Guest Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 Delfounso is only here for a month - if he doesn't start why bother? I'd have Drinkwater in for Wellens Marshall in for Gally consider Morgan in for SSL or Mills Is the game still most likely to go ahead? I see you're going to have snow over the weekend.
jonlcfc1990 Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 Haha, who in their right mind is going to be stood there in JUST a t-shirt?! Especially that monstrosity. It's bastard freezing!! Not just a t-shirt...Don't forget the scarf

It can be extended you know I think they have under-soil heating so hopefully it will go ahead, otherwise me and the lads will just be getting very drunk
Guest Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 Of course I know it can be extended but you don't bother signing a guy on a short loan if you're not going to play him.
Simo86 Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 Of course I know it can be extended but you don't bother signing a guy on a short loan if you're not going to play him. He's been signed as cover. There's been 2 games he's been eligible for since he came in and he's came on as a sub in both. Would you rather NP dropped Beckford or Nugent? If he plays well whilst he's here it'll get extend, and he'll get other opportunities. If he doesn't perform he'll go back to Villa simple as.

The feeling from Villa fans is that they will want him back when Keane goes back to the MLS, they rate him highly, if he isn't getting much game time here then they would rather have him on their bench than ours.
blueblood88 Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 Schmeichel Peltier Mills St Ledger Konchesky Marshall Drinkwater Danns Delfouneso Nugent Beckford Going for a 1-2 win for City, Brighton like to play an open attacking style of football, which suits our game perfectly. Danns and Beckford with the goals, Mackail-Smith getting theirs.

Burbage Fox Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 More of this please tomorrow, I know the away support is good but Tuesday was the best home support for ages, probably jumping up and down cause its was freezin, my feet are still numb

I don't agree with you - but I'm not saying that I'm right and you're wrong - You don't sign a prem player for 1 month as cover and not play him. You sign him to boost you, of course you also sign him with the intention of extending to the end of the season. I think he was only signed for a month because they hoped to permanently sign another attacker. Maybe Marshall is that man. as regards Beckford and nugent, I wouldn't drop Nugent but Beckford hasn't proven himself to me yet, though obviously I hope he will. He seems a mentally fragile player as well as too selfish - though that may be a good thing for a proven goalscorer.

That's fair enough, everyone has there opinion He's not a proven Prem player though. Just because he's from the Prem doesn't give him a right to a starting place. You can't drop Beckford after his performance against Boro though really
MrSpaM Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 I swear Mattocks played against us about ten times already this season! He must just love the abuse! seems every team he signs for we end up playing a week later

Just because he's from the Prem doesn't give him a right to a starting place. You can't drop Beckford after his performance against Boro though really I thought Delfouneso played well the other night, instrumental in our late surge. After such a short time on the pitch I am reluctant to say much, but I thought he played well with Beckford, well enough that I would try him up front with Nugent wide left. Puts a lot of responsibility on the midfield pairing, but if Marshall and Nugent do a bit up and down the flanks I would back Danns and Drinkwater to do the job. Doubt it would be NFP's choice, bit too daring perhaps.......
Guest ttfn Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 Half right, half wrong.......... In your opinion! I agree that Wellens doesn't do a particularly good job in defensive positions (the second half of the Southampton home game in August being a case in point, letting Lallana have free rein) but he does take the responsibility to try to sit back when we play a 2, possibly because he doesn't have the legs to be "box-to-box". I'm not convinced that either Danns or Drinkwater can be trusted to do that at this stage. Neither Abe or Fernandes really fulfilled the "Makelele role" but they were defensively minded midfield players. We don't have any of those left now.

I also think he would be a better target man than howard but thats another matter
cc_star Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 Tough game I back us to score as we have done in the last 12 league games, not totally convinced our defence will keep a clean sheet so it comes down to whether we can outscore them. I've heard a lot about Marshall's ability but nothing of his workrate and his willingness to trackback and close down or even tackle opposing widemen, but I would like to see us have that natural width on that side, but I hope he's capable of supporting a midfield duo who can be over-ran in a 442 if both the widemen stay too wide. Danns need to try stop giving so many fouls away especially in dangerous positions & still loses possession a tad too easily for me, but he's proving that he's an adept box-to-box player, would like to see him partner Drinkwater too Going to be one where hardwork is key and a moment of magic or mistake is the difference.
Pooley Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 Nigel was pleased with a 4 3 3 set up late in the match on Wednesday, so wouldn’t be surprised to see this. Wellens, Danns and Drinkwater in the midfield with Marshall on either wing with Nugent and Beckford up top but one of which occasionally providing the width on the other flank. Brighton will dominate in midfield if we only play two there. Danns and Drinkwater will provide the energy and drive leaving Wellens the time and space to do what he’s best at, hopefully.
Mission Unlikely Promotion Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 A narrow win for Leicester i hope
accessory Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 It depends on what team travels. If we play like we did at Southampton it will be another comfortable win, with further goals for the Beckford/Nugent partnership. But if we take our poor home form on the road, and Gallagher and Dyer are as woeful as they were on Wednesday, then the home side will fancy their chances. Brighton have become a lot more physical in recent games, so I wouldn't be surprised to see a red card appear at some part of the game. I hope we can keep our discipline and not let them intimidate us.
Corky Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 We're looking better away from home at the moment, the team seems to be more relaxed.

Wellen's defensive work is awful in all respects, he points and postures but contributes little. It is his poor positioning that forces our backline ever deeper and his ability to give the ball back to the opposition is superior to Mills....... Giving him the holding role because he can not manage to get up and down is a nonsense and our best defensive player, Fernandez was never given a start in his prefered role. Nigel was pleased with a 4 3 3 set up late in the match on Wednesday, so wouldn’t be surprised to see this. Playing 4-4-2 with 2 men wide and 2 men up is always a risk but if we can play with the energy we have shown in recent weeks then we have a chance, particularly against a passing side like Brighton.
