Guybino Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 He played 34 for games for Everton, 8 goals. No matter how much people slate him, 1 goal every 4 games in the Prem is easily good enough for any team in the Champ. His time will come.
accessory Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 DJ Campbell had a better rate at Blackpool last season in the top flight, and he couldn't cut it with us. How much more time will NP give Beckford?
DarkTranquillity Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 Like the rest of the team, we need to get behind him. He is a very good player that is not getting the service he needs. He isn't great in the air, so what do we expect when the ball is lumped up to him? If the midfield becomes creative once again (we know Wellens can play the trough ball perfectly, although he isn't the answer), i have every confidence Beckford will score an awful lot of goals and everyone will be saying what a great signing he has been! In the meantime, get behind him!
SeCrEt FoX Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 That really hits the nail on the head, likes running onto through balls or having it at his feet to run at defenders as he did against pompey, hoofing long balls, or crossing into the box is not exactly his forte or playing to his strengths. If we strengthen up the midfield will not be surprised to see him playing better/scoring more goals. exactly that, someone with a bit of flair and vision who can not just pick a 700mile hollywood pass but just pick a normal through ball. You cant just buy any player and expect him to fit straight in, hes got his game and the team are already playing their game. I think i know a great forward who we could use to our strenths Peter Crouch ! you could punt the ball up to him all day and he will do what you want Beckford to do. 2 completely different players, one likes it on floor and the other likes it in the air until we start playing more through balls and stop the lob ball and get a decent central midfielder who can play decent passes on the floor and maybe two wingers who can not only cross but feed Beckford what he wants TO HIS FEET or to run on to i really dont think we will ever get the full out of him and its not his fault.

EnderbyFox Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 He had Charlie Adam supplying him, someone who now plays for Liverpool for his efforts. Beckford had Arteta?
SeCrEt FoX Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 Beckford had Arteta? Yeah but he didnt play too bad for someone who stepped up from league 1 to prem Plus wasnt Arteta injured for best part of last season?. He did get good service at Everton but not score often enough sort of brings us back to him not being prolific but then again he could cut it in the Championship and score for fun again just needs the service imo.
Guest ttfn Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 Beckford had Arteta? Along with the rest of Everton's army of creative players. Any half-decent striker would get at least 4 or 5 more than Beckford managed. Moyes wasn't exactly keen to hang on to him. The only reason he got to the Premier League in the first place was that he was on a free transfer.
Milton Keynes Fox Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 Stop getting on his back, sing his name, let him know we are in full support of him and he will get better. How will he improve if he is booed of the pitch?
Charl91 Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 Beckford is not going to score if he's not getting any game time. I can't understand why he's being slated for not scoring at the moment, when he's producing good chances in the 15 minutes he's getting per game. Yes, he should have played better when he first came, but it can take a while to adapt, and to me, it looks like he has improved, and is worthy of a start.
NewquayFox Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 Start him with Nugent against Forest and our new midfielders and wingers will supply the goods... ;0)
stockyfox Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 To play Beckford for fifteen minutes and then berate him for not scoring in that 15 minute 'window' can be likened to buying a ticket on the Tombola stall. If it ends with a 5 or a 0, you win a prize. If you get a 1 or a 4 or a 6 or a 9, that's pretty close but there's no prize. However, the more tickets you buy, the better your chances. so with Jermaine Beckford, the longer he is on the pitch, the more opportunities he will have to score. He should start each game as an automatic choice because he will always be perceived as a threat by the opposition. So..................................... Give me a B, give me an E, give me a C, give me a K, give me an F, give me an O, give me an R, give me a D, give me BECKFORRRRDD (Repeat ad nauseam.)

How will he improve if he is booed of the pitch? Totally agree Beckford has lost his ego now, and hopefully the fans do start chanting his name to boost his confidence... Even when he got into a tiny scuffle with a Pompey player and we started singing 'Beckford knock him out, Beckford Beckford knock him out' im sure that helped him a little!

I really do think this is all bollox.. Was anyone 'on his back' for the first few games of the season. This really started when he did what he did at West Ham. If anyone has 'got on his back' it's cos he has a first touch like a rapist and has an awful goals tally. Stop making excuses... People really will try anything rather than be honest and accept how he's played for us. Which has generally been pants. If he starts to make chances, have shots, and look like a dangerous striker then great.. But don't try to adulate him for 'putting in the effort'. That's the MINIMUM expectation. If anyone is on his back then ask yourself why? No one is 'on Nugent's back' are they? Reason being he's put in lots if effort and scored goals... With the same supply as has Beckford I might add....

Yeah, he started out pants, I agree. But Beckford has looked good since Blackpool though (in my opinion). He just isn't getting the game time. I think he deserves a second chance - he can't be blamed for not getting goals when he's coming on as a sub. Especially when he has looked more dangerous as a sub then the rest of our team looked for the whole game. That's happened a few times now.
dannythefox Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 Beckford with service is a great player but if we sign another striker soon he wont get a look in he will not be happy playing second fiddle striker. To be fair how long do we keep sticking up for him? We know he's a good player but some times it doesn't work out at clubs. Waghorn would of scored more with his eyes shut in the amount of games he's had.

I can only presume that Pearson isn't starting him because he either thinks we have better options or he wants to make a point. Either way, Pearson is the boss and id rather back him than a player who has been very disappointing for us so far.
roblcfc84 Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 I think beckford is a talented player and we should stick with him long term. Still think he has a touch of the dj Campbell's about him. He has had a taste a premiere league football and maybe a there has been a bit of arrogance there. If he gets his head down and wants to be a success here he will do well.
Bugg Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 I don't think that Beckford has as much of an attitude as claimed. Certainly doesn't seem like a DJ Campbell who seemed to be poisonous to team spirit, judging by other players reactions to him on the pitch I think he is quite well liked by the playing staff.
