Fox92 Posted 23 December 2011 Posted 23 December 2011 That really is sad. It is all over the Country, not just Leicester, and I hate the fact that people will waste some of the emergency services' essential time by pranking 999. Disgrace.
Leicfox Posted 23 December 2011 Posted 23 December 2011 Listen to some of these from the Avon & Somerset Constabulary. I'm sure it's the same sort of calls the Leicester police have to deal with.. http://www.avonandsomerset.police.uk/units_and_departments/communications/999_calls/
Rincewind Posted 23 December 2011 Posted 23 December 2011 What is classed as fake? A cat stuck up a tree? Locked out of a house/car? People ring the emergency services for some ridiculous reasons. Not all deliberate time wasting but time wasting none the less.
ozleicester Posted 24 December 2011 Posted 24 December 2011 I rang 999 to express my concern and disapointment about this
acooling08 Posted 25 December 2011 Posted 25 December 2011 Look at the top rated comment. Worst is Leicester? Well we all know who populates Leicester today. Blaming immigrants for everything - classic DM reader
Rincewind Posted 25 December 2011 Posted 25 December 2011 There would have been a few last night with Santa climbing over roofs.
Christoph Posted 25 December 2011 Posted 25 December 2011 So many times i've seen an ambulance being called for some guy whos drunk when they could have easily been put in a taxi and sent home.
somebum Posted 26 December 2011 Posted 26 December 2011 Well I once got scolded for dialing 999 in what was deemed a 'unnecessary call' by the operator so no doubt I am in the 12%, but I wonder if that number is accurate if what happened to me is anything to go by. I was on a public park one winter afternoon walking my dogs and in various places children were playing and there were ball games etc. A man arrived on large quad bike with an entourage of young kids of around 6, 7 years old. This guy proceeded to speed around the park, doing wheel spins and 360's, hitting fast speeds just a few yards away from other people. A number of people left the park as parents took their kids home and people began to put their dogs on the lead. To make matters worse, the guy got off and allowed the kids to have a go, young kids riding at top speeds, having no idea how to brake, at one stage sending people scattering. So I call 999. In my mind, this was an emergency since the other people on the park were in danger AS ALSO were the kids on the bike. I said I needed a police car immediately as someone was going to get injured/killed. I was berated for calling 999 as this was a number for 'emergencies only'. I explained the situation again, asking when it became an emergency, before or after someone got killed. He again sternly warned me that any more non emergency calls from my mobile number WILL NOT BE TOLERATED and maybe, just maybe, if a plastic pig was in the neighbourhood, somebody may well take a look at what was happening. So there you have it. Crime figures can fall because most people don't bother wasting their time with the police anyway.
Rincewind Posted 26 December 2011 Posted 26 December 2011 I can see your point but I can also see the polices reasons. It was a tricky situation. If you knew the number of the local station maybe that would have been a better option. They may have even sent the car that they would have sent if they treated it as an emergancy. Most likely a Special Constable would be sent.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 27 December 2011 Posted 27 December 2011 I find this extremely worrying. What is wrong with people for crying out loud?
TheUltimateWinner Posted 27 December 2011 Posted 27 December 2011 See this is why I ring the 2222222 number! There was a man in the Park taking pictures in the direction of children. We rang them up and it was the right choice! If you are not sure, Ring your local police force directly.
Rincewind Posted 27 December 2011 Posted 27 December 2011 true. Can never remember if its 7 2's or 7 7's. I don't think they should have been so 'nasty' about it. They should have said thank you for the call but the number you need is 2222222.
