in there for good measure. Suarez also needs to learn that if he wants to refer to any opposition player in future just call them a cvnt. Evra: Why did you kick me? Suarez: Because you are a cvnt! No problem, and the Spanish translation for cvnt is Coño which isn't really very offensive anyway.
BlueSi13 Posted 4 January 2012 Posted 4 January 2012 Irregardless of Liverpool's decision not to appeal, the damage to their reputation will remain as long as Suarez is at the club. Why they didn't just keep their mouths shut until all the facts had been released is beyond me. Chelsea's handling of the Terry situation is the way it should have been handled imo.

You only have to look at the Spanish fans treatment of the Black England players to see that. Just because it is common place in his home Country to treat Black people like second class citizens is not an excuse. Nor is the fact that the way he speaks to them is common in his homeland. Suarez has been in Europe long enough (Ajax before Liverpool) to have educated himself out of the dark ages. And if Johnson et al accept him calling them a Negro etc then they are also partly to blame for his lack of understanding. Suarez is a turd of a man as has been shown by his finger at the Fulham fans, his biting of Makkal whilst at Ajax and his use of the word Negro to Evra 7 times. Lets not forget than it is documented that when Evra asked Suarez why he had kicked him Suarez replied "Because you are Black." Evra may not want to become at the centre of a racist storm but all Suarez's actions point to racist opinions.
ScouseFox Posted 4 January 2012 Posted 4 January 2012 Aye, that's the weirdest thing about all this if you ask me. If "Negrito" is what Suarez calls all black people he comes into contact with, and has called Johnson such, why on earth did Glen Johnson not just say to him, subtly, that in this country a black person would probably take a massive amount of offence if Suarez called him this friendly term? Doesn't make any sense.
Darkon84 Posted 4 January 2012 Posted 4 January 2012 Probably the only good thing a Yahoo sports journo has ever written... In reference to Liverpool and Kenny Dalgleishs continued stance in the Suarez debate and his petty sarcasm about in press conferences etc... Liverpool FC are basically football's equivalent of a belligerent drunk in a bar confrontation. Sod reasonable debate, just bundle them in a taxi and get them out of there.
BlueSi13 Posted 4 January 2012 Posted 4 January 2012 Check out the Liverpool RAWK forum, their delusion and denial about the whole issue is breathtaking
Corky Posted 4 January 2012 Posted 4 January 2012 Check out the Liverpool RAWK forum, their delusion and denial about the whole issue is breathtaking I've read it, absolutely staggering.

How are you still missing the point that negro means black person, to use the word negro in spanish is not racist, in the same why using the word black in english is not racist. Have you been to Uruguay? Do you know they treat black people like second class citizens or are you just bigotted in your views of others. Saying that you are kicking someon because they are black is racist, even if meant as a joke. I initially defended Suarez because I thought that there was a cultural mis understanding where people thought that negro was an insult, "Evra es negro" is not the same as "Evra is a negro". What Liverpool have done wrong is try and convince the world that that was all that was said, but it turns out it wasn't, he said (in Spanish) that he kicked him because he was black. That is racist even as a joke, and he should be punished, but not villified, and you are right that his team mates and managment should have had a word about his language especially Reina and Maxi Rodriguez as spanish speakers. It is still not as clear as the Terry case and he has no excuse, I don't think Liverpool should be ashamed of their support for him, but they should have been more honest in what was said. I don't think Suarez is a racist, he is a quarter black for crying out loud, he was just an idiot for something stupid.

When you are in another Country to your own you should behave according to the customs and acceptable behaviour of that country. Not walk around like you are still in down town Montevideo.

If you read what I have put I agree with you that what he said was offensive but not because he used the word black, but because he said he kicked him because he was black, you still seem to think he called him a negro, and he didn't.
foxychik Posted 4 January 2012 Posted 4 January 2012 Personally I think the saddest and most tragic thing about this is Liverpool & Kenny Dalglesh's continued denial that any wrong was said this is bound to filter down in the lower legues, pubs and the playgrounds as Kenny says its acceptable ( a man who was newcastle manager when the infamous Lennon Shearer inccident happened and he supported his player then also) . They should throw the book at him, as he was brought up in Britain and knows this kind of behaviour is not acceptable.
accessory Posted 5 January 2012 Posted 5 January 2012 The saddest thing of all is that when Liverpool fans were vilified by the Sun after the Hillsborough disaster (thus prejudging the inquests into the 96 who died), Dalglish and the club said not one word. Yet they are more than happy to use similar smear tactics against Patrice Evra. With their history, they should know a lot better.
