World Snooker Championship 2012

Fully deserved, Ali should of won more frames the first four frames of the morning session he should of won 3-1, but lost all four.

Ronnie is a genius and seems in much better mental state, as you could tell when Hazel Irvine interviewed him at the end.

Another Championship over for another year :(

Perhaps one of the most entertaining players, but the greatest?

For me, yes. Okay so he hasn't won as many World Championships as Hendry but really he has thrown a few away purely from being in a bad place mentally. Yes this is a weakness you could argue, and I guess it is.

If the definition of the greatest is by number of tournaments won then no, he is not. But, if it is down to pure natural talent then Ronnie stands head and shoulders above the rest.. Some of the shots he plays and the breaks he makes (right or left handed) are just outrageous.

I've been watching snooker for about 30 years and have loved and appreciated similar players such as Jimmy White and Alex Higgins and also of course different but still, brilliant players such as Davis and Hendry but for me, Ronnie is the greatest player I have ever seen play the game.

Yeah I'd agree with this, even when his head was all over the place he was capable of blowing players away at times. Scary thing is as good as he was this WC I have seen him play better, I remember one tournament about 6 years ago he was unplayable, Higgins resorted to sitting in his chair during the last frame of the final and putting his knapkin on his cue to symbolize a white flag.

Seems a shame that now he has finally delt with the mental side of things he looks ready to pack up.

I dunno. His interview after winning last night seemed to suggest he wanted to play on. :fc:

There are tensions between O'Sullivan and Barry Hearn.

Hearn wants to stage world-ranking tournaments around the world. O'Sullivan, who has two young children, wants to spend more time with his family.

Apparently, O'Sullivan also said that the World Championship will eventually move to China. That sounds plausible, with the money that'll be on offer there.

Yeah I think the way things are going then the World Championships could well move to China eventually, or be showcased around the world. It's common knowledge that Ronnie hates the travelling and plays in the bare minimum of tournament and this is bound to be a factor in planning his retirement.

He has said however that he would consider moving to China as he loves it there, so maybe if the World Championship ended up over there then this would suit him.

At the end of the day Hearn will take snooker to where the interest (and money) is and that is becoming increasingly towards China unfortunately. Snooker on terrestrial T.V will become a thing of the past the way things are going I feel. :(

I doubt Hearn will move it from the Crucible and I'll doubt he'll snub the BBC, unless Sheffield Council or the BBC decide they no longer want the WC it wont happen. He is a promoter who will look to expand the sport but judging by the kind of bloke he is I doubt it'll be at the expense of the historic routes of the sports biggest tournament.

I think the decision to stop will come in the next 12 months if Ronnie cannot maintain his place in the top 16 without being pushed to play in more tournaments than he wants to.

I hope you're right but the bulk of the investment in snooker (mainly prize money) is coming from China and I may be being cynical but if they offer enough money then will they get their way?

I'd like to think that, like you say, Hearn will respect the roots of snooker and the wishes of the many fans of the game in this country and not 'sell out'.

Steve Davis is the greatest of all time.

My sister knocked Ronnie back for a date when he was younger attending Qualifiers at Norbreck Castle Blackpool. I did get some free tickets though. True story. :P
