Amin Posted 7 June 2012 Posted 7 June 2012 http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18338838 I wonder if the refs would dare to book a player if this was to happen?
foxfanazer Posted 7 June 2012 Posted 7 June 2012 FIFA are incredible! How they dare come out with the things they do I'll never know?
Libertine Dream Posted 7 June 2012 Posted 7 June 2012 Platini can fvck off. Lets penalise somebody because theyve been abused, such a logical step.
foxfanazer Posted 7 June 2012 Posted 7 June 2012 This is a massive opportunity for the footballing world to show solidarity on kicking out racism from the game. In my opinion if a player is being racially abused all 22 players should walk off, gonna book them all FIFA?
AyewJoking Posted 7 June 2012 Posted 7 June 2012 Dont the racists win if a player leaves the field? Balotelli is ripping your defence to shreds so you call him a monkey and he goes off. Sadly, rascism will never go away and fifa know this.
stripeyfox Posted 7 June 2012 Posted 7 June 2012 Actually Platini is probably right. You cannot have players dictating what happens. The referee has the power to abandon the match for a variety of reasons. Whilst I admire Balotelli's principles his job is to play football and he can send a much more powerful message by scoring the winner against the fans who are abusing him. If you allowed it to happen you'd end up with mass walk offs by teams (especially if they were losing) to try and achieve an abandonment.

If you're not willing to put up with racist abuse when it's pretty likely to happen then you shouldn't be going. If racism is such a huge problem over there we'd have been right to boycott it. But you have to be professional. You can't let your team down because some words have offended you. Either get on with it and say you're not going to let a group of small-minded thugs affect you, or don't play. Balotelli is unlikely to be picked after saying that anyway. People shouldn't have to put up with racist abuse, but they shouldn't willingly put themselves into a situation where they are likely to recieve it if it's going to cause problems for their own team.
Corky Posted 7 June 2012 Posted 7 June 2012 Yeah, let's book players who refuse to soak up personal abuse about something they have no control over. Let's avoid the real issue- turn it around and penalise the players. If players want to walk off then they should be allowed without fear of petty little rules coming in.
stripeyfox Posted 7 June 2012 Posted 7 June 2012 If someone racially abused me at work, then walking out the door and going home is not the way to deal with it. I would have to trust that my employer has the necessary processes in place to deal with the person concerned. We should see how UEFA deal with any problems that do crop up which the local authorities are not able to deal with at the time. Whatever Balotelli, or anyone else's principles, you can pretty much bet he wouldn't walk off if they were winning.. No one should have to put up with this kind of abuse and it shows how far we've come since the bad days that we are all appalled by it. It is not so long ago that monkey chants were reguarly heard in football grounds in this country.

ScouseFox Posted 7 June 2012 Posted 7 June 2012 Like Balotelli gives a shit. If he was being racially abused and he wanted to leave the field, he'd leave the field. Not a chance in hell that the threat of a yellow card would stop him half way to the touchline. What a pointless story.
