Corky Posted 4 July 2012 Posted 4 July 2012 Looks like our hopes of a 5-0 series win, and therefore topping the ODI rankings, are disappearing. Unlikely that any play will happen.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 5 July 2012 Posted 5 July 2012 Oh right, we're always told on Sky by the commentators that he does well against other teams yet we never see what he's really about. Might bowl well once in ever 10 innings but he is too erratic, i believe they only persisted with him for so long as he was handy with the bat. Now we have some good young bowlers and a bit of depth there should be no reason for him to ever play again.
marko Posted 5 July 2012 Author Posted 5 July 2012 I'm in the lower tier there, what a day that was I'd love to have been there. Didn't good ol' Mitch manage a first-baller in this match?
Guest MattP Posted 6 July 2012 Posted 6 July 2012 I'd love to have been there. Didn't good ol' Mitch manage a first-baller in this match? Best wicket I have ever seen live, walked out to 20,000 taking the piss out of him and got his stumps destroyed first ball. Doesn't get much better.

Corky Posted 7 July 2012 Posted 7 July 2012 Australia finished on 200-9, let them get away from 96-6.
Corky Posted 7 July 2012 Posted 7 July 2012 Absolute stroll, 8 wicket win. Another home ODI series victory.
purpleronnie Posted 7 July 2012 Posted 7 July 2012 Pretty boring game, but a boring win will do. 3-0...a shame the last one was rained off ending the possible 5-0.
marko Posted 7 July 2012 Author Posted 7 July 2012 You'd think all this Aussie bashing would get boring, but it really, really doesn't!!!
Super_horns Posted 7 July 2012 Posted 7 July 2012 All too easy...we have so much confidence at the moment.
Knightonian Posted 9 July 2012 Posted 9 July 2012 You'd think all this Aussie bashing would get boring, but it really, really doesn't!!! I was reading in the paper today about when the Aussies were in their prime their media was bragging we should play less against them and play 4 day tests because they don't need 5 day tests to beat us. I'd forgotten about that until today. So yes I am certainly enjoying this.

Knightonian Posted 9 July 2012 Posted 9 July 2012 ???? To be honest Roo, I just read this in the paper today and I may be confusing Glenn Mcgrath's predictions of a 5-0 white wash in 2005 (or at least the paper has) while subtlely avoiding the truth. The Aussie media may have never said this and I apologise if they didn't. However, the truth is in their prime the Aussies were very arrogant about beating us and now that we are showing them how to play - I'm enjoying every moment of it.

No dramas, i would be enjoying it too if i was you. The media over here have not been complimentary of the Aussie Cricket team for about 5 years now. Whilst we have shown some sign of improvement in test cricket most people know we aren't that good and aren't predicting too much.
Captain... Posted 10 July 2012 Posted 10 July 2012 Why does the BBC Sport website never show any information about a cricket match when the start is delayed by rain, I've been checking since 1 for a bit of team news, or a weather watch, and nothing. I am tempted to switch to Sky text coverage.

Guest MattP Posted 10 July 2012 Posted 10 July 2012 Just far too easy again, next summer could be a massacre. It's like 15 years ago but the roles reversed, they now have players starting who wouldn't get in our second team. Feel sorry for Clarke tbh, he deserves better than what he has to work with.
Corky Posted 10 July 2012 Posted 10 July 2012 They showed the ODI caps each player had before the game and Clarke was way ahead of the next player (although Lee and Watson would've played if fit, so it's slightly misleading), but they've got an inexperienced team in the main playing an England side in top form in pretty drab conditions. Australia have a lot of work to do, but it's good to see them struggling (as we suffered for two decades!)

The current side we have is far better suited to Test Cricket, but saying that the batting line up does seem weak and the bowlers far too injury prone. The line up for tests will be far different from the current one day side.

Warner Cowan Ponting Clarke Hussey Haddin Siddle Pattinson Hilfy Lyon I've missed a player there, The middle order batting looks ok still but I think we'll have both openers gone cheaply with a swinging ball. You need a paceman and a quality spinner badly, can;t see those taking 20 wickets.

Warner Cowan ( I think his first few tests this summer will be the key if he plays ashes, he is a good partner to Warner very dour and knuckles down well) Ponting (Hope he retires or gets pushed before then getting on a bit and averages about 30 in the last 24 months) Clarke Hussey (Of the Mick variety) Watson Wade (Replaced Haddin in our last test series, it's his spot to lose) Siddle Patto Lyon (Does his job will be better in 12 months time with now a few tests under his belt) Take your pick Cummings and Harris (Both injury prone) Hilfenhaus, Starc and Copeland (Copeland is unlikely tho as only bowls at 125kms) It's hard to pick as Micky Arthur already has a few favourites and players he has promoted to t20 and odi's which has been eye opening. Whilst there is big question marks over all players there bar Watson and Clarke. I think our batting is the biggest concern. I think the English Pitchers will suit our bowlers, Siddle was our most improved player last year and is the work horse of the bowlers, bowls more to a plan now and is a lot fuller. Patto and Cummins are young quicks both pacy and pitch it up. Lyons job wont be to take wickets, it will be to keep the batsmen honest and hold down an end. I think he is our most promising spinner since Warne and Magill........he is about the 20th we've tried too. Possibles for the Squad. Payne (Back up keeper), Christian (back up all rounder) George Bailey, Peter Forrest and Usman Khawaja or dark horse Tom Cooper as back up bats. 2nd spinner Holland or Beer can't see Hauritz been given another shot. Also Brett Lee retired today from all forms of International cricket. Devestating Bowler on his day great career binga.
Guest MattP Posted 17 July 2012 Posted 17 July 2012 Forgot to reply to this, course I missed Watson! I'm the other way in the way I look at the team, the batting in that line up still looks fairly strong, the middle order is still capable of putting up big runs, think your bowling looks a massive problem though, can't see how you are going to take 20 wickets on a regular basis with that attack. Lyon's job will have to be more than to hold down an end as the pitches over here and starting to spin more and more and Old Trafford and Edgbaston are being used next year where it turns big in the later days. Brett Lee - a geniune legend of the sport, great sportsman and will be sadly missed.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 17 July 2012 Posted 17 July 2012 The issue is with the batting is it is horribly inconsistent, whilst on paper they look capable we always seem to collapse. Micky Arthur seems to be turning it around and has already made some tough decisions dropping Johnson, Hadden and Ponting (from the ODI’s) but he needs to persist with some of the young players coming in and not bring back the likes of Johnson.
