Great first day not seen any better since i've watched Snooker.

Gilbert making five 50+ breaks

Hendry 147

Robertson three century breaks on the spin

Cao Yupeng making his debut and leading

A final frame decider to finish off

Incredible

Was a great first day, the people there were so lucky.

Thats what I love about Snooker, the roar the crowd makes when these moments happen no matter who you prefer and the fact your oponent celbrates it with you and the other games stops to support you in and also celebrate. Truly magical

Couldn't put it better, it was truly magical.

Im off to Sheffield in the morning to watch Murphy v Jones, with Allen v Cao to a finish on the other table, doubt it will match today's standard, but I would be happy if it nearly did.

Luca Brecel also in action tomorrow, wonder how he will fare with a coming back to form Maguire.

Allen's out. He's in Selby's quarter of the draw

Allen's throwing accusations of cheating against the opponent he faced (can't remember his name).

He's a sore loser. Not sure how you could cheat?!

Didn't so much claim he cheated, just was dishonest about an illegal push shot by failing to declare it to the ref.

I saw the incident and it did seem that Yupeng did foul and the referee should have spotted it, and of course the player himself could and maybe should have admitted to it.

However, it seems a bit desperate for Allen to bring that up at the end of the match. He lost, and if a foul had have been called he most likely still would have lost the match, he wasn't good enough on the day.

I like Allen, he's definitely got something about him but he seems to attract controversy and it's doing little to help him or his game.

Something to do with a push shot.

I may have misinterpreted what he said in the short clip on BBC of his press conference. He said 'there's been a few instances in the past that fouls and blatant cheating really going on, needs to be corrected, cos he's a good enough player and he doesn't need to do that'.

I don't like Allen at all. I don't mind controversy in sport, but he overdoes it. And he's pretty rude too. He's holding his iPhone in the press conference. He seems quite disrespectful to the sport he plays. Not the first time he's been around controversy, either.

Allen is a great player. Potty mouth though!

True. But i'd rather see players like him and O'Sullivan than the majority of the other dullards.

Mark Allen is facing a disciplinary charge after snooker's governing body started proceedings against him for his comments following his first-round defeat at the World Championship.

Allen claimed that his Chinese opponent Cao Yupeng failed to declare an illegal push shot during his surprise 10-6 win over the Northern Irishman.

The WPBSA said Allen would be given 14 days to respond to the charge.

Allen was fined £1,000 for comments about the World Open venue in China.

At his post-match press conference on Sunday, Allen also made wider allegations that Chinese players on the circuit had been involved in "fouls and blatant cheating".

WPBSA chairman Jason Ferguson said that the governing body took "very seriously comments made which could be perceived to be directed at a particular nation".

World Snooker chairman Barry Hearn also made clear his displeasure at Allen's remarks.

To effectively accuse your opponent of cheating is looked on as bringing the game into disrepute," said Hearn.

"Time and time again Mark seems unable to control himself in his public statements. Sometimes I am speechless."

In response to Allen's accusation of dishonesty on the part of Cao, Hearn added: "Players have rules written in their contracts and they are not allowed to say certain things.

"If they do, they are in breach of tournament regulations and will come under a disciplinary process."

Hearn also welcomed the news that Allen has closed his Twitter account as it was also revealed that the Northern Irishman had been fined £1,000 for criticisms of the tournament location at the recent World Open in China.

"People must realise Twitter is out there in the public domain so you have to be careful what you say.

"Whether there has been a push shot or not is pretty much academic - it's the slant of the comments that Mark made afterwards.

"He had the chance to say to the referee that he believed he had made a mistake, but did not take that opportunity."

Allen, 26, could face a fine, suspension or expulsion if found guilty of bringing the sport into disrepute.

The Antrim player, who admits he was "completely outplayed" by the world number 81, claimed Cao failed to declare an illegal push shot when leading 5-4.

No foul was given and the 26-year-old Northern Irishman eventually lost 10-6.

"I'm disgusted. The state of snooker is very sad if it has to be down to that, but it's not the first time," said Allen after the game.

It is not the first time that Allen has caused controversy on the circuit.

In March, he took to his Twitter account to criticise conditions at China's Haikou World Open as "horrendous".

"Dead cat found this morning," he tweeted. "Any wonder this place stinks. Must be dead cats all round the town."

He went on to win the event and later stood by his comments, insisting: "It would be nicer to play tournaments in the UK, but I have to go where the money is."

In December, he called on World Snooker chairman Hearn to resignafter changes were made to the format of major tournaments.

"I've got no doubt he'll tweak the World Championship," Allen said at the time. "The whole tradition of the game is going to pot."

Allen was fined for the Hearn outburst before receiving another financial penalty for his comments at the World Open.

Another seed gone, Stephen Lee's out. Open championship this year

Stephen Lee was never in any danger of winning the tournament to be fair. Unless it was for pie eating.

Some very surprising scorelines so far.

Lee has been in amazing form though over 4-5-6 frame matches, but over best of 19 it's a different story.

Higginson is underrated and is a quality player, so not surprised by that upset.

Selby not making life easy as usual :glare:

I'm hoping Selby pulls off a comeback tonight, because there's a possibility I could be watching Cao Yupeng vs Barry Hawkins next week as Ding lost today :(

I hate Ding anyway :-/

He probably will he always does, would be nice if he could just hammer someone for at the worlds for a change once!

Well looks like my Selby bet is fucked - Selby has been very poor this season I think, despite somehow being number 1, He's good i'm not saying he's not and I only watch the big tournaments but can't say i've seen anything from Selby that warrants him number 1 status.

Hoping Trump wins it now as I also had a bet on Trump.

Selby is having a mare at the moment but his season has been pretty decent, exceptional at times. I think he had an injury (shoulder or something) so it wasn't ideal preparation, still wouldn't put it past him to win this one
