GingerrrFox Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 After watching closely over the past few matches to try and understand why people have been criticising Peltier in defence, I have come to the conclusion that it actually isn't his fault. I've noticed after watching our right side intently that Gallagher playing on the right side of the midfield NEVER and I mean NEVER sticks to his position, now I'm not saying this to have a pop at Gally because for all I know he has been told by Pearson to drift inwards and become involved in the middle of the pitch/behind the front two. However what I can have a pop at Gally about is how long it takes him to track back into position and what occurs is either an overlap on Peltier by the opposition LM/LB or one of the central midfielders has to move out to accommodate and occupy the space left by Gally. This has been exploited on a number of occasions in fact one time that really sticks in the memory was at Doncaster when we were hit on the break Wellens had to move across and got done for pace, luckily the ball went out for a corner but Richie went ****ing ballistic and told Gally to stop drifting around and stay in position. This never happens on the left side as Dyer is an out an out winger who relishes being glued to the touchline hence why Konch rarely gets overlapped on our left. Now the answer is simple, 1) stop playing Gallagher on the wing if he's not been told to drift inside and play Marshall instead, 2) change the tactic if he has been told to drift inside because it leads us to get exploited down the right or 3) tell him to get his ****ing arse in gear if we lose the ball and work back into position quicker.
Dan Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 I'm in total agreement. I guarantee we'll see the old Peltier should we start a natural winger, he drifts inside and plays more like a centre mid at times does Gallagher, he's got that much ground to cover.
munf1987 Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 There is nothing wrong with having a wonger drift inside at all. it makes it difficult for teams to pick up and can pull players out of position, it could on the other hand leave Pelts one on one with the oppositions winger if the full back follows gally inside. Your 3rd point is spot on, as soon as you loose the ball you need to be getting back into position, or you work as a team and a cm drops out wide and the winger slots into the middle until you get the chance to change. It's not just down to gallegher, if he cuts inside and scores a cracking goal, will you be moaning about him cutting inside? He has a great shot on him and why waste that. In a 442 formation you could only play gally out wide imo. he lacks pace and doesn't get in the right positions to be a threat up front and doesn't have the skills needed to play cm. I'm all for a proper winger to play and whip some crosses in for beckford and nugent, but if gallegher is picked to play on the wing, id rather he'd play to his strengths and the team play as a team and back each other up
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 I for once don't blame Gallagher for this. If a ball comes over towards the far post Peltier is never there. He is always in the middle or up Tue pitch somewhere. That's basic and none fault but his.

Good point, l should add that Peltier is a player who likes to overlap, but with Gallegher infront of him, can't as he will not cover for him.
beemeroo Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 Not just Gallagher but Mills also. His positioning is utterly shocking and I was surprised at the amount of times Peltier felt the need to come more central leaving yet another overlap for the opposition wingers.
jonlcfc1990 Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 Peltier has been off for a while now Gallagher isn't a winger, Every single website stat book and programme will tell you he's an attacker we signed him as a striker it's the managers decision to play a non winger on the wing not the players the player is just happy to get picked. I agree that it leaves Pelts exposed at the back but if Gallagher didn't go looking for the ball then people would moan and call him lazy Konch and Dyer hook up well because as people have pointed out HES A WINGER if we can't find a place for gallagher then he shouldn't be in the team but can you afford to leave him out with his goals? It's a horrible position we are in and he certainly doesn't fit a 4-4-2 he's much better to be given an Andy king esq role in midfield because then Wellens or Danny can keep the holding midfield role while he runs to either side offering link up play. Also Pelts might benefit from a rest we have Moore and he was in a winning team away from home which has been a rarity this season! He's young hungry and it might show Pelts that he has a position to fight for because Pantsil certainly doesn't seem interested...
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 The reason that his form has dipped is because he has been found out at this level now. The better the team and players the quicker they find a players weak points. Look how many goals have been created/scored on our right hand side. His positioning needs to improve drastically if he is to make it in this division. He can forget about ever being a Prem right back. He is not good enough.

