Happy Fox Posted 12 March 2012 Posted 12 March 2012 He is called Heskey......why oh why are people ignoring him I wouldn't mind him here as a bench player but we need someone who scores goals upfront and Rhodes is your man if not Rhodes, then Ched Evans would do well here imo.
hbkkids Posted 12 March 2012 Posted 12 March 2012 He is called Hesky......why oh why are people ignoring him his goal scoring record is a goal every four games, that would be 11 goals in a season an now he ain't even as good as that
hbkkids Posted 12 March 2012 Posted 12 March 2012 Sorry I started a new topic, didn't know there already was one

Spot on Happy.... Both Rhodes and Evans are good shouts. Younger, more hungry strikers... Both can score most types of goals... Tap ins, headers, long range and both would have a point to prove. These are the types of striker I'd have a look at. A risk, yes as neither have played at a higher level.. But there have been many examples of good strikers making the step up..

Rhodes would be my first choice he scored 32 goals in the league already and come the end of the season I can see that figure being 40 goals which is quite phenomenal. Peeps will argue it is only in league one, but I have seen enough to convince me he is the real deal, if we can bring him and it is a big if I would imagine his valuation is £3m-£5m, selling Beckford and Mills would recoup that amount plus our summer transfer kitty getting ( Rhodes, Vardy, Stewart, Mullins, McNaughton, JET) would represent good value for money.
PegguyArphexad Posted 12 March 2012 Posted 12 March 2012 I think the squads needs an overhaul but the starting XI doesn't require too much work. That way we can keep some momentum without excessive change but also add to the depth of the team to get us through the long demanding Championship season... Out: Paintsil Mills Oakley Howard (Coaching staff maybe) Vassell Johnson (End of loan) Weale Logan Tunchev Left with: Schmeichel Peltier Konc Bamba Gally Kingy Dyer SSL Waggy Drinkwater Moussa Wellens Beckford Marshall Danns Morgan Schlupp Kennedy Smith Moore Nugent Taft Hopper Parkes Bolger Add: RB (to challenge for starting spot) CB (squad) GK (squad) Tough tackling midfield player (challenge for starting spot) Winger (Challenge for starting spot) Striker (Challenging for starting spot)
hbkkids Posted 12 March 2012 Posted 12 March 2012 Why get rid of vassel, he is a good player but has not played this season really, you carnt rate him.
jamesmilner Posted 12 March 2012 Posted 12 March 2012 all i wish for next season is this club gets the old man city "big time charlie" attitude to go .we are not as good as we think we are , an absolute fact !!!!! . we sort of missed our objective like man city did when they first had money. i think we are very similar to them as i cant put my finger on our form like man city couldnt theirs .had the players not the results , spent the money no rewards back . hopefully next year things come together as a football club and not a bank for footballers to withdraw from without achievement .
iamafox Posted 12 March 2012 Posted 12 March 2012 I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Greg Halford. Would be better than Paintsil and Peltier as a RB. Can play in other positions as well, so his versatilty would be a huge asset for us. Seeming as though that Pompey are in financial troubles, he could be a real bargain.

