Wherethefoxhat? Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 The reason that his form has dipped is because he has been found out at this level now. The better the team and players the quicker they find a players weak points. Look how many goals have been created/scored on our right hand side. His positioning needs to improve drastically if he is to make it in this division. He can forget about ever being a Prem right back. He is not good enough. I think thats why NP finally lost patience with him last night .
Burmesefox Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 I am in total agreement that having Gally in front of him leaves him exposed to attack and, anecdotely, I would think that a good proportion of our goals conceded come down the left (his right). Gally is not known for his defending and, as stated, is actually an attacker. This leaves a much more exposed defensive weakness than our left side which under Konch (our best player) is rock solid. Look how every time we are in trouble we farm the ball across to our left for Konch to organise the pattern of attacking play. It is unfair to compare Pelts with konch though; Pelts has a lot to learn so don't knock him - he is a good player with agood future ahead of him. Granted he does lack the attacking edge of Knoch and also struggles to get back into position but he is still learning and Knoch is very experienced. It's just a time thing and he's only young with defenders taking a little longer to mature in my opinion.
Weller in Tights Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 I personally have always rated Peltier. I observed early on in the game last night that Watford were concentrating on that side for their breaks and it was clear that Gallagher wasn't covering/tracking back. However, having said that, I then thought St Ledger did a much better job at right back. I thought Nugent and Beckford looked class, I am afraid its that old boring one but the midfield is just not good enough.
marbelladave Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 We never played with any width under Sven, with Abe/Gelson/Danns playing on the right so I don't see how the situation has changed. I think he is just out of form and could do with a rest, maybe stick St Ledger right back and bring in big Wes to solidify our soft defence. We were more solid defensively with the players you mention but you are right, Peltier has lost form and confidence. St Ledger at right back is a decent call, won't get forward as much but perhaps more solid defensively..... Not exactly short of center backs are we.......
jonlcfc1990 Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 SSL at rb? Still no one has explained this to me
GingerrrFox Posted 15 February 2012 Author Posted 15 February 2012 Come to think of it I remember an interview where Shakey was saying that they ask Gallagher to play differently to Dyer to "play to his strengths" this is all well and good but if you are asking Peltier to also push forward and supply the width who then is gonna cover for Peltier?? People were slating Peltier for not bombing forward enough and really attacking the opposition, but if you're a full back and you know the guy in front of you is lazy when it comes to defending (Gallagher really is in the Nani/Ronaldo mould rather than a Valencia/Ji Sung Park) it really prevents you from going forwards with any conviction because you know that space is gonna get exploited. That is why the goals always seem to come down our right hand side. IMO you can't blame Peltier because if you are asking him to press on he has to have some sort of cover and he never gets it. People are talking about goals at the back post but often (Doncaster, Billy Sharp's second) it's because the striker has pulled off his man in the middle and been unmarked moving to the back post, now it's questionable whether the centre half moves with him or the fullback picks him up but it depends on the defensive structure you play.
MrSpaM Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 I agree he's not been good enough recently, but whats the alternative? Pantsil has been shocking every time he's played, i've not heard a single good thing said about him since he arrived. I think theres a good chance Pelts will be replaced in the summer

If we applied your logic then we wouldnt be playing SSL, MIlls, Danns, Beckford or even Konch (if you believed someof teh idiots on here who heckled him to start with).

Guest Col city fan Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 I reckon we can analyse this to death. Is it Gallys fault for not tracking back enough? No, I don't think so.. As many others have said, Gally is a striker. Is Pelts more of a 'wing back' than a 'full back'? Well I think he should be able to play both positions. Why weren't people on this forum slating Kyle Naughton when he was here last season? I tell you why... He's an exceptional young player in his position. Peltier isn't... He's average.... Like most of our squad. Accept it and move on.
EnderbyFox Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 Really funny but Peltier tweeted last night something along the lines of being gutted but not to "make scapegoats" well he certainly saw you lot coming. Top notch support Really funny that it was Danns that tweeted that and not Pelts. neil danns @dannzy1 Gutted as anyone else , we dominated the second half apart from the goal , fans were quality , I know its frustrating but don't scape goat
Saxondale Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 Yes he seems to have been caught out of position a lot lately - but is he being instructed to adopt a more forward position or is he just drifting off task?
Burmesefox Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 He's had enough of a chance to know that dropping Peltier isnt an option Yeah, Pantsil has played 2 full league matches and come on as sub twice - if that's a fair crack of whip then your logic would mean that Mills, SSL, Konch (acording to some), Beckford, Danns wouldnt be playing now let alone players who struggled at first like Steve Walsh.
Ric Flair Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 Looking at Peltier and SSL's latest tweets I think Pearson has made them scapegoats for last night. Looks like Peltier has been given a right going over, SSL likely as well.

Guesty Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 Peltiers unlucky that Naughton played there last year and he is unfairly compared to him. Lets face it Naughton was far too good for this league. If we'd had Neilson there all last year I don't think he'd get as much stick. People who are asking for Pantsil back must have not seen any of the games he playerd for us at the start of the season. I was excited about him signing but I couldn't believe how poor he looked. His positioning was poor and there was 1 game where he was like bambi on ice, he spent more time on his arse than stopping crosses. Glad I'm not the only one who thinks Peltier gets some unfair criticism. Peltier is constantly being left exposed. It's like at times he has to do 2 jobs because he has to defend but also get forward and provide the width. Must get demoralising constantly running forwards then having to run back and defend because we lose the ball.

He is not where he should be to be over ran in the first place. Dyer does about as much tracking back as Gallagher yet Konchesky manages to bomb forward yet still be in position. Peltier should look at Konchesky and learn from him. There is a reason why teams are exploiting our right hand side at the moment.

There is a reason why teams are exploiting our right hand side at the moment. Konchesky on that left hand side has looked so much better than Pelts on the right. The Konch naturally seems to know when to get forward and when to stay back and defend. Positionally Pelts is naive.. We have seen this time and time again, esp over recent months. Whether this is inexperience or whether Konch is just a better player I don't really know? I'd suggest a bit of both

But Dyer is much better defensively than Gallagher and offers far more protection. Peltier does have poor games and I'm not saying he's faultless at all, but so many times this season we've lost the ball in the oppostion's half and Peltier has a full back and and winger bombing on at him whilst Gallagher is in the centre and Peltier has to decide whether to close down the man or track the runner. Occasional he ends up doing neither and gets all the blame when he should only have to shoulder some of it.

JonnyBoy Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 I like it when Panstil does that thing before a game, just saying
munf1987 Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 we should start Panstil just because he is the captain of Ghana and Pelts came from a league 1 club!!! What happened to having young players that are hungry to play and be successful for our club? Some of our fans are a joke.