Many people compared Peltier to Kyle Naughton.... Naughton is much much better than Peltier, defensively and going forward
Babylon Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 With Pansil and Bamba coming back we could soon have a rather new look defence. We've looked fragile all season and as i've been saying the last few weeks the clean sheets have just papered over the cracks of a shaky defence.
cc_star Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 If Gally was glued to the touchline a) Midfield duo would be more easily over-ran b) Peltier would have nowhere to over-lap, which is a worthwhile source of attacks, with Gally cutting-in & playing balls down the channels mainly for Beckford to run on to. It's not as simple as just moving the blame to someone else. Happened to even Naughton on more than one occasion too. I don't get the blame game, you can blame anyone... For eg. if Beckford was scoring 1 in every 2 league games then we'd have turned draws in to wins & defeats into draws. If Mills/Bamba/SSL could mark-up effectively we wouldn't concede so many, again turning draws into wins & defeats into draws. But the whole teams rarely performs so we often turn wins into draws & draws into defeats.
marbelladave Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 I posted this in another thread, it is more appropriate here....... (Since Pearson arrived, is that what you mean?........ ) Seriously, I think this is down to the Pearson 'method'. He knows that he can not play with 2 men up and 2 wide as we would get murdered in central midfield. So he plays with 1 wide man on the left and someone playing narrow on the right who can 'tuck in' and help out centrally. In 2009/10 the 'narrow right' position was (mostly) taken by Oakley, now it is Gallagher. This setup does leave the right back exposed somewhat particularly if that fullback is required to get forward and provide width in attack. Morrison was a less acomplished player than Peltier so did not get forward anything like as much, the result was a better shape defensively but less of an attacking threat......
dannythefox Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 For me I've always wanted to see pansil start he's fast knows the game very well and is good at getting forward. Pelts has found his level he's good a defending but when he's got forward this season we've conceded a lot of goals. He's not fast he's crap at getting forward he holds the ball up to much I just think we should give pansil a run in the team now.
marbelladave Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 I'M COMIN FOR YOU PELTS Good tactics by Watford, but I feel Peltier was 'hung out to dry'. Clearly not in his best form, Peltier was left unsupported by a midfield that, by and large, does not 'do' defence and a center back, Mills, who does not like to come out wide and help out his fullback. This has been going on for some time and Peltier's form and confidence has taken a knock as a result, shame, I think he is a really decent player.......
Callabinho Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 His positioning at times is questionable, how can you blame anyone else for that?
marbelladave Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 His positioning at times is questionable, how can you blame anyone else for that? Because he is asked to get forward and provide an attacking threat and no one covers for him?............
cc_star Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 Since when did Pantsil become the savour, he was slated for his perfomance I can only assume people are bored want a new scapegoat
dannythefox Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 Since when did Pantsil become the savour, he was slated for his perfomance I can only assume people are bored want a new scapegoat I've never slated him. I cant see how the captain of Ghana and proven player at the top level cant get in our side because a league one player is playing every week. But that's only my opinion.

Always out of position.
jonlcfc1990 Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 Really funny but Peltier tweeted last night something along the lines of being gutted but not to "make scapegoats" well he certainly saw you lot coming. Top notch support
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 Since when did Pantsil become the savour, he was slated for his perfomance I can only assume people are bored want a new scapegoat If by scapegoating, you mean other supporters can see his deficincies then you are right. If you mean that people are using the result as a stick to beat him with the I do not see how you can come to that conclusion. Nobody is calling him names. I am sure if he was to watch the games played since Christmas then he will recognise this himself. If he can not then he will never improve as a footballer. Gilbert had the same problem in league 1 but teams in that division could not take advantage. He would have been ripped a new arsehole in this division.
Hirsty The Blue 94 Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 We never played with any width under Sven, with Abe/Gelson/Danns playing on the right so I don't see how the situation has changed. I think he is just out of form and could do with a rest, maybe stick St Ledger right back and bring in big Wes to solidify our soft defence.
Babylon Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 Since when did Pantsil become the savour, he was slated for his perfomance I'm not sure he's a saviour, but if Peltier is off form then Pantsil will get a chance.
