Legend_in_blue Posted 9 January 2012 Posted 9 January 2012 Hang on! It was a two-legged challenge...........it's a sending off. It wasn't a two footed challenge. He won the ball with one foot and his other leg followed through with the momentum of his challenge. At no point did he go in with studs showing either. Initially I thought "fantastic challenge" and having watched it over a fair few times since then, I still think it was. It was a poor decision from the referee and ultimately it spoilt what was meant to be an entertaining fixture. I'm not a supporter of either side but as a neutral it angered me at the time that a game could be ruined so early on by a weak decision.
Legend_in_blue Posted 9 January 2012 Posted 9 January 2012 So what were they supposed to do? Ignore the fact that he scored two goals which won his team the game? It should also be noted that Rooney's also seen Vidic and Cleverley put out of the game for months already this season, by bad tackles which were NOT punished by red cards. If Matt Mills had made the challenge and been red-carded, most people on here would be slating him rather than the ref. They ignored the fact that the best player on the pitch played for the other side up front on his own for all of 75 minutes of the game. If Matt Mills had made the challenge I'd have thought it to be a fantastic challenge. Nothing wrong with it at all. He won the ball with one foot. Simple. The referee is criticised when a contentious decision is made. A contentious decision was made because the challenge itself wasn't worthy of a card of any kind at all. One could also refer back to the decision made against Mills vs Forest. Just as ludicrous imo. Different situation, yes, but just as stupid an outcome.
Stig the Lawnmower Posted 9 January 2012 Posted 9 January 2012 seems to me stig that the only one who is a twat is you.... like referees are influenced...i seen referees and lines men influenced by crowds, but you probably never go to the games, so you wouldnt know.....f**king idiot excuse me flowerpot, I was probably going to filbert street before you were born, season ticket holder, have been for years. I reiterate (look it up in the dictionary - big book with lots of words) Rooney did not influence the ref, he was going for his card right away. with regard to your comment about a leg breaking tackle on Rooney, I hope the next time you go out in your car, bicycle or my little pony tricycle, some careless driver hits you and breaks your leg. same sentiment isn't it? see what I mean? stupid comment from a stupid twat
Yojoe36 Posted 9 January 2012 Posted 9 January 2012 He does this EVERY TIME A "FOUL" IS MADE I'd love to break his fvcking jaw
Narborough Bod Posted 9 January 2012 Posted 9 January 2012 It's a red card, based on current laws & although Nani's a bellend, his jump over Kompany is the only reason he doesn't 'potentially' suffer an injury. Rooney...lovely man.
Bert Posted 9 January 2012 Posted 9 January 2012 what a disgraceful useless slab of lard getting a fellow professional sent off.......not even a foul as clearly won the ball with no contact. lets hope the next tackle on rooney is a real leg breaker And Mancini who does exactly the same along with many others then? Kompany left the floor with both feet. It could've been Nani's leg being broke If he'd made contact.
potter3 Posted 9 January 2012 Posted 9 January 2012 It's a well timed challenge, but you can clearly see both feet leave the floor, if he'd caught Nani's leg when his weight was on it he'd have done some serious damage. And yeah Rooney can be a cock but that hardly makes him unusual.
Stadt Posted 9 January 2012 Posted 9 January 2012 I think Rooney is scapegoated alot, but it often doesn't excuse his actions.
Guest ttfn Posted 9 January 2012 Posted 9 January 2012 Made FifPro world XI as voted for by national captains and coaches. But no, he's an overrated lard arse according to so many here. Grossly under-rated in this country.
Finnegan Posted 9 January 2012 Posted 9 January 2012 Kompany left the floor with both feet. It could've been Nani's leg being broke If he'd made contact. Not really, Bert, let's be sensible here for a minute. It wasn't what you typically think of as a two footed lunge, he went for the ball with one leg and, hell, the other had to go somewhere. Nani was never in any danger of anything other than maybe being knocked over. He's one of the biggest drama queens in football and even he just carried on after the ball without batting an eyelid until the ref blew. I didn't see Rooney waving his hand for a card and I don't give a shit either way, Chris Foy made the decision and has a history of silly sending offs so I don't think the player can really be faulted for that. But it wasn't a red card and pretty much the entire footballing world knows that. No point trying to justify it as one just because you've a fondness for United.
Legend_in_blue Posted 11 January 2012 Posted 11 January 2012 Glen Johnson - tonights game against Man City. That is a two footed challenge people. Simple. Of course, nothing given.
Fox in the North Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 Think it's about time the referees and fa had a sit down and go through the rule book and clarify everything so the referees and the fa can be consistent. Even if the referees had a meeting to go through their own interpretations of fouls etc. Surely if would be beneficial
Ashley Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 Glen Johnson - tonights game against Man City. That is a two footed challenge people. Simple. Of course, nothing given. That was a straight red, Kompanys was a one footed tackle. Great challenge in fact.
Guest MattP Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 And Mancini who does exactly the same along with many others then? Kompany left the floor with both feet. It could've been Nani's leg being broke If he'd made contact. Absolute nonsense. When are people going to leave the mindset that all two footed tackles are dangerous? Kompany knew he was getting the ball and that's why he went through, same as Johnson last night, neither were even fouls yet one guy has to sit out 5 games why the other conceded a throw in. The sport is well and truly ****ed.