K Green 17 Posted 12 March 2012 Posted 12 March 2012 can we please be realistic with our wishlist? - we need cover for Kasper & Pelts - we need at least one winger if not two, i think Stewart is a realistic target as well as mcinuff or kebe, or maybe we could go for a loan target from a bigger club? ie look at Wellingto Silva from Arsenal? - we need a quality forward 20+ goals a season, i think nugent can provide this and maybe beckford could but i think we need to get shot of beckford/howard and sign a new forward leaving schlupp and hopper (and vassell) in reserve, i'd like to see us go for someone who is proven at our level, is kevin doyle or ebanks-blake unrealistic if wolves get relegated? or how about someone like anichebe who is out of the picture at everton. alternatively we could go for a loan signing with one of the Parks (sunderland/arsenal) in mind - finally a new cm is a must, wellens only looks good when someone is doing the leg work for him, and everyone says hes quality with the ball but how many assists does he have this season? we need a beast who is going to scare opposition and who can run with the ball, Karl Henry springs to mind... thoughts?
hbkkids Posted 12 March 2012 Posted 12 March 2012 Say Pearson was sacked, whom would you want for next season, for me Mick mcarthy (think I have spelled it wrong)
Leicester_Loyal Posted 12 March 2012 Posted 12 March 2012 Say Pearson was sacked, whom would you want for next season, for me Mick mcarthy (think I have spelled it wrong) Surely your on the wind up?
Kitchandro Posted 12 March 2012 Posted 12 March 2012 Since most people aren't really being realistic: Mark Davies Liam Rosenior (if he wants to pull his head out of his arse and admit Leicester is a bigger club) Seyi Olofinjana (new striker) and 2 of: Andros Townsend Matt Phillips Adam Hammill Garath McCleary Schmeichel Rosenior St Ledger Bamba Konchesky McCleary/Townsend Davies Drinkwater Phillips/Hammill Nugent Beckford (if arse is miraculously in gear more often)/new striker subs: Morgan, Gallagher, Olofinjana, new striker/Beckford, Schlupp
Kitchandro Posted 12 March 2012 Posted 12 March 2012 Tbh, i'd rather have Marshall in the team over Gallagher, at least Marshall tracks back Ah yes the old 'Gallagher doesn't track back' myth
Kitchandro Posted 12 March 2012 Posted 12 March 2012 Short answer is pace and creativity, those are the two things we badly lack above all others. I don't want another winger who'd rather check back than actually run at defenders.
marbelladave Posted 12 March 2012 Posted 12 March 2012 Firstly and irrefuteably we need a massive injection of team spirit....... It is my view that we will not achieve that until the disruptive elements and 'big time charlies' are moved on, so for me Beckford, Mills, Gallagher, Wellens, Howard all have to go, maybe Danns too unless he commits to earning his money rather than 'living the dream' and just spending it. There is plenty of deadwood around the fringes that needs pruning but if that is done I can see us forming a tight knit squad that actually might play for each other and as a team. If that can be done then we really only need 2 players, a tough tackling central midfield player and a center forward who can lead the line and hold up play, on his own if necessary. Some decent young players as backup would be required to fill the gaps.
marbelladave Posted 12 March 2012 Posted 12 March 2012 Ah yes the old 'Gallagher doesn't track back' myth Indeed....... Gallagher does his fair share of defending for an attacking player, no 'big' tackles admittedly and poor in the air but he doesn't give away free kicks and is effective enough if somewhat understated. The troubles down the right side come from our setup, ie Gallagher moving inside, Peltier overlapping and no defensive mid to seal the gaps, it's a known tactic of NFP but it's really not working at the moment due to the lack of defensive cover. I rather like Gallagher as a player but I do sometimes worry about his attitude.......

Common ground with you on this one Dave and I fully endorse your thoughts that the actual squad is there or there abouts with the inclusion of a couple of new faces and more importantly the removal of some of the names you have mentioned. I am coming around to the idea that RW has his best days behind him but by all accounts Danns in a natural midfield role looks like he could do a job for us. What is for certain now is that the centre of the midfield needs sorting out and preferably before the start of next seasons campaign. If it is a tough tackling midfielder that comes in that does not leave room for both Danns and Drinkwater and for me the jury is still out on DD.
Happy Fox Posted 12 March 2012 Posted 12 March 2012 Hayden Mullins would be ideal for us a no nonsense midfielder, but alas Reading want him f**k off Reading he is ours http://www.getbracknell.co.uk/sport/football/readingfc/s/2109958_reading_fc_keen_on_portsmouth_midfielder_mullins?

It doesn't even say we're linked, that's the trouble with us, especially when Sven was here, we let our play off rivals sign players who would be great here. Jutkiewicz, Townsend, Roberts, Adam Hammill all come to mind, Gregg Wylde or Mervan Celik on a free would be great signings but I bet Leeds or Blackpool or that sort of team will sign them. Sven always wanted big name over priced players, not criticising who he signed but more his transfer policy, and Pearson seems to like that League One/Two player or youngster who he can sign on the cheap, I hope he can be a bit more willing to spend in the summer.

I remain convinced that we have 'issues' in the dressing room that are instrumental in our lack of application and team ethic, I may be pointing the finger in the wrong direction in some cases but I think a fair few players have to go if NFP is going to forge the spirit he wants. Re Danns. I was pleased as punch when he signed, I thought him one of the best midfielders I saw last season. For us, even when playing quite well, he seems somewhat uncommited and all this nonsense off the field doesn't help either. He has the ability, but for me needs more intensity, more focus...... I keep hearing how well Danns and Wellens are playing, how improved Dyer is, yet teams like Bristol, Watford and Brighton are sticking 3 past us and walking off with the points......
