Injury update, Wellens, King etc.

Leicester City are waiting for the results of a scan to discover the extent of captain Richie Wellens' knee injury.

The City captain had to be substituted after 20 minutes of Monday's defeat to West Ham at the King Power Stadium, and manager Nigel Pearson said it may not be good news.

Midfielder Andy King also had to come off at half-time with what is suspected to be a reoccurrence of the heel injury which had kept him sidelined for over two months before he returned to action at the end of last month.

With Neil Danns also ruled out after undergoing groin surgery, City boss Pearson will be short of midfield options ahead of this Saturday's final game of the season at Leeds United.

"Richie will have a scan and it doesn't look promising at the moment," said Pearson.

"Likewise, with Andy King, who came off at half-time with a foot injury which may be similar to his original injury. Hopefully it won't be as bad.

"They're things we could do without at this stage of the season with our numbers in midfield being short."

Centre-back Sol Bamba was pushed into midfield against West Ham.

"Sol did okay in there again but we didn't have the creativity we would have liked," said Pearson.

"Danny Drinkwater did well again but to have to make two changes so early in the game limited our options in terms of making positive substitutions late on to try to get something out of the game."

Martyn Waghorn, however, returned after six months out of action with a hamstring injury, and went on as a second-half substitute.

Fellow striker Darius Vassell also returned to the bench after a similarly lengthy spell out with a knee injury, and Pearson said he had hoped to bring the former England international on as well, but the injuries to Wellens and King denied him the opportunity.

"It is good to get Martyn back on the field," said Pearson.

"I would have liked to have got Vassell on as well but, because of the injuries in the first half, that limited our options.

"We have another game to go and the likes of Waghorn and Vassell will be looking at it as an opportunity to play some part."

King and wellens have been injury prone for a while now, both a pain in the arse...

that's uncomfortable but it doesn't sound very serious

I can't remember the last time that Wellens missed more than 3/4 matches, and correct me if i'm wrong, but i don't think King has been out injured ever before has he? Wouldn't say either of them have been a pain in the arse?! Tunchev, is injury prone. Not Kingy and Wellens.

No, Tunchev is not "injury prone". He had 1 extremely serious injury and had multiple setbacks.

And has spent the last 2 or 3 seasons coming back, and having set backs, which means he is more susceptible to a reoccurrence of a long standing injury....meaning, he is prone to injury. Don't get me wrong, i really like Tunchev, i was using him as an example to show that Wellens and King are hardly injury prone. They're being used as scapegoats again.

All he needs to do on Saturday is move Ben Marshall into the centre and play Vassel on the right. Problem sorted.

From what Pearson was implying, Wellens could have damaged ligaments and be out for months.

Looks like we'll have to seek a new captain and playmaker.

Sounds like sarcasm to me!!

Our player gets a potentially serious knee injury and folks still take the p*ss.

To be fair King has had very few spells out injured since he broke in to the first team in 08/09 he played 45 league games, 09/10, 43 league games, 10/11, 45 league games and this year he's managed 23 league games.

Hardy a sicknote, one injury keeping out for 2 months doesn't mean hes injury prone!

stringer tweet.. wellens out till september /october partial tear of the cruciate..

I'm not Wellens biggest fan, but that's not great new. Leave us with only 3 fit CM, funny didn't we start the season with about 8!

So it looks like HE won't be sold this summer. That's one less on the 'Fire Sale' list - just 10 more to go !

There will now be a minority of Leics fans probably having a party over this.... Well at least you got what you wanted, no Wellens for the start of next season.... Shame on you!

Not sarcasm at all - just a statement of fact.

This manager clearly saw Wellens as a key part of his plans. Now he will have to look for a replacement, at least for the first few months of the season.
