Matt Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 Well we've had Mills, Kasper, Gallagher, Peltier, King, telling us how hard they are trying, and how much they want to get it right. ...Looks like it's Nugent's turn Atleast he's not blaming the fans like others have. David Nugent believes it is up to the Leicester City players to earn the fans' support. The striker called for his team-mates to play with their hearts on their sleeves at Crystal Palace this afternoon. City were booed again on Saturday when they were held to their third consecutive home draw by Portsmouth. The frustration is starting to show around the King Power Stadium. City have now gone five games without a victory and have slipped to 14th in the Championship. Nugent said: "In the first half, we were excellent and should have been in front with the chances we created but in the second half we weren't good enough. "I don't know what is wrong. I think we need to be more of a team and wear our hearts on our sleeves. "If we do that and continue to work hard, the results will come." He added: "Confidence has probably been affected. "When the fans are booing, it does play on our minds a bit but it is up to us to prove to them we want to play for Leicester, get into the play-offs and into the Premier League. "I think the first-half performance was okay but in the second half it was a bit lacklustre for us out there and it didn't happen for us. We need to recover from this quickly. "It was three points we should have had. Palace are doing well in the league and it would be good for us to go there and get three points, and kick on from there." Nugent scored his eighth goal of the season to cancel our Marko Futacs's opener for Portsmouth. But the striker believes that he should have more goals already this season. "I have eight now for the season and I am reasonably happy with that although I think I could have scored more with the chances I have had," he said. "If I had been a bit more clinical in front of goal, I could be on 10 or 12 easily. "I have had chances which have just gone wide or I have hit the post. "In fact, I had another chance in the first half which Greg Halford has done well to block. If I had taken that chance, we would have won the game." Once again - Stop the talking, start performing.
Les-TA-Jon Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 I don't know why people are constantly moaning about players talking the talk and not walking the walk. What do you expect them to do? Just not talk to BBC radio leicester or the Mercury? All these quotes and articles are from them being asked to comment. The players and manager aren't actively going out and spouting all this stuff.

Well you are correct, and tbh perhaps I shouldn't be moaning at Nuge, he has done ok in that article stating fact, what does annoy me is when some players (Despite some players doing ok and deserving to play) almost blaming the fans. Also yeah obviously you need some correspondence via media between players and fans but it might not be a bad idea putting abit of a limit on who talks to the press/media.
Guest ttfn Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 Nugent's basically saying that some players aren't pulling their weight. The phrase "no shit, Sherlock" springs to mind but at least he's got the nuts to come out and say it.
Mission Unlikely Promotion Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 At least Nugent is putting the ball in the net. This
Happy Fox Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 A tip for Nugent and the rest of the team watch some the games in your "spare time" from the MON era, and watch the likes of Walsh, Izzet, Lennon etc then hopefully you will see what it means to wear the shirt with pride.
Happy Fox Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 At least Nugent has thought about what he wants to say with a bit of thought.
sdb Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 Not sure what he's done wrong here! He's playing well and has to talk to the press. He's saying the right things, cliches or not.

Filbert The Fox Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 What did i say about things not always going how you want them to go. F*@K IT
Jollie Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 If they all tried as hard as this guy does we'd be a good few places higher in the league
Thracian Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 Well we've had Mills, Kasper, Gallagher, Peltier, King, telling us how hard they are trying, and how much they want to get it right. ...Looks like it's Nugent's turn Atleast he's not blaming the fans like others have. Once again - Stop the talking, start performing. At least Nugent seems to emphasise the setting of standards. Even after an acceptable goals return he is critical of himself and that should be the case with all connected to the team. Nugent does good things and bad but there's no doubt in my mind that if everyone had his hunger for the game and his determination to make the best of whatever is around then we wouldn't be so indifferent. i'd include King in this. There's no doubt he's a good player but he needs to ask more of himself and to show a bit more urgency. I know he's frustrated. It can be no fun taking up a position and watching the ball being constantly humphed over your head but he should demand the ball - given that Pearson seems so unwilling to ask better of the centre-backs. Just like Kisnorbo, Brown and Hobs before him Mills should only be allowed to pass the ball up to 15 yards when he's not under pressure - and quickly - because the least he's in possession the better and anything beyond 15 yards is a virtual gimme for the opposition. The problem for Kingy is that he's a nice guy and not the kind who I'd easily imagine berating his team-mates. He also seems stale and frustrated. We've stopped playing his kind of football - the kind of pass and move football which requires a team in unison and which will eventually get us somewhere. What a long time it seems since we put brilliant halves together such as against Forest and Derby away, West ham away in the second half and even Southampton at home for spells. But there's none of that sort of football now. It's all so laboured and so full of doubt, inhibition and fear. We've bigged ourselves up and been put in our place. Each week the dream moves further from reality. But the manager can't see it that way. The manager has to emphasise to the players that by some minor miracle we still have a chance of challenging for a play-off place despite our poor form. And if we can play that badly and still not be out of it then how about we start doing ourselves some justice - individually and collectively. Let's have some faith, Nigel, and get our individual players doing what they're best at. Let Tunchev marshall the defence - he's the best we have. Let Kingy get forward and attack late - it what he does naturally. Let Dyer run at people. Let's find the passes to compliment Beckford's runs. Let's hit Nugent's feet in and around the box and let's see Gallagher get that final tee-up outside the box from where he shoots so well. But most of all let's want the ball, let's pressure the opposition into mistakes and let's believe in ourselves when we get it and let's support one another in every area.
Guest Col city fan Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 Compared to the utter shite that are playing around him at present I think Nugent's work rate, attitude and goals have been a breath of fresh air to the club. If only the others put in a shift like this man does we'd be looking like a much better team. Nuge is currently my fave player by far.
Corky Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 It is annoying to hear these words not backed up with actions (not a dig at Nugent specifically, he's done well) but the papers and radio need to fill their space with something. I'd rather see the talking on the pitch.
