_Fatboyslow_ Posted 22 March 2012 Posted 22 March 2012 Here we go again, it's same old same old, for what ever reason, views differ, the Midfield is a disaster and leaves the defence exposed which the implodes on it's self. All season long we have been coceding to crosses and despite being infront in games or drawing level we have never shut a game down. The set up of the team is not working and I sometimes wonder if we have anyone who knows how to play ? Yes we have good players to a dgree but how many if any have a footballing brain? I sometimes think we could make Messi look bad. On top of that I belive the opistion has worked us out and know how to exploit our system and we don't have a plan b, I am not sure if we have a plan sometimes so we just get sucked in and then pay the price. It is not a case of fixing something that is wrong, it did not work in the first place. Well I feel better for that, you may not agree with me but I am right :-)
Steven Posted 22 March 2012 Posted 22 March 2012 We are conceding goals at an alarming rate. Yet I honestly believe our squad, (squad, not 'defenders', as everybody is responsible for defending), are better man-for-man than most squads in this league. I don't think there is a great difference player for player within our squad in terms of effectiveness. Each player offers something different and something good. If you buy that, (big 'if' for some of you, I know), then what's left to explain the problem ? Our manager and coaches are certainly on a par with anything else we face each week or anyone else that would have taken on the job. We can change manager and coaches every three weeks if we want, but they are all going to do more or less the same things in training, spot more or less the same areas to improve, use more or less the same information / technology / science etc etc etc. So what's left ? NP is our manager and has to have a full season next year if we are to have any chance of building something. However, what I find troubling is the seeming inflexibility. For me, what has made me frown has been the resistance to changing shape. We seem to be too easy to play through. We seem to be strongest (don't laugh) at centre-half and centre-mid. Yet we won't try a system that utilises that. For reasons I don't know, he did this for 45 at Palace. How it went is almost irrelevant in such a short time-frame. But I just look at our squad and think why aren't we trying that now ? None of our strikers are good enough to play up front in isolation. We've generally looked ineffective when that has happened. Put all of this together and I just keep thinking 3-5-2 / 5-3-2 ... whichever way you want to call it. Again, for me, we are weakest presently out wide in midfield with options of Gally, Lloydy and young Marshall. Yet we employ a system where two of those players usually have to play ! Just to dovetail my two points together, I've been fortunate enough to work with International sportsmen. The one thing they will tell you is that at elite level, there is virtually no difference in coaching, gene pool, nutrition etc. The BIGGEST difference in the attitude and belief of those players as they walk on the pitch. There is a bit of me that just wonders if our guys actually have faith in the system we employ ? I have no idea if that is true, but I know that my heart sinks 1 hour before kick-off when I see the same faces in the same positions on the team-sheet. As somebody once said ... the definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing and expect it to deliver different results. Off to take some happy tablets now.
accessory Posted 22 March 2012 Posted 22 March 2012 Spot on. We need someone along the lines of a Lee Cattermole, a Joey Barton, a Nigel de Jong, a Cheik Tiote. We're too nice in the middle for my liking. We need the sort of player who will get booked most games, but will protect the back four and give us 150% effort each game. ...and be vilified on here as a "hothead" who collects too many suspensions and disrupts the rhythm of the side. The reason we chuck so many leads and points away is because we have a chronic inability to retain possession. This is not entirely unrelated to our midfield general's psychotic obsession with Hollywood passes which fail nine times out of ten, but set the pattern for the rest of the team.
Captain... Posted 22 March 2012 Posted 22 March 2012 The problem is consistency, and indisicpline, every time we get a settled back 4 in we start playing well, Mills and Bamba, MIlls and SSL, SSL and Morgan have all shown they are more than capabale defenders at this level and can form partnerships with each other, but something always comes along to disrupt things. Mills' red card at Brum, Mills' Red Card at Hull, Bamba going to AFCON, Konchesky's Red Card at Cov. We are just so fragile in terms of conifdence that every time this happens and we have to adjust we look weak at the back, this doesn't explain everything such as why we capitulated against Watford, but these things happen. The same could be said for the midfield, we still don't know what our best team is and when we start looking like getting something together Danns gets sent off, Gallagher gets injured, I can only think of 3 players that everyone agrees should start every game, Konchesky, Nugent and Kasper (I would add Dyer to that but some on here wouldn't) in that sense nothing has changed since NP took over, and until it does we will never get that consistency within the team.

Beckford as well

Happy Fox Posted 22 March 2012 Posted 22 March 2012 http://www.foxestalk...80347-beckford/ For the record I'm in your camp at the moment. I see what you did their, Col's hatred was not vindicated if you play the ball on the floor Beckford will get you goals required for promotion, he and Nugent are our best strike force we have had in a long time.
Captain... Posted 22 March 2012 Posted 22 March 2012 Beckford as well Personally, I would say Beckford, but you get a lot on here who don't like him. Did you hear Young laying into him constantly in the first half, their first goal was all his fault if you believe Young. There are only 3 players in the squad which everybody on here agrees should start every game.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 22 March 2012 Posted 22 March 2012 How people can say Morgan is a misake or is suddenly shite ios crazy. He was part of a Forest playoff team twice which had good defensive records. We just dint work as a team. I would like to see Morgan back in with Mills although Mills is a twat, two no nonsense defenders might be what we need at the moment. Heard Peltier was poor last night again too, a new RB is needed

Youngy talking bollocks in this instance, I just find it really odd how no one rates Beckford what more can he do he scores goals has improved his work ethic, the criticism he is getting is unwarranted imo. For me he is a definite starter, along with Nugent, Konchesky and Kasper oh and look they are all Sven's signing's.
Jace Posted 22 March 2012 Posted 22 March 2012 Typical Leicester, how do we go from attacking poorly but defending well under Sven to attacking well but defending appallingly under Pearson? This should be the area we should be excelling in right now. Our defenders are good enough to be promoted especially Mills Reading would take him back for free and I bet he would get games
seenitall Posted 22 March 2012 Posted 22 March 2012 Bet we'd be in the play offs if we,d kept Sven. The gamble hasn't paid off

Sorry not hate, but dislike, we all know your opinion on Beckford and it seems you have finally bitten the bullet and accepted that Beckford is an asset for us and can score goals, the Nugent and Beckford partnership is blossoming and long may it continue. Now to sort our the dodgy midfield.
marbelladave Posted 22 March 2012 Posted 22 March 2012 Here we go again, the same old, same old. Most of our problems under NFP (both times) derive from the fact that he likes to play 4-4-2 with 2 men up and 2 men wide, the footballing equivalent of charging tanks on horseback. You really need some exceptional players to be able to do that, starting with the central midfield pairing, you also need wide men who get up and down and really contribute in midfield and ideally a striker who can drop off the frontman to link up play and provide a creative spark. In case you havn't noticed we don't have any of that!

You have hit the nail on the head, it isn't necessarily a defensive problem more so the central midfield where the problems are manyfold, we have individuals but cohesively as a unit thy are poor, would keep Danns, Drinkwater and King. Wellens for me can go as well as Dyer. Bring in a defensive midfielder, two wingers and job done.

Now to sort our the dodgy midfield. It's never been 'hate'.. So shut yet fookin gob! Without a doubt Becks is looking like a sharp shooter at present. Good on him... That's what we all wanted him to do and he's doing it. But, I want him to keep the ball better and not give away silly passes at crucial times of the game. Because he does do this.. And he did it again last night. Same can be said for many of the squad this season to be honest. I've never hated any City players.. Although Wise was possibly an exception.
