A new era ... 2007/08

Just been looking back on past LCFC seasons and the season we got relegated really was unbelievable.

Remember pre-season, Mandaric had just taken over and the sky really was the limit for us in our "rose-tinted glasses". We had a new manager in Martin Allen, he was an eccentric fella with a range of new and insane ideas but we all instantly fell in love with him for his crazy interviews. I remember him differentiating between his time at MK Dons and his new start at the Walkers Stadium and referring to Dons as "the veg" but this is "THE MEAT". Of course, we loved it and couldn't wait for his new signings to follow. They came in numbers with some cracking reputations:

Jimmy Neilson - a slightly creepy looking goalkeeper that nobody had ever heard of but as he was Danish we all fell for his reputation as the next Peter Schmeichel.

Hossein Kaebi - Oh the excitement! Word quickly spread about this Iranian wonderkid who had marked LUIS FIGO out of the game at the 2006 World Cup. "Youtube him" was the catchphrase when he was mentioned. :chant:

Sergio Hellings - A truly gifted product of the famous Ajax academy. An all round midfielder who should walk all over the Championship.

Carl Cort - The big striker making his comeback. This is definitely the time for him to hit his all time highs. Remember he was once signed by Newcastle for £7million!

DJ Campbell - This is the man we have been searching for. One of Allen's former players and will definitely hit 20 goals if given a regular starting place!

Bruno N'Gotty - Former AC Milan warrior and French international. His experience will really help our "star" defender Gareth McAuley.

James Chambers - An energetic defender with experience in the top flight. Plus he can also play in midfield!!!

Stephen Clemence - A real leader and former captain of promotion winning Birmingham City. Allen quickly installed him as club skipper and he would be the guy to lead us to the promised land.

A hatful of other huge names followed such as Bulgarian international Radi Kishishev, Reading's exciting youth product Jonny Hayes, former memorable loanees Darren Kenton and Shaun Newton.

Not to mention the already fans favourite Iain Hume, exciting prospects James Wesolowski, Alan Sheehan and Richard Stearman added to that the return to form in pre-season of once hated Big Mark De Vries who had vowed to prove he can still be a big player at Leicester.

Sure enough, the season didn't work out.

Allen was sacked early on following a run-in with the chairman, 2 more managers followed. Most of the above named found themselves either on the fringes or out of the door. A few of them didn't even play 1 minute for us and we were relegated on the final game on the season with a midfield held together by HARRY WORLEY.

I appreciate that this season is once that we don't really like to mention but I thought perhaps you may like a little chuckle when you remember how excited we were in the summer of 2007.

I had so much hope that season. Especially when we convincingly beat Watford at home, I actually remember being really gutted when Allen was sacked as well lol

Also, was that the same season that Andy King scored a stunning 35 yarder against Southampton in the cup? I can never remember.

I was so excited I saved up to come and watch us at home to Blackpool. Wow that was disappointing but I still remember THAT shot from mark de vries. Then I went to palace. We came from beind to go 2-1 up in the last few minutes. Then they got the softest free kick ever on the edge of the box. Hit it, took two bounces before falling to Clinton FECKING Morrison for a tap in.

Yet that draw was the only game out of ten that season where I didn't see us lose. What a shambles.

If im honest...I thought Jonny Hayes looked decent...tho he was never given a chance.

I remember him ripping Cardiff to pieces, in a game we drew 0-0 (story of our season)

He's doing brilliant under Terry Butcher at Inverness.

Was that in the cup?

I remember the goal, think it was his first, corker, and it was freezing that day. We lost 2-1 due to a dodgy penalty?

Actually that could have been any game that season lol

Humes penalty vs Sheffield Wednesday :frusty:

On a brighter note, remember Mark De Vries brilliant goal vs Watford?

Nothing remotely funny or anything to chuckle about, the worst season in the history of Leicester City Football Club. Absolutely shameful contributions by Mandaric the managers and the players.

Yes, I am not saying that relegation was funny, or the season. It was an extremely painful season to be a supporter of LCFC for. But during pre-season I was excited. So were lots of people. That is what is funny.

Ruined our proud record of never playing outside the top two divisions.

We recovered quickly enough but it was a disgraceful season.

I still vividly remember standing in Varsity on London Rd, looking at the line up on the big screen and saying to my mate. "What the fvck is Harry Worley doing in the team and why the fvck is he in midfield." I knew we were in trouble from that moment on.

Can't remember where I saw him - reserves or friendly or where - but my guilty secret is that i thought Sergio Hellings looked pretty good too !!! Whatever game I saw him play, he looked a class above. Don't tell anyone I said that, though ! ;)

Just been looking back on past LCFC seasons and the season we got relegated really was unbelievable.

Remember pre-season, Mandaric Thais had just taken over and the sky really was the limit for us in our "rose-tinted glasses". We had a new manager in Martin Allen, Sven, he was an eccentric fella with a range of new and insane ideas but we all instantly fell in love with him for his crazy interviews. I remember him differentiating between his time at MK Dons Man City and his new start at the Walkers Stadium and referring to Dons Man City as "the veg" but this is "THE MEAT". Of course, we loved it and couldn't wait for his new signings to follow. They came in numbers with some cracking reputations:

Jimmy Neilson Kasper Scmeichel - a slightly creepy looking goalkeeper that nobody had ever heard of but as he was Danish we all fell for his reputation as the next Peter Schmeichel.

Hossein Kaebi Lee Peltier- Oh the excitement! Word quickly spread about this Iranian wonderkid who had marked LUIS FIGO A Trialist out of the game at the 2006 World Cup Johnstone's Paint Trophy - North. "Youtube him" was the catchphrase when he was mentioned. :chant:

Sergio Hellings Danny Drinkwater - A truly gifted product of the famous Ajax Man Ure academy. An all round midfielder who should walk all over the Championship.

Carl Cort David Nugent - The big striker making his comeback. This is definitely the time for him to hit his all time highs. Remember he was once signed by Newcastle Portsmouth for £7 million £6million!

DJ Campbell Jermaine Beckford - This is the man we have been searching for. One of Allen's former players and will definitely hit 20 goals if given a regular starting place!

Bruno N'Gotty Sol Bamba - Former AC Milan Hibs warrior and French Ivory Coast international. His experience will really help our "star" defender Gareth McAuley Alex Tunchev.

James Chambers John Pantsil - An energetic defender with experience in the top flight. Plus he can also play in midfield!!!

Stephen Clemence Matt Mills - A real leader and former captain of promotion winning bottling Birmingham City Reading. Allen Sven quickly installed him as club skipper and he would be the guy to lead us to the promised land.

A hatful of other huge names followed such as Bulgarian Swiss international Radi Kishishev Gelson Fernandes, Reading's Man City's exciting youth washed-up-old-has-been product Jonny Hayes Michael Johnson, former memorable loanees Darren Kenton and Shaun Newton Yakubu and Naughton ...... oh no, sorry !.

Not to mention the already fans favourite Iain Hume Darius Vassell, exciting prospects James Wesolowski Jeff Schlupp, Alan Sheehan Tom Kennedy and Richard Stearman Tom Hopper added to that the return to form in pre-season of once hated Big Mark De Vries Steve Howard who had vowed to prove he can still be a big player at Leicester.

RICHIE WELLENS !!!!!! (Soz RW - I love you really).

Nicely done

Thanks ! I'm never one to pass up the opportunity to steal all the hard work that someone else has done !!! To be honest, you could probably do that for almost any of the last ten seasons, sadly !!!
